It's a nice place with nice drinks and a friendly staff. But... the food was pretty average for the price. I had the halibut supreme. It was mediocre. The sides, rice pilaf and sauteed vegetables, were cold and the veggies severely overcooked. The amount of paprika as a garnish was absurd. However, the view is amazing! All in all, it was a decent experience, just not the best food. Especially for the cost. I'd love to try them again, just to go to the place. It's really nice..

I love Settlers Bay Lodge! The only thing I would change is the portion size of the side dishes. I typically get take-out and there is usually half a cup of mashed potatoes and half a cup of veggies. It looks odd in the big take-out container! For the price of the entree, I expect more!

This is just a review of my experience at the bar. We just had a beer and a glass of wine. I understand the views are really good, but we were here in the dark of winter and couldn't see anything. Very busy, so it must have a following.

Don't waste your time! Waited at an empty hostess station for 5 minutes before cooked yelled to back about us waiting. Waited 20 minutes at our table and nobody acknowledged us, so we left. The deck has a great view. You would think that at a place that has $20-30 plates you would at least get some service! Well, after reading all the reviews on here, at least we were saved from disappointing food and rude servers. We came to Locals instead! And got service with a smile right away!

I am giving this restaurant 1 star because the flavor of the steak was good, but sadly that is the only thing I can rave about. This was the second time coming here and was hoping to it had improved. It started when I arrived and the hostess couldn't understand the name I was saying insisting that it was under a whole list of other names. It took someone in the group coming up and getting me. We all ordered a drink, and the server was pushing the 1/2 bottle of white wine, so one of the ladies in the group ordered it. Once tasting the wine we found that it was horrendous, telling the server she wanted something else. He got another drink and told her that he would see about getting the bad bottle of wine taken off. He came back 5 minutes later telling us that he couldn't take it off, and we asked for the manager (who never showed up). Magically once they knew, we were not paying for it was ok for him to take it off. At that point we ordered appetizers; I had the tempura asparagus. The others at the table ordered the dates and the spring rolls. So disappointed in the asparagus, the number one thing they did wrong was leave the woody stems on and were undercooked. Also, very bland tasting and poorly done. We ordered our entree and took 45 minutes to come. When our food came, two of us ordered steak, and the other ordered the pork cutlet. I ordered my steak rare and came medium rare on the edge of medium. The mashed potatoes were like wallpaper paste and had a sweet flavor. The veggies were overcooked and mushy. The place has an amazing view, but you could not pay me to eat another meal at this place. I tried hard to like this place; it is not worth the money.

Sony and Hans are the most talented and friendly business owners in AK. Since they bought Settlers Bay Lodge in 2008 it has gotten better and better with fine dining and an amazing entree selection crafted and overseen by Sony. Their staff has been there for years because they love their jobs and it shows.

The food was amazing and so was the view! I got the salmon and it was to die for! I would give this place a five star rating of it wasn't for our terrible server. She was rude and very dry and abrupt. Just one example.... My husband asked if they had ginger ale... She rudely replied NO and walked away. But we didn't let her poor service and rude demeanor ruin our meal. It was Good!

A seat on the deck in beautiful Alaska sunshine - excellent service, good wine menu, fresh Red Salmon expertly prepared. Best meal I have ever had in the state.

This may have been the highlight of my trip to Alaska. After 7 days of bland cruise ship food, the tour made a stop in Wasilla on our way up the road. We didn't get to order off of the menu, but instead had a private room set aside with build-your-own sandwich items, salad, pasta salad, potato salad, and cookies. Everything was incredible. The potato salad was the best I've ever had, the cookies were incredible (I think some people stole some on their way out), and I could tell the salad dressing was homemade because I could taste the buttermilk. How many places take the time these days to make everything from scratch? They should, because this is the result you get. Absolutely amazing, unforgettable food. I think the real menu is a bit fancier; they should probably think about serving this stuff on a regular basis as well!

A bit of a disappointment. Steak ordered rare came out very unevenly cooked- ranged from medium rare to very well done. Seafood was prepared well. Onion soup and artichoke seafood appetizer were good. Wow factor nonexistent. Garlic mashed potatoes were flavorless, and appeared to be reheated from yesterday. Last visit to this place. View is nice. Service was indifferent at best.

This place has a nice atmosphere to visit with friends or go out for nice date with your significant other. Lobster was over cooked! Steak has been good. Beers & cocktail specials are always fun to try! We have tried a Panty Peeler beer & Fireball shots!

This place is one of the better options for atmosphere in wasilla. You could actually get dressed up to go out and eat here. The food is good, nothing I have had here has ever given me that wow factor I hope for when going to a restaurant. It's a bit pricey as well. As far as eating out options in wasilla Alaska goes (kinda slim Pickens here) it is a good choice for *ahem* finer dining. Oh and don't go here for valentines dinner it's so busy that there's no possible way to get good service.

Tonight was our second time eating here. The first time was disappointing. My wife's meal was ok but I had the blackened cod and I stopped counting bones after 6. We got nothing but excuses from the staff. We decided a long time ago to always give a place 2 chances. The 2nd chance was tonight and it was worse than the first time. My meal was loosely considered OK but my wife's filet mignon was so over cooked that it was literally charcoal. You could crumble it in-between your fingers. Inedible unless your a caveman. The red potatoes also were burnt. And the vegies looked like they took them off a used plate of left-overs. I will not eat there again and will tell everyone that asks just how bad the food a staff are.

Amazingly enough they lost our reservations too (see the other review). They then proceeded to put us next to the door when it's -8 out! Not sure about the food yet but this will be my last time here.

We decided to go to Settler's Bay tonight for dinner on the deck, and despite the somewhat slow service, weren't disappointed. The food was fantastic, though some of the portions were a bit small for the price tag on the plate. I had a grilled ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables, and though the steak was a good 12 oz. and I had more carrots and green beans than I knew what to do with, I felt they skimped just a bit on the serving of mashed potatoes. For dessert, I had the lemon meringue cake. It was good, if different, but for $6, I would have expected more than the tiny slice of cake that they brought out to me. The French onion soup I had before my entree was AMAZING, and I seriously considered having another bowl (or two!) at the expense of sacrificing my appetite for dessert after dinner. Thinking on it, I wish I'd had more soup!

My husband and I went for a Valentine's Day special. They lost our reservations and just expected us to sit in a tiny corner table without a view of the mountains. After 15 minutes and dealing with several employees we were sat at a better location. The food service took a long time, the entrees came out at the same time as our salads and the server messed up on our bill. The food was just ok-could've made it better at home and considering the price ($110 for two ppl) it wasn't worth it.

Checked this place out last evening with my spouse and colleague. Was a nice evening for the end of the day. The waitress was fun and did her best to accommodate us. Was disappointed by being out of clams, which was on the special menu sheet. The entrees were reasonably priced for the locale and portions. Had the blackened rockfish in lieu of the halibut (out of supply) which I was wanting to have. It was fine but have had better blackened fish. But was acceptable flavor. Nice wine selection and also a good draft beer as well. Will be back next time on the area.

I simply can't understand why any restaurant that wants to promote themselves as a fine dining establishment has to blare rock music out across the dining room and patio... Providing music suitable to fine dining is truly a lost art.... We did enjoy the steamed clams, but were very disappointed when the server didn't even know where they came from... probably from Taiwan based on the availability of decent seafood in Wasilla and Palmer.. I'd rather eat at home than go here again.

SERIOUSLY GOOD FOOD!!!! Ok so its a little more pricey than most but the quality and freshness of the food, the service and the portion sizes are outstanding! We frequent this place at least once a month and go for special occasions! The views are stunning (on a clear day anyway!!!!) LOVE this place.... highly recommend the Surf and Turf and the Cajun Peel and eat shrimp are amazing!!!!!!

Excellent food, service, and view. Some of my favorites here (I'm a regular) are the chateaubriand for two, rack of lamb, Ceasar's Salad (homemade dressing), and french onion soup. Its hard to get a bad meal at this place. This is my favorite place for hearty american food at its best. Fine selection of beers including on tap is a nice touch too.

Very disappointed with the service and food tonight! We usually have great service from the usual staff, but tonight was really bad. I am not sure what is going on, but everything was bad from the service to the food and cleanliness. VERY disappointed!!!
