This B & B is situated in the forest with views of the mountains on all sides. It is 7 miles from the water. The building is new, a large home with good-sized, airy rooms and spacious baths. My room has a fireplace, jacusi and sitting alcove. (It's the master bedroom). I can see part of a small lake from the window. There is an interesting rusty train engine in the back yard. It was purchased for $1.00 with the intention of converting it into a unique suite for guests. But that proved to be cost-ineffective, so now it remains as a unique conversation piece. Kim is Korean, a service widow, stayed in Alaska after the death of her husband and built this B&B. Shoes off at the door - so bring slip-ons. Oriental decor, comfortable bed. A tall person might have problems because there are wooden head and footboards. Kim serves a home made breakfast - waffles or pancakes, prepared just for you. As a woman traveling alone with a heavy suitcase, I was pleased to have help hauling my luggage to the second floor. I probably won't stay here again. It's a matter of taste. I didn't care for the overabundance of fake flowers and clutter of Oriental decorative items. Perhaps it's because I prefer the impersonality of a motel to the intimacy of a Bed and Breakfast. I also didn't like the inconvenience of taking off my laced up sneakers. But a couple whom I met on a birding venture recommended Kim's highly and said they'd definitely return. Wireless Internet is iffy. Sometimes it works; most often it doesn't. Kim turned it on for me, but I lost connection almost immediately. Visa & Master card; no American Express. $150. Pricy for a place with no view of the ocean. But about normal for Alaska, I guess.
