DIVE BAR AND LOVES IT! Drove from Anchorage to Seward on a Saturday to scope out the Sealife Center (check out my other review!). We heard that this place was the "salty dawg" of Seward or the "salty dawg" was the "yukon bar" of Homer..... I see someone else heard this as well! Ice cold beer, cheaper than anywhere else we have been but be prepared to pay cash! A note for people who do not like smoking... they smoke here (A LOT). Might want to bring an extra set of clothes to change into after :) Super cool place, do not miss it on your visit!

If you manage to come here and not have a great time, you need to start looking at what you're doing wrong. (with your life) Always a rowdy crowd, often a fun band. Locals, Anchorage-folk, and tourists alike, old and new...this place has something for everyone. Think of it like the "Salty Dawg" of Seward...or is the Salty Dawg really the "Yukon Bar" of Homer?! Anyway, they are both loud, fun bars with money on the ceiling that happen to only accept cash. Surprisingly good tap selection for such a divey interior. A must if you're in town, unless you don't like to party. In that case, go snuggle with Bootsy in the R.V. (note: I used to deduct a star for cash-only places but I finally wised-up and got a kewl bank with no ATM fees, ever.)

This is the local go to bar. Every night they have a different event (open mic, karaoke, dj dance party, live music, etc) That's all I have to say. Warning... your normal crowd pleasers songs are not the normal crowd pleasers here.

Was told by our hotel manager that this was the place to be as "Hobo Joe" was performing that night. Absolutely loved this bar - tons of interesting lighting and dollars plastered to every available surface on the ceiling and walls, great performance by HoBo Joe, cheap beer (Cash only though), and being that it was summer solstice, a night that never ended. Definitely seemed like a local watering hole and we really enjoyed ourselves here. Would be back next time we are ever in Seward! My only regret is that we missed karaoke the following night.

Drinks were fairly well priced compared to other spots in the area. They had live music which was also a bit surprising, but cool. It seems line the spot where the locals congregate, hence the better prices. The bar tenders were welcoming and had good recommendations. Make sure to order a snake bite :)

Gotta love a great local drinkery! Saw "Hobo Jim" who touts himself as an excellent song writer for many of the Nashville greats to the tune of 600+ songs. Without doing the research on that what I can say he is one excellent story teller and guitar player. We saw him at hooligans in Kenai two nights ago as well both times by happenstance. Beer was cold and everyone friendly! Good luck to all you fisherman and women out there who stop in Seward in search of that giant halibut or salmon!

I don't have a local bar in Anchorage, but I do in Seward! The Yukon Bar is apparently a historic building, but the draw for me lies in the friendly bartenders and the awesome Bloody Marys they mix. Add to that free WiFi, the canine mascots that periodically roam through, and excellent live-music offerings on the weekends, and it's a great, down-to-earth place to warm a stool for a few hours.

One of the rudest bartenders I have ever dealt with. I came in the other night with 4 girls and another guy. We immediately hit the bar to try and get a drink. The bar was busy but there were two bartenders behind the bar. After having the bartenders make eye contact and ignore us for several passes we started to get frustrated. The bartenders decided to walk past us to the end of the bar and start counting their cigarettes, I waved and had the bartender look at me and then he went back to counting cigarettes after a few more attempts at trying to get a drink I finally gave a little whistle. The big male bartender (I think his name is Daryl) came flying down the bar cussing and yelling asking who whistled I told him I did and he flipped his lid and started screaming to get out of his bar. I've never seen someone throw such a little bitch fit. I walked out and the bouncer followed me apologizing for the bartenders behavior I told him whatever, I am a local and I never had someone pitch a fit like that before. My buddy meanwhile was trying to apologize and explain that I meant no harm when the bartender went on another foul mouthed rant and kicked him out as well. We were all shocked and the bouncer kept apologizing to us but we did not want any trouble so we just went up the street to the Seward Alehouse the bartender there was a much nicer and more mature acting fellow. I am sure I will go back to the Yukon at some point but I certainly won't recommend it to any of the tourists that ask me where to go.

At $4.50/pint, draughts are about as cheap as you get in Alaska. And they appear to have live music in some form every night. This place was terrible for multiple reasons. One, it was completely full of smoke. It's 2011, and people are smoking indoors on a perfectly warm early evening? Get with the program, rednecks. Second, no, this place isn't getting with the program any time soon. To illustrate, they listed and posted the names of all of the city councilors who voted in favor of a beverage tax in order to fund a local library-museum. Yeah, because nobody in your little town should pay and extra 40 cents in order to give a place a touch of culture. One can only imagine how they'd react to a law banning indoor smoking. Third, the place was full of unpleasant seeming locals. They of course had some tourists, and traces of tourists (the five thousand or so marked up dollar bills on the ceiling were clearly some type of tourist thing) but it just didn't feel like a welcoming place to me. Maybe I was just overreacting to the creepy right-wing-and-cigarette vibe of the place, but I was definitely glad to get out of there.

I love the Yukon Bar, I declared it to be my new "local"! I love the loo, the bar, the tables, the music, the locals - I enjoy hanging out here, I found it relaxing and enjoyed every moment. I was here twice in 2004 & 2012, hasnt really changed much, what I like. This time I even left a dollar bill there. See if you can find me!

This place had the cheapest beer I have found in Seward... The only reason why I did not give it the last star is because they did not serve food there. BUT if you're able to walk about 20 feet you can go next door and order a (crazy salty but delicious) burger and if you ask really nice, they'll bring it over to you!

This bar is great. They try to get as much live music in there as possible and they take good care of the musicians who venture down. More places sould follow their example. They have good drink specials and free peanuts for when you get the munchies. Its an elephants paradise.
