Best restaurant I had in the Kenai area. I'd call this a "Kenai 5," but a solid 4, otherwise. The server was a little unpolished. And the brown-colored tannin water is a little off-putting, even if I know it's fine to drink. But the food, the view, and the space were all great. Nothing too fancy, but solid. I ordered king crab because the price seemed reasonable compared to the other highly-rated restaurant in the Kenai area, and the dish did not disappoint. Big, thick, sweet, delicious king crab. The oysters were TINY. I'm spoiled by living in New Orleans. I expect my oysters to be so large that you'd never dream of swallowing them whole. These were dinky little things, and just not worth the price for me. Fried pickles were good, and the salmon was well-cooked, unlike the salmon at the other place in the area. It was served with wild rice pilaf, which was good. The seasonal creme brulee, s'mores, did not evoke any season that But it was a cool idea. We spent a few minutes debating whether it would actually be a creme brulee before finally deciding to just order it and see for ourselves. Totally worth it, although the torched marshmallow fluff doesn't quite get the crackly crust that I expect in a creme brulee.

Would certainly go back!! Ordered an appetizer of fried pickles, which was a HUGE portion and the lemony aioli dip was an unusual but fantastic pairing! A must try. I ordered the shrimp salad which was so large and piled with extras that I took it home. Bacon, avocado, pickled onion, tomatoes, cucumbers on a bed of spinach, tossed with a sweet lime vinaigrette. Six large blackened shrimp crown this dish! When the plate comes out it may look like they forgot the dressing, but trust me, take one bite and the favors explode in your mouth! My Aunt ordered the small fish and chips, three well sized pieces of hand battered (almost tempura-like) cod and very mild tarter sauce. The serving of fries was enormous. We both order a cup of soup-of-the-day, which I do not have words enough to describe; I think everyone on the patio ordered this soup! It's base is a root vegetable but I cannot remember the name. Basically it is a potato soup; bacon, cheese, chives, and a dollop of sour cream top this creation. Bottom line, there is great food at this place!

Let me first start off by saying that the one 5 star review posted for this business was posted by someone who is either related to the business owners or works at the place because this place is not currently deserving of a 5 star review in any way. To start, the service is very slow. We waited for over an hour and a half for our food to be delivered. When the food was finally delivered, it was just okay. When you go out for dinner, you expect to eat something special - cooked very well - that you are either unable to prepare yourself or would be very difficult to do so. I had both the burger and the Mac and Cheese and both were just okay. The burger was overcooked and somewhat bland and the Mac and Cheese wasn't very "cheesy." Also, our waitress, while being friendly, wasn't very understanding. Not once did she apologize or offer anything complimentary for the lateness of the food. With all that being said, the restaurant itself is very nice inside (very nice for the Kenai/Soldotna area). The view from the back deck is also very pretty. However, they really need to do something with the gravel on the sides of the restaurant as it takes away from the look and feel of the restaurant. This restaurant is very new so I understand that they are most likely still trying to work out the kinks. Hopefully, they add to the menu or replace some existing items with ones that are better. I will give this restaurant another shot in the future and at that time I will update my review if the restaurant has improved. Until that time, I will be continuing to go to either Pizza Boys or St. Elias - both of which are what The Flats Bistro should look to as role models and restaurants that I highly recommend. Hope this review helps!

Delishous dessert, food was alright, nothing great. Service was very friendly but slow.

Can't beat the selection and diversity of Alaska beer on tap! Pair that with a thoughtful menu and a spectacular view and you have a beautiful restaurant, that is a breath of fresh air to the Kenai Peninsula! Good for small to medium groups, with a variety of seating between the inside, bar, and outdoor deck. Portions are on par with most classy restaurants, so order heartily! Don't forget to grab a couple of pints of beer or a glass of wine while you decide what to feast on for the evening.. Side note - First time visiting we saw a group of 20-30 caribou from the deck. A nature aficionados delight!

We had an amazing dinner tonight. From the fried pickles to the build it yourself burger and New York Steak...we loved it. Great wine and beer selection, too! Awesome service, too!

It was my first time here, but the burger I order was delicious. However, it did take quite a while between ordering & feasting, and it didn't appear too busy at first. I'd say plan for 1.5 - 2hr lunch break if you're going to eat here and return to work. I look forward to bringing the wife and trying their dinner menu.

Obviously this guy who rated it 5 stars was extremely biased. This place is SLOW and really loud. Service is terrible. Our waitress acted surprisingly aloof, like she didn't care. We don't think she had any experience serving before tonight. Either she was being a witch it she really didn't have a clue- I'll leave it to you to decide. We waited over an hour and a half to be served. The waitress acted as if there was no problem and was completely clueless as to how insanely slow service was. There was no thought to the customer or how awful everything was going. When the food finally came, she only brought out two of the four dinner plates and asked everyone if there was anything else we needed!?? Had to wait another 10 minutes for the other two plates to arrive. She never once apologized for the slow and lousy service. The food was just very average. When you go out to dinner (especially at a restaurant that advertises fine dining and Alaska seafood) you expect to have food that you wouldn't usually or can't cook for yourself. Our entire table agreed that we could all cook better than what we ate. Very bland and average. This was our second visit there - the first time we went we sat at the bar and had a couple of appetizers that were decent (the macaroni and cheese and the dates) We were excited and anxious to come again and enjoy dinner after giving them time to figure out how to run their restaurant. It is beautiful inside and they invested a ton if money to make it look great. (They didn't get the acoustics figured out - super loud) I am honestly really sorry to report that it's not worth the time or money to go to The Flats. I had high hopes but it is a huge disappointing fail - at least as of today. I sincerely hope it gets better as we really need a fine dining restaurant around here but this is NOT the place as of yet. They desperately need good servers and better chefs. This place had SO much potential - they invested a fortune in the building, but they FAIL at good food and service. :(

Stopped in yesterday on our way to Kenai from Homer. We are always looking for new places to try, since our selection is so limited. The decor is very nice, modern but subdued. It did take a few minutes for the hostess/server to seat us. But it was clear she had just been slammed for lunch and was setting a couple of tables to accommodate the waiting guests. We ordered a simple lunch and it was served in under 10 minutes. I will say the fries are the best I have had in ages and definitely the best on the Peninsula. After reading earlier reviews they seem to have worked some things out. I will say that they needed another server, as there was a steady stream of new diners coming in well after the lunch hour.

A definite must!!! The atmosphere, staff, and food are excellent. We came into Alaska for a fishing trip and was asking everyone for their recommendation for a nice restaurant. A short jaunt from Soldatna to Kanai was definitely worth it. Reasonably priced and excellent.

I asked the bartender Cait to surprise me with one out of three choices. She decided to bring me beef stroganoff with filet and home made noodles! Needless to say I mopped my plate clean! Best food in the Kenai/Soldotna area! 12 beers on tap and a very large wine selection! I will definitely be back!

The first time we went for lunch it was great. I got fish and chips and he got a burger and they were both delicious. it was around 3 so it was pretty slow. Service was great. Unfortunately when we came back for dinner it wasn't so great. We waiting awhile to see our waitress and order drinks and an appetizer and the table next to us said they had to wait 10 minutes to see the waitress! Our artichoke dip came with a heaping amount of artichoke and not much bread. we had to ask for more. Then waited about 40 more minutes for food. We ordered a NY steak and the pork tenderloin. They were both lukewarm, we asked them to warm them up and they came back about 1 degree warmer. Starving, we shrugged it off and ate then anyways. The pork was great, the steak was mediocre. The dessert was delicious though. All around, the food was okay and the service was not very good. We will stick with Louie's for a nicer dinner

The only place to eat on the Kenai. Outstanding food at a reasonable price and the staff factually cared. My boys got the burgers and were stoked. I got the pork ragu and after adding some Parmesan cheese, it was epic. We are out on the patio and watched moose out in the flats.

Everything had wonderful flavors and the service was adequate. Very slow but very nice. All our side dishes were cold ( our entire party of 13 experienced this ) but tasty. They ran out of asparagus and creme brule which disappointed several of us. Needs improvement but not bad!

Pretty good - a nice higher-end restaurant in Kenai with fresh seafood and beer on tap.
(4)Emily E.
Well, it was ok. The fish and chips had no taste. They put stuff on the fries that was super hot. They never even asked if we wanted it but I got stuck with it. They didn't have very good service. It was very fast to get food though.

At laaaast, a place around the greater Kenai soldotna township serving top notch food. I've eaten here on many occasions already and the food here is unparalleled. The prices are equivalent to paradisos and mykels, but the food is much better. They have a reputation for fine dining but in actuality they have a great beer selection on draft and one of the best burgers I've ever eaten (priced similar to buckets grill). Highly recommended all the way around great place

Great food- fresh, savory, but very poor service. Had to wait too long for orders and didn't bring correct food. Hoping they step up their service. At this quality of food and view, we expected good service.

Food 3 stars. 1 star for the atmosphere and location. Flats is trying to become the upper society restaurant in the area as Louis' is falling behind and the closing of The Crossing. Their entrées sound like something you've seen on a Gordon Ramsey tv show but there's much to be improved as far as taste and presentation. If this place wants to continue selling 20+ dollar plates, improvement is needed however if they back off the fancy, this could be an awesome live music knook with some really awesome food.

This place would make it in Beverly Hills. Awesome food for less than we paid for fish and chips in Homer. New York Steak was juicy and salad was a great blend of flavor. Absolutely yum.

One of the better restaurants in the area. The patio seats are scenic on a nice day. The food is better that most but not very flavorful. They have some unique offering. The service is ok.
(3)Mara B.
Unbelievably slow service. We waited nearly an hour for our drinks, which finally came along with our appetizers and entrees. All at the same time. Servers were kind, but unorganized. Food was good, but we were quite hungry by the time it came.

The best part of the dinner was the server. He was very nice. The appetizers were ok, the entree ' were crap I had the filet mignon that I ordered medium medium well and it came out still mooing, my wife ordered the brisket and it was so tough I could have used it for shoes, there was enough rosemary on her brisket to season 5 cows. The desserts were completely tasteless I had ordered the peanut butter brownie; I had more peanut butter in the peanuts that are in my pocket. My wife ordered the chocolate cake it tasted like burnt chocolate. I will not be eating there ever again. In my opinion and it's just my opinion it is overpriced for the quality of food they serve.

The've recently expanded their menu. I go often and they never dissapont me. It hard to find a reliable restaurant around here, but this one is amazing! Great wine and beer menu. If you go I recommend the artichoke dip to start. The only bad thing I have to say it that good service comes at a price, be looking to spend 75-100 for 2 people.
