    We stopped here mostly due to the fact the most everyone in outlet party was rather hungry for our return trip back to Anchorage after a long weekend in Homer. I do enjoy Don Jose's in anchorage and the one here is as enjoyable. Service was friendly and attentive. All the food was enjoyable and as the place wasn't very busy (we just missed the lunch crowd) service was pretty quick. Overall, a good place to enjoy a Mexican meal

    As others stated, "Mexican food in Alaska". Just know that going in. Especially if you are from Texas, New Mexico, Arizona or Cali. Okay the chips were like most Mexican places in Alaska...cold. The sauce for dipping is cold too but both were edible. The house margarita on the rocks was good but better after we added another shot. The fajitas were okay but nothing to write home about. The chicken enchiladas were good but again not to par with the Mexican food in the before mentioned states. Overall, for Alaska, it wasn't bad. The folks are nice and the service was great! If I could give a 3-1/2 stars I would.

    Good not great It's unfortunate that most places in Soldotna have been slipping down hill. This used to be my favorite Mex/American place. Mainly for the Seafood Chimichanga and Cadillac margaritas. Our last few visits have not been the best. The people are friendly but the food and drink quality was sub par.

    Probably the least-seasoned Mexican food I've had. Since I try to judge all mex equally, I had my usual, burrito/taco combo. I went through a finger or two of salt from the shaker to coax some flavor out of the food. Pretty bland. Maybe they don't want to over-season it for some taste buds. The people were nice though, and service was quick. My server even tolerated my mid life Munchhausen tales of adventure. This would normally be a two star for me, but guess what they had? You guessed it! FRESH jalapeño that I was able to ask for on the side.

    We were starving on our way in from a Halibut charter so we stopped at this place. Big mistake. My gut was telling me to run when I was waiting ten minutes to be seated. The restrooms were filthy, the food average at best and worst of all both my oldest child and I developed significant GI issues over the next 24-48 hours.

    It's a Mexican restaurant in Soldotna, Alaska. 'Nuff said. Okay, well, not really. A major pet peeve of mine is the cleanliness of a restaurant. It's always a bad thing when you walk up to an eatery and there are discarded cigarette butts and dead hanging baskets littering the courtyard. Had we not been in a hurry, I would've turned around and left at that point. Alas, the kids were hungry and we were on a deadline. So, we go in. The lady working as both hostess and waitress was friendly enough. She had that down-home charm that makes a place likable. Unfortunately, we were the only customers in the restaurant--another bad sign--so we had high expectations. The decor was typical Mexican-American.--bright colors, vibrant furnishings and stereotypical Mexican paintings. It seemed clean. We ordered a couple of kids' plates, a couple of combinations, and I had a tamale with beans. My family was satisfied with the enchiladas and tacos, but I'm pretty sure my tamale was the of the same variety as you get from the freezer section of the Costco on Debarr. And my beans were crunchy. Blech. It heartens me that they were probably homemade, but it still didn't make them taste any better. Prices were good, service was good, but food was mediocre. I'm not sure I'll stop here again...

    Soldotna Alaska is not Tampico. For the geography, not too bad. I had a burrito and Jane a vegi fajita. All in all average. When one takes into account where we are eating the meal, it is a pretty good place for lunch;

    My recent business trip to Alaska included a stop in Soldotna. With the temperature hovering around -14 degrees, Mexican food seemed like a good idea. Maybe the chiles could warm me up? I have to admit that my expectations were pretty low - how many miles do you think Soldotna is from Mexico? However, once I walked inside I was pleasantly surprised with the colorful decor and friendly, prompt service. The salsa seemed home made, the seafood chile rellano was flavorful, and the rice and beans were good, too. My guy had a burrito that he quickly devoured. By the end of the meal we had forgotten about the sub-zero temperatures outside and were transported to warmer climates. This is not the most authentic Mexican food you will eat. But probably your best bet for lunch on a cold Monday afternoon in the winter in Soldotna.

    During my business trip to Soldotna I began to crave Mexican food and behold I came upon Don Jose. I have to admit during my visit to Soldotna I have become very jaded with the many restaurants here that serve American, Italian, and Mexican food and all very unappetizing. To make the the story short, Don Jose does Mexican food well. I was very happy with the chicken enchiladas and was very satisfied. I was very disturbed when I looked through the menu further... on the back of the menu was Italian and American dishes. I don't understand this Alaskan complex. If you go to a place named Don Jose you should be going there for Mexican food, period. Why you would want to be served Italian food by a chef who does Mexican food so well is beyond me. Price wise, it was reasonable compared to some of the other restaurants in town.
