Why does it seem like the more that someone tells me how good a restaurant is the worse it turns out to be? I went to Pataya on a Friday night. It was fairly busy. I sat at a small table & had a Thai ice tea that was very good. A waitress handed me a menu. The first clue that the evening was going to be difficult was that there was no separate sushi menu with a pencil to check off how many pieces of sushi you wanted to order. The second problem that arose was that my waitress had no idea what was on the menu & ordering in English & Japanese left her stumped. I ordered a lot of sushi. At least I thought I did. The waitress brought over food that I didn't order & even double helpings of dishes that bore no resemblance to sushi. After I had eaten six pieces of delicious salmon I was presented with the bill. I just looked at her and asked her where the rest of my sushi was? She didn't seem to understand and fled to the kitchen returning with an older woman who told me that every other item I ordered they didn't have! I thought about trying to re-order but sensed that it wouldn't be a good idea. So I paid the bill and left. Cliff Notes: Good sushi, terrible service.

The second best sushi place in the Valley, but they also serve a really good curry! The portions are good and so is the price. When I want curry, which my wife hates, and she and the rest of my brood want sushi, this is the perfect place to come. If we all want sushi, then Sakura Sushi is better, but pricier. If I want curry, Mekong is pretty darn hard to beat, so Pataya is a good compromise for people who want a variety of Asian food.

Came here with my aunt, it was delicious. The server/cashier introduced herself as Veronica and chatted with us our whole visit, it was refreshing and I felt warmly welcomed. She was very nice. As an appetizer we ordered the fried spring rolls. They were hot and tasty. Very good. I ordered the Paneng curry with chicken. Iam a Paneng curry fanatic. It's what I look for at Thai places. It was sooo good!! I could not stop thinking about it after I left. It was in a delicious curry sauce, had lots of vegetables, and delicious thin cuts of white chicken. Just how I like it! With white rice on the side. The chef came out and asked how our food was. She was also very nice! After we ate, we stayed and chatted with the front of house worker. I definitely cannot wait to come back to Patayas!

The server had a tough time understanding our order despite me pointing to the menu items that I wanted. After we thought the server had our order correct, another server from the back double checked our order with us and our original server had it all wrong. The service was slow overall and we had to flag down people to get refills on drinks and to ask for our bill for the meal. The owners kids were running around inside the aisles of the restaurant as well as constantly going in and out of the front door. The food itself was good. I had tofu curry with veggies- I was glad to find a place in AK that actually served tofu and sizable portions of veggies. The curry had some good spice to it but wasn't overly spicy to the point of discomfort. My dining companion was satisfied with his sushi order and commented that the fish tasted fresh. I would go back if I had ample time and stockpiled patience for waiting on my food.

My family's favorite spot in Wasilla. They like Thai and I like sushi, so it's a great spot for both.

I really want to like this place, I really do. But every time I go i wait 10 minutes for my order to be taken, then they tell you one of the Sushi chefs didn't come in so they are short handed and sushi is backed up about 45 minutes. This results in me leaving without any sushi and going to the Red Robin down the street. *sigh*

Still 4.5 stars! This place is amazing for so many reasons. First, I have to commend the owners for reading reviews here and responding to improve! They incorporated a few suggestions from my last review and it's only been about a week! They have also been doing some of their own upgrades, including a flat screen TV displaying a beautiful menu slideshow with several excellent, labeled photographs of their dishes! One of the staff was photographing dishes the night we were there so it was still a work in progress, but I was impressed at how many different dishes this tiny place had already cataloged. This speaks to their varied clientele. Not only that but when I asked what time they close, the waitress replied, "When the last customer leaves"! They have a Restaurant Open sign visible from the parking lot and she explained that they normally aim for 9, but people just keep coming in even if the Open sign is off. I know why! If that door isn't locked and I'm in the neighborhood, I'm going to want to eat here! Again I had trouble deciding because everything looks awesome, and even better, tastes fabulous. They were still out of squid, so no Ika Nigiri for me again. That's not uncommon in these parts and it's hard to get and keep it really fresh. Although I personally love Ika, I'm not sure how popular it is with others, either, so maybe there is not enough demand. Tonight we repeated the Thai iced coffee and fresh spring rolls, both every bit as good as the last time. We also ordered a Tekka Maki handroll (my mistake, I meant Nigiri but it was DELICIOUS all the same), Padped pork, and Pataya Shrimp (total $65 with tip). I can sum it up in 2 words: WOW! YUM! We forgot to specify heat level so we received very flavorful dishes with mild spice. This would definitely be safe for many that haven't yet ventured into Thai and aren't sure how hot they want it, yet it isn't bland and wouldn't bore the experience palate. The shrimp were peeled, deveined, and PERFECTLY cooked. These people know their craft and do it well. You are seriously missing out if you don't go at least a couple of times and try a few different dishes. The only suggestions I have for tonight's meal are using Thai/opal basil and straw mushrooms vs. Italian basil and button mushrooms in the stir fries, but those can be spendy and hard to find in Wasilla so I don't blame them and both were fresh and still complemented the dishes nicely. They are using kaffir lime leaves (yea!) and next time I'd like to try their lemongrass, galangal (Thai ginger), and cilantro/coriander dishes. I'd also like to see a brown rice option on the menu but there might not be enough demand for this either. Some improvements tonight also involved the inclusion of a soy dipping bowl and small plates for the sushi and appetizer. Also, at the end of the meal, the waitress brought us fortune cookies and she even offered me a to-go cup for my unfinished drink! Way to go, Pataya Sushi, you show your customers matter and that will pay you big dividends! We are going to be regulars for sure!

Time flies. Another year has gone by, another birthday lunch for my girlfriend has been eaten at Pataya Sushi. I'm really sorry to say I didn't get back there sooner! I had forgotten it was so good! The atmosphere is cozy, and the food is freshly made and delicious. I tried a Thai iced tea this time, along with a plate of Pad Thai. Both were delicious. The waitress was attentive and friendly. We were there right at noon, and while they weren't busy when we arrived, they were busy toward 1:00. Definitely a good place. I am going again before another year passes!
