If you have a hankering for good pizza amidst all the fresh seafood available in Seward, this is the place! The texture of the crust was superb, sauce was delicious and toppings were fresh. And the service was warm and friendly.

Food: after contemplating what to order...we went with a medium Apollo pizza. The prices on everything else was higher than what we wanted to spend. The pizza came out fast. The bottom of the pizza was crispy and the dough was soft. Pizza came out pretty good. Wasn't wowed, but pretty good on beating my expectations. The toppings were not hot, but the cheese was super gooey. Environment: we were seated fairly fast for dinner on a monday. The restaurant was spacious. The waiters were very professional and attentive. Maybe a bit too much because since there was a lot of them and not enough folks in the restaurant. ..they kept asking for our status. Otherwise, very friendly staff. Overall: haven't tried other places in the town for pizza, but will comeback if I have craving in the fiture. Won't eat enythjng else since it's very pricey. I did really want to try their lasagna, but for 28$...I'll have to pass.

We spent the day fishing & brought some halibut & cod we caught to this resturant for dinner. Given that it was caught the same day, grilling the fish & smothering it with butter was over kill. It was also a bit over cooked. Fresh fish (caught same day) is hard to come by so it really shouldn't be mistreated like this. It was also not cheap.

I've been here before and it was decent. This time was absolutely awful. The food was bland and sub-par. Later on, my father and I both threw up - I don't know if it was the food or what but I didn't feel ill before I ate there. Who knows? I'm not a doctor. Anyway, I wasn't too blown away by this place. The interior is alright. Not bad.

I don't typically write bad reviews, but this place really deserves one. Let's start with the service: we arrived at 9, ordered immediately, did not get our food until 10:15. Further, we had to ask the busser multiple times for water, booze, and breadsticks, as the waitress was nowhere to be found. We only saw our waitress twice the entire time we were there. We did not get an apology for the slow service, and the food was mediocre at best. With the price of this place, the service should be top notch. Yelp a better place to go when your in Seward.

Had a pleasant evening on a busy Saturday night with good food and wine. We had the Alaska special for 2 with salmon and halibut grilled filets and King Crab legs, recommended. Lamb chops and pizzas at nearby tables also looked good. A good number of kids in the restaurant and all were eating happily.

Italian and Greek food. Hearty portions and decent food. Excellent and attentive service. If you want a break from seafood and are downtown Seward give this place a try.

This place is a dud. Terrible food. Overpriced. My husband thought it was so bad, he didn't eat his food. Skip this place and go to Ray's instead.

We brought in 10 lbs of the salmon we caught during the day and the restaurant prepared it fabulously! Half fried, half char broiled-- both were delicious! And such an incredible experience to eat our catch! The family-styled salad was good and the warm bread sticks on top were even better!

Wasn't very impressed with the food here. Tried the veggie calzone. The portions were large but extremely cheesy without much flavor. We also tried the rigatoni pasta which was pretty good. We ordered a veggie pizza and like the calzone it lacked flavor. The caeser salad with halibut lived up to our expectations. The staff was cordial but I may not return as I found the food to be lacking in taste and flavor for the most part.

Came here during mid March and had a good experience. Ordered calamari, lasagna and spaghetti with meatballs. Service was good. Only one waiter since off season and he did good job getting refills and food was out timely.

Great experience here with my family. Service was attentive and fast. Surprisingly professional for the locale. Had the gyro calzone: might have been the best calzone I have ever eaten, cooked perfectly, dough was very tasty. In laws had the Apollo pizza. I was impressed with the crust, same dough as my calzone. Wife had saffron seafood pasta, it was an interesting dish, no problems with the seafood, but maybe a tad on the greasy side. Everyone else in our party had no complaints and enjoyed their meal.

We ate here while visiting Seward, AK with friends. The food was mediocre, the service was slow and inconsistent, and the menu clearly showed a lack of identity. The menu is dominated by Italian fare, with only a handful of Greek items, despite this place being called "Apollo". Our friends laughed at the tacky decor that was a mix of Alaska tourism photos and fake Greek and Roman artifacts. The food was close to terrible. The calamari tasted either stale or frozen. The pizza we ordered had an underdone dough that was very bready and elastic. Our friends chicken alfredo looked horrid (and she confirmed it tasted pretty bad). Our other friends steak was ordered medium and came out well done. When he sent it back, the replacement steak was literally blue inside...less than rare. The service was hit and miss. Our server was nice and very apologetic about the steak mishap. However, the remainder of the staff was either slow or inexperienced. One worker came to clear our table only 5 minutes after we received our mains and prior to my friend getting his re-fired steak back. Clearly, this place caters to tourists who probably just want big portion sizes and don't care about the quality or price of what they eat. None of the food was worth what we paid and we would never dine here again.

  • Gavin B.

Service here was fantastic. Very attentive and prompt. Between two adults, one teenager and two kids, we ordered three calzones and two kids pizzas. Way more food than we could eat (except for my wife who devoured her entire calzone). Then those girls still had some dessert. Holy cow! But it was very good. Would definitely come back.

  • Nathan B.

We ordered stuffed mushrooms, spaghetti w/meat sauce and meatballs, and chicken parmesan. Overall the mushrooms great flavor but 6 mushrooms for 13 dollars kinda steep. The spaghetti had good sauce and nice flavor, really liked the meatballs. Chicken Parmesan was good but nothing to rant and race about. 4 stars will go back.

  • Tarah D.

Hummus is great! Enough for a meal if you're a vegetarian and can't have the pantheon on fish options. Otherwise the food is fine and the prices are okay. For a tourist-trap town, this place has enough options to feed a lot of different appetites. None are going to blow your mind, but they're all fine.

  • Damien F.

My seafood dish was okay but forgettable. The guy who waited on us was either bad at it or learning. He also didn't present the cleanest outward image and watching him smoke on his break was enough to make me feel less confident in the food and its cleanliness. She ordered Chicken Parmesan minus the mozzarella since she is lactose intolerant. They substituted a different kinds of cheese in large quantities. In conclusion if you get the order wrong because you can't connect the dots when someone says they are allergic to something, make me question the cleanliness of the operation, and charge $30 for dinner you don't get my repeat business.

    (1)
  • M S.

Food tasted decent, but is definitely overpriced... We had the chicken gyros and the lobster ravioli, both tasted good...you're probably paying twice as much for the same quality of food.

  • Rylee R.

I must say we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, and the service was great. Our server was very knowledgeable of the food and especially the seafood that was being served! We began our evening with calamari, and I must say we were very impressed, cooked to perfection and the dipping sauce was unique. We followed with fish and chips, very crisp and not greasy and an Apollo calzone, taste like a gyro with the perfect buttered bread :)

  • Pearl G.

My kids had the clam chowder and fish and chips. They liked it. I had the Italian steak sandwich. It was a horrible cut of meat with too much sauce. I did not like it. Sevice not that great. Won't eat here again.

My fiance and I visited the Apollo after our fishing guide recommended it this summer. It was pretty quiet, but we were greeted warmly by the hostess and our server was really sweet. The decor was a little kitchy, but the atmosphere was nice (it is a family-run business). We didn't need to look at the menu because we were there to try their preparation of our fish- if you bring in your fresh catch, they will cook it for you. There is an option of getting half of it fried and half of it grilled. We asked to have most of it grilled and just a little bit fried (it was salmon after all!). It came prepared half and half, which was a little disappointing, but oh well... The fried half was NOT something I'd eat again (the breading reminded me of fried shake n' bake), but the grilled half was really nicely done. It had some pretty char marks and was dressed with lemon, herbs, and olive oil. I could eat that preparation regularly. I don't think I'd come back for the fried fish, but the grilled catch option was fun and enjoyable. I can't comment on the rest of the menu, but this is a good option if you're doing some fishing and would like to enjoy the fruit of your labors!

  • Cody M.

The locals were laid-back and the service was friendly. The atmosphere has a Greek flair "The Apollo". For those looking for a good tasting cut of Halibut I recommend the Char Grilled Halibut. This cut is no frills, and is a nice thick char grilled piece of Halibut. Thanks Apollo :)

    (4)
  • M K.

Overall the experience here was good. They had lots of veggie options which always makes me happy. I went with the Greek pizza, minus the chicken, and enjoyed it. My friend had the pomodoro seafood and really liked it. The halibut was excellent. I didn't think the pizza was stand out. The service was pretty good but not excellent, therefore I'm giving it only 4 stars.

DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!!! We were completely ignored by the waitress for 15 minutes after being seated, and were greeted by her rude and and indifferent attitude when she finally decided to grace us with her presence. We decided to leave and go to their competitor down the street, Christo's Palace, which was wonderful. You should save yourself the trouble and avoid the Apollo at all costs.

A jewel in the otherwise un-noteworthy list of restaurants of Seward! Not expecting much during our overnight stay in Seward prior to our cruise, we stopped on the recommendation of a local working in the hospitality industry. My friend and I were AMAZED with their Char-Broiled Wild Salmon Sandwich! It was definitely fresh tasting and wonderfully presented! The ladies split a small Rustic Pizza. I was fortunate to be able to share a slice. The crust was as good as the pies I've had in NYC, with a flair! The flavors popped wonderfully! Who would have thought all that is a Greek restaurant? Apollo was THE best find in Seward! Eight thumbs up from our experience!

  • Paul R.

I'm glad that these guys do what they do. Bring in your fresh catch, and they will cook it for you. Half fried and half grilled. The grilled fish was outstanding. We had an extra 1.5 lbs of fish as the little one opted for pizza. It was a bummer that the cook chose not to cook the coveted halibut cheeks. It is what I was looking forward to. The meal was great. It would have been better if we could have given some direction on what fish to prepare for dinner. Chef's choice, saving the best pieces of fish, just did not work for me.

YES!! GO THERE!! We went after hiking up to the Harding Icefield & back, so we were a might peckish, & pizza sounded good. The restaurant is huge inside and pretty nice; our server was incredibly knowledgeable & helpful (apparently he's a cook during the winter). The selection of wine & beer was impressive, especially compared to what we were expecting. The beer list included a wide variety of both local favorites like Midnight Sun & Alaskan as well as choices from the lower 48. I had a tasty riesling with dinner, & my boyfriend followed his beer up with a pretty decent chianti. We ordered a large pizza so that we could have leftovers (can't remember which, now, but it was fabulous), and also one of the seafood pastas (can't remember which one of those, either - only that it was enormous & super-tasty). Everything we had was amazing. Slightly pricey, but worth it.

Good food and a great wait staff. Of course, like everything else in AK the food seemed very overpriced. The staff was very knowledgable about the food and provided some great suggestions. If/when we go back to Seward we will go - especially for their pizza (they are HUGE and YUMMY).

    (4)
  • Annie K.

I've only stopped by here for lunch on several occassion & love their pizzas! Service is good & the food is more than plenty. I recommend getting a few buddies to split the pizzas with you as they're pretty large portions.

What a surprise! My husbandand I were relcutant to walk into the restaurant in Seward that is Greek and Italian. Please.....what? But we didand we were quite satisified. We had a great server....we ordered te greek salad and twopizzas that were excellent. The crust was tasty where my husand ate the bones. He typically leaves the bones on the plate in favor ofthe meet and cheese. If in the area, I would not hesitate to go back.

Pam & I dropped in immediately after the race this past 4th of July. We really just needed to use the facilities but, we never do that unless we stay for a bite. The facilites were fine. We had a couple of glasses of wine, some bread and we tried to get them to put some balsamic vinegar and olive oil on a plate for us. We like to put salt and pepper in it and dip the bread to have with our wine. We learned that little trick in the bars in Milan! I think they didn't have balsamic vinegar but, they were very nice and we'd definitely go back.

I hate to two-star but meh, I've experienced better. The prices here are tourist season and they are outrageous. Local friends told us they literally swap out the menu when summer is over. We walked in with a party of seven for dinner on the third. The dining room was packed but we got a table pretty quickly. Service was attentive and the kitchen was as fast as you could expect on a busy night. The mate and I went halvsies on a pizza. As pizza goes it was tasty enough but came out cold, as if it had been sitting for a bit. I suspect they're baking the base and cheese off and then tossing on the toppings when the order comes in. Underwhelming. The others mostly went with dinner salads and pastas. Portions are large and the meal was pleasant, but the prices will make you do a double-take. Definitely suffering from sticker shock.

Spending time in Seward with folks from the bush provides an interesting perspective on food. When you live above the Arctic Circle and frozen pizza is your only choice, nearly anything else looks good. The pizza at the Apollo, they said was practically manna from heaven. I wouldn't go quite that far, but then I don't live above the Arctic Circle. I found the food to be a mixed bag. The pizza was quite good, better than I expected. Dining there on another evening, I had one of their house specials with fresh halibut. The fish was disappointing. Halibut was wrapped in phyllo, stuffed with crab, and baked. The fish was overcooked and the concoction just did not come together. One of my dining partners had fish and chips, which she declared were great. The service was decent and our waiter had a bubbly, chatty vibe. If I ever have a chance to live in northern Alaska, I will remember Apollo's when yet another box of Red Baron comes out of the freezer.

Sort of Expensive, their alphredo is out of a jar, BUT they have hummus, grapeleaves, and decent pizza Not the best but its CLOSE to home

We stopped here on our vacation, and it was a good, if not inexpensive lunch. Everyone told me they had great pizza, and they had a good crust. However, the sauce was 'off', I think it was too sweet like Pizza Hut. I was also annoyed that they got our pizza toppings wrong, but it was edible and we were on a time crunch so we did not address it with the waitstaff. To me, the star of lunch was the gryo meat and fries plate. The gyro had awesome flavor and a generous portion of meat, and the fries were hot and not soggy. I'd recommend this place to people visiting Seward on a vacation.

While I wasn't a huge fan of the halibut calabrese that our server said was quite popular, I did enjoy the garlic clams. The true standout though was the prawn saganaki appetizer. It is unique with jumbo prawns bathing in butter, garlic, feta and parmesan cheese. Plus, it's a large portion so it could easily be a meal. The service was really good and I liked the family style atmosphere.

    (4)
  • Iris A.

This place is pretty good. I had a Greek salad and my friend had the gyro plate. Lots and lots of red onions. The staff was friendly and this place is very comfortable. Bring breath mints.

  • Mareike H.

I decided to have dinner and go for the gyros. I was greeted friendly. The waitress was a star too. However, both of us forgot to mention/ask what kind of gyros meat I would like to eat. So, instead of the usual beef/lamb mix, I would have liked the chicken. She tried to get the order changed, and I waited patiently. Turned out, the chicken looked like coming out of a microwavable packaging, it was not crisp at all. Which I would have liked better. So I didnt finish my meal. I did finish the starter though.. pita bread, and vine leaves with tzatziki! Loved it! I really loved the tzatziki! It was really really good!

Food was ok. Had the meat calzone. Nothing special. Service was not good.

  • C J.

I have been here several times and their pizza is very good. I ordered a cheese pizza and my husband ordered a steak. His steak came swimming in garlic oil and wasn't trimmed at all....for almost $30 you'd think they would give you a better cut of meat. The waitress was less than friendly.

  • Stephen C.

Nice Greek restaurant. We had the Alaskan gold mine that consisted of salmon, halibut, shrimp, and scallop. Delicious.

    (4)
  • Hector M.

I really enjoyed the Apollo. I have to say they have some of the best tasting food in my opinion. The Greek spaghetti is one of my favorite dishes. As you walk in the restaurants entrance it could use a little bit more imagination, but don't let that discourage you for what the food and chefs have to offer. If you ask to meet the cook he will be more than happy to meet you. ( by the way his name is Kostas) Seward is known for its fishing and if you do go fishing in the morning. You can bring your catch to the restaurant and cook it for you. The price is reasonable considering all the work they have to do to prep your fish. I highly recommend it.

  • Eric W.

My family and I went to dinner here and the food was delicious! We all had appetizers (I had Dolmas which are stuffed grape leaves served with Tzatziki (Jajiki) sauce and pita bread which was outstanding! My sister-in-law Wisteria had Grecian Brushetta which is oven toasted Crostini topped with vine ripe tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, kalamata olives, feta cheese and olive oil which was delicious! For dinner I had a gourmet 12" spinach pizza which had garlic butter crust, mozzarella, mushrooms, onions, spinach, feta cheese, Greek seasoning (I don't know what that is but it ate good lol!) and fresh tomatoes! My nephew Gene had a Buffalo burger that looked mouth watering to even a vegetarian like myself! Also the owner of the restaurant was extremely kind to Gene, his girlfriend Kevina and the other members of my family! There was so much food we had to be rolled out of there but we will definitely be back!

In Alaska for a marathon June 2011. Took a day trip to Seward. To my surprise there were two Greek restaurants in town! Me having Greek roots wanted to try one of them out. Took a peek in both and picked Apollo because it looked more vibrant. The food was good. Our server/owner Demetra was just as vibrant! Family owned, her husband came out of the kitchen to say hello to a fellow Greek from Chicago as well!

  • Bha V.

Very pricy. We spent 42$ totally for a plate of Alfredo pasta and 1 small Greek veggie pizza. The pizza was good. But the alfredo pasta was just too creamy, buttery, cheesy. I couldnt eat even 1/4 of it. Good thing is that, their portions are big. So if you order 2 dishes, its more than enough for 3 people.

  • Shannon P.

A quick plug for hubby, who doesn't "do" opinion sites... he's a dessert aficionado - the baklava was AMAZING and HOMEMADE! It is the best we've had since our honeymoon in Mykonos, Greece, where he officially fell in love with the dessert. For my part, I loved it, too. I thoroughly enjoyed the dolmas appetizer. The pizza was also quite delicious - sun dried tomatoes, artichokes, chicken and feta... a 14" pizza fed us both that night and the next morning. I can assure you, the next time we visit Seward, I will be going to Apollo's!

  • Nina H.

I ordered a gyros plate & got a gyros sandwich. Had a salad with it. Tasty, but not what I asked for. Asked for ice water with lemon; thewaiter forgot. Came back, "did you order iced tea?" No, but I'll take it. Including tip - about $12.00 for lunch. Might go back, but only because I really love gyros and eat it whenever it's an option.

  • Sridhar D.

The food was very good. The service was great (It's a small coastal town, so expect laidback but attentive service). They had a ton of vegetarian options including Pasta, Pizza, Bruschettas, and some really good salads. We dined here a couple of times and were happy with our experience.

Im unimpressed. Maybe you hate your job. Maybe you hate kids. Maybe you are worn out from the frickin tourists who just mobbed you for lunch and so you went outside to burn one and cant muster the courage to pretend you love your job. I DONT CARE. I came here for lunch, totally expecting generic Greek/Italian food and decent service. The waitress was okay. Plain. Invisible. The food - which was surprisingly unique - Lots of choices, we had smoked-salmon pizza with a white sauce. But over all, the place left no impression on me. The waitress did nothing to win my patronage, anticipated none of my needs and pushed me to buy dessert, which only got my kids all whining at me. Apollo, i suggest you invest in crayons and greek theme placemats for the kiddos. Even well behaved kids need to be occupied.

    1. hugely overpriced 2. small portion 3. slow service Has to be one of the worst experience I've ever had with any restaurant. We walked in around 3pm, so couldn't order from lunch menu anymore. But the portion of the food is so small, we had to rely on the complementary bread-stick to get full. My wife ordered Halibut, but it's not fresh at all. I ordered Greek spaghetti, tasted at most ok. The final tab is $70 for 2 adults and 2 kids.

  • Gabriel C.

After a day of fishing, we stopped by Apollo. The prices are quite outrageous ($7.50 for a small greek salad, $22.00 for fish and chips. $25.00 for a pizza) and the wait was long on a steady week night. The service was slow, but when the food was taking quite long, the waitress provided us with breadsticks which were delicious and two free beers which were local micro-brews and outstanding. Once the food came out, it was very, very good. If you don't mind the wait, and the tourist prices, the quality of food will satisfy you to say the least.

Brought the halibut i caught and they fried the half and grilled the other half. Both were excellent but the grilled (Greek style) was the best I ever had anywhere.

  • Brooke G.

I will admit that I'm very hard to please where food is involved. I was in Alaska for a week and hadn't really had anything that tasted fresh or unique, until we walked into Apollo's. I can't remember the exact name of the salad I ordered, but it had an absolutely beautiful raspberry vinaigrette that was made from scratch! Honestly, who does that? More importantly, who does it well? The wonderful person who was cooking in the kitchen at Apollo, that's who! If they weren't a six hour flight away, I'd be there daily just for that vinaigrette! Thank you Apollo for one of the best dishes I had during my two weeks in Alaska!!!

After leaving Ray's for noise and traffic by our table we came here. The appetizer was great. Shrimp Sanguya. We thought about canceling our main course and ordering more. I had the Halibut Charbonese??? It was different but good. My husband had the special which was a pasta seafood dish he loved it. We had dessert the baklava but it was tough. All in all it was well wort the $80.00 we spent.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Greek Cuisine

Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.

Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.

For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.
