Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Another Mexican/Italian restaurant. The menu looks good, but the food is okay. Free chips and salsa, but the salsa is meh. I ended up with cheese pizza with onions. There was too much cheese compared to the amount of sauce. Very thick dough. Wasn't terrible, but wasn't anything special. I did sit outside and get to look over the water and the land across the way, which was very pretty. Prices are a bit high, but I imagine it's because it's a tourist town. There seems to be a pigeon problem, but I imagine only because of the idiots who feed their French fries and bread to them. They should definitely have "Please don't feed the birds and fish" signs.

Pros: One of the biggest menus in town. You are too hard to please if you can't find something you like on the menu. Plus a wide variety of different styles of food. Food is pretty good. Sort of a CheeseCake Factory rip-off. But 9 out of 10 times I eat there, I enjoy the food. Cons: Horrible service. Hostess is often acting "too cool" to bother with you. And some of the waitresses are just downright rude and awful. I see that one of the worst ones is now working on the dock for their little shack there, so maybe she won't be back to the main location. One of the better restaurants in Ketchikan. Just be prepared for horrible service.

Generous serving of nachos with all the trimmings; good Mexican & Italian menu (even pizza!); lovely view overlooking float plane take-off & landing on Tongass Narrows waterway, great Alaskan Amber beer, on tap!

This place used to be pretty good, lots of menu choices and the food good. For the last couple of years the quality has been slipping, instead of piping hot plates they come out cool enough to handle by bare hand. Several times I have eaten here in the past couple of years and they have never achieved cheese melt in the enchiladas or on the beans. The next problem is service, generally sullen and slow with a side of forgetfulness, they dump your plate on the table, leave and avoid you until you flag them down. Prices are way to high here, if the quality was better I might've able to see it but quantity does not trump quality in my book. Beer prices are through the roof at 6.00.00 for a Pacifico draft, especially considering there is a place that serves ice cold pints of micro brew for 3.50.00! I won't be back here anytime soon. Please heat your food up!

I had the Iguana Molcajete and my wife had the Chicken Quesadilla. Both were excellent. We sat outside on the deck and enjoyed watching the seaplanes land and takeoff. Sopapillas are excellent as well. Would go there again.

Great Mexican food in Alaska, who knew? Decor was...interesting...mural of a naked roman statue in the Men's room. Italian decorations. I believe they had Italian food on the menu, but we all ordered Mexican and it was legit. Maybe it's because I've been living in Hawaii with no good Mexican, or that I had been eating food on a submarine for the previous 2 weeks. Whatever it was, the Mexican food here hit the spot.

We've eaten at this restaurant many times, but it has been a few years. This year we came away with a negative experience and are doubtful we'll ever go back. Very sad as we had so enjoyed this restaurant when visiting Ketchikan in the past. This year we made reservations, to arrive and find the restaurant wasn't busy, but we still felt we didn't have great service. One entree that was served was not what we ordered, waitress never seemed to come around to check on things. We both ordered a different Mexican combo, yet each included a beef taco. While we were happy with other items in the combo both of us were very disappointed in the taco. The greasiest and lowest grade of beef taco we've ever had. The worst fast food restaurants we've eaten at did a better job than what was served at this restaurant this year. Poor service, mixed feelings of food quality, prices, etc. all resulted in an unsatisfactory dining experience. Not sure what has happened, but not as good as it had been in years past. Maybe that was why there were far less customers? Either way, we are doubtful we'll ever go back.

If you are looking for good service this is not the place for you. My waitress didnt even ask if i wanted another beer or how my food was. It also took at least 15 minutes to order our food If I have had good service I would have given 3 stars. I had the chicken Parmesan which wasn't too bad. The spaghetti that came with it was bland. the side salad was excellent. This review is based on my most recent dining experience. I recall last year the service being the exact same but the food being better.

Food-wise, one of the better restaurants in town. They could do better as far as service goes, but if you're not in a rush it's worth waiting around for the good eats. I lived in Ketchikan for three years and ate here a handful of times. I'm a fan of their Mexican but my family also enjoyed the Italian.

I am a Ketchikan local who has regularly dined at Ocean View (75+ times/year) for the last 10 years or so. In the past I had read the less than stellar reviews left here and on other sites and could not understand them. Today, those reasons became evident to me, much to my disappointment, as this town isn't exactly full of decent places to dine. Ocean View has been our regular standby, but no more. Our service and experience was absolutely deplorable today at lunch. We were a party of six and didn't expect our food to come out lickety-split, but our waitress was rude, impatient and unwilling to actually serve us. Our table was easily serviceable from all sides, but she was too lazy to individually hand us our beverages, and just unloaded them at the end of the table for us to distribute ourselves. Weird. Three of the six in our party ordered the grilled chicken salad, which is generally a fabulous, generously portioned salad. Today, all the mushrooms were black and wrinkly and obviously well past their best-by date! The chefs would have been better off to have left them out entirely and just bump up another of the tasty veggies. Throughout the entire meal we were completely unable to get our servers or the owners attention. Not one pass-by to inquire how we were enjoying our meal, nothing. At the end, when our server finally showed up with the bill, we told her of the poor quality of the mushrooms and how they ruined the salad. A plate heaping with blackened, shriveled mushrooms that several in our party had picked out in order to eat their salad was at the end of the table. She proceeded to go off and talk to the owner and came back and told us that is what mushrooms look like sometimes in Alaska. REALLY?? Was grocery shopping after this fiasco of a meal and the mushrooms looked great at Safeway. But, to add insult to injury, on our way out, I expressed our disappointment with the meal to the owner. As a frequent diner at Ocean View, he knows me and the frequency of my visits, and he was disdainful of my comments, defensive and rude. I am sad to say, this was most likely my last visit. We will miss you Ocean View, but it's just not acceptable to be treated so poorly at a local establishment you have loyally supported for years.

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST MEAL AND RESTAURANT I HAVE EVER EATEN IN!!! We should have known better, because when we walked in there were a few groups of disappointed people standing around by the hostess desk waiting to be seated. I asked one couple how long they had been waiting, and they said they had been seated previously and waited 45 min at their table and no one ever came by to serve them! Wow! The decor is beyond hideous, some kind of wannabe Greek theme painted on every wall. The menu was a little Mexican and a little Italian. They are painfully slow and very short staffed. I'm sure it doesn't help that 2 of their waitresses actually SAT DOWN at a large table with people that they knew. Dirty tables went un-bussed until another waitress had time to clear it. Just absolute chaos from the start. We sat down and waited about 20 minutes for a waitress to take our order. We spent an HOUR waiting for our food, all the time noticing 3 other tables who came in after we did got their food first. We asked a waitress to check on our food, she said it was on its way and she was "sorry I can't serve everybody well tonight" as she went back and sat down at the table with people she knew. When the food arrived, both myself and my co-worker commented on the greasy, salty dishes we had in front of us. It was so bad, we had to send back both dishes, and to our waitresses credit, she took them off our bill. We wound up eating dessert for dinner, because really let's face it: it's very hard to F up dessert. Food is already at a premium in Ketchikan, sad to see so much of it being made into crap and going to waste here at Ocean View Restaurante. No one seemed to care, especially the greasy goon manager hanging out watching the baseball game behind the bar. And lastly, but VERY important: check out the restrooms on your way in and let the condition speak for itself: restaurants can be measured by how clean their bathrooms are, and these bathrooms were extremely FILTHY!!! I wish I would have peeked in and taken a look earlier....SO GROSS!!! I can honestly say this is the worst place I have ever eaten. Why anyone would give it more than one star is ridiculous! It deserves NEGATIVE stars!!! Shitty food with shitty service. Someone really needs to call the health department!!! WTF, Ketchikan!!! EEEEEEW!!!

First off, this review is biased. I used to work there as a bus boy in their old location when the only view from Ocean View was the shipping containers! Fast-forward a decade+ and they are in a much better spot, but the food is as great as always. I recommend the Halibut Fettuccini. It's worth it! And if you're there on a potato/bacon soup day, then hit the trifecta! Soup, salad, and halibut fettucini.

The bro lives up in Ketchikan, Alaska and I've been there several times over the past 10 years. Without fail, ever since the first visit, the fam bam has to hit up a few spots in this tiny little town: 1) Ocean View, 2) The Pioneer Panty & 3) Burger Queen! I'll talk about 2 & 3 in another review... Ok, so the menu at Ocean View is extensive. I remember first going there back in 2004 and the menu was a smaller, more mexican style cuisine (obviously with white people influence - I can say that...I know TRUE mexican food growing up near the border!) with some American dishes like burgers, chicken, etc. Anyway, i digress. The menu has grown to add Italian, Greek, etc. probably to be more well rounded for the plethora of tourists. And I'm sure I've ordered a few dishes the first couple visits but once my bro recommended the fajitas I was HOOKED! I'm usually not a beef fan, so I tried the chicken the first time and had a taste of my bro's beef fajitas. From then on, it was the BEEF FAJITAS ALL THE WAY! The fajitas are super plentiful. You can have left overs for a couple days...you can even share with someone and still have left overs! A little pricey no doubt. I think $18.95 plus tax but who cares when you are in Alaska and eating the best fajitas ever? Not to mention everything is expensive anyway! This past trip I had my bday dinner there...and since my bro was getting married we had the whole family and his (now) wife's whole family so it was a wild, loud experience with ~30 of us and the waiters took great care of us. They even split up the bill in a million different ways at the end with no complaints or mean faces. Great food, great service, great company...couldn't ask for more. So if you are ever taking a cruise or for some reason end up in Ketchikan, make sure to hit up Ocean View for the beef fajitas. The pics I added make me salivate...

We had the lunch special chicken fajitas and beef ravioli in white sauce with sautéed mushroom. The Food was so delicious I didn't mind paying 13.00 a (good sized) plate for it. The wait was a little longer than average, about 25 minutes. However my server was awful. I not only saw her smoking on the deck but she tossed the butt into the ocean! Gross!

My favorite place in Ketchikan. Giant menu and everything I've had there has been great. Also very attentive waitstaff even when busy.....which is almost always.

As others have said, everything on this menu is good. Everything. I have eaten in restaurants all over the world, but I daydream about coming back to this one. They have awesome appetizers ranging from tsatsiki to Queso Fundido, any of their Mexican dishes are the best I've ever tasted, I have a friend who lives off of their subs, & I could wolf down their Mamma Mia pizza, Chicken Marsala, or fettucine primavera all day long. The fried ice cream or sopapillas are amazing desserts, & all of their portion sizes are huge! The only problem I have when coming to this restaurant is picking out just one thing to order. And the owner is totally awesome. Definitely the place to go.

i've been here before numerous times. even before it was in this location, many many years ago. i've enjoyed it for a long time, but not anymore for me. this review is based on the last time i will ever eat there again. i wont say anything about the food that was cooked in the kitchen. my complaint is not there. the host at the door & our waitress. we've got a problem. we got our complimentary chips & salsa & ate most of it (along with 4 tablespoons of a $5 guacamole) before we noticed it had a fake nail at the bottom. no wonder the waitress kept staring at us. she was waiting to see if we had noticed it. she was missing a fingernail, my sister could clearly see after we found the nail. All we got was an apology after we brought it to someone's attention. we still decided to eat there anyway since we were all hungry & travelling all day. i waited til the end of the meal for someone to talk too us about it, no one did. talked to the host & asked if we were going to be compensated in any way. he said no since he didn't have the managers code. i asked if he was kidding, he walked away. came back & offered 1/2 off our meal. I have worked in the restaurant before & know how to deal with customers. this is not how you treat someone after they find a finger nail in their food. I'm just glad my 2 year old didn't find it before we did & eat it. god knows what she could have been scratching or picking at with that nail.

We were quite pleased with this place. Kind of tacky christmas decorations on the wall, but nicely remodeled with a great view. Huge menu; one of the largest i've ever seen. We each had a molcajeta, which is protein, vegetables, and a sauce in a REALLY HOT black lava bowl with a plate of flour tortillas, rice, and beans. We could have easily split one. Nice presentation and both were tasty.

An interesting mix of food: Mexican, Italian, Burgers and fresh seafood. I chose to go with Mexican food, which was slightly better thanT-Bell. unfortunately the drinks were very weak as was the service.

Food selection was great. Reminded me of The Cheesecake Factory menu with numerous options. The food was great and the service was prompt. It was a rainy day so the view wasn't happening!
(4)Sarah H.
Been here a few times, the menu is like reading a textbook and gives far too many options for one restaurant. The Mexican food is excellent, the italian food, not so much. It's nothing special, but by far one of the most decent places in town (better than cape fox) and it's nicely situated on the ocean. Overpriced for the kind of food they are serving.
(3)Aurora S.
This place is a hidden gem! The shabby looks from the outside do not compare to wonderful service and welcoming interior! Although it advertises itself as Mexican and Italian cuisine, Oceanview has an extremely extensive menu with all types of salads, sandwiches, pasta dishes, Mexican fare and desserts (i'm pretty sure their menu is created by the same publishing company that Cheesecake Factory uses)! A very nice casual dinner spot in Ketchikan.

This was one of the two recommended places to eat in Fodor's Alaska 2011 guide. I think locals enjoy a break from the rustic and quaint fishing village and to escape to Italy (hence the decor theme inside). Also, the view of the bay is also attractive to tourists who want to see the beautiful bay setting. The menu offered mainly Mexican and a few Italian dishes. I choose a Mexican dish because Fodor's recommendation, the hostess spoke Spanish, and the background music was Spanish. The service was prompt in getting my orders and bringing out the food while it was still hot. I liked how they gave me an orange slice with my Alaskan white beer too! I ordered the carne asada and the meat was chewy and nicely seasoned. The guacamole seemed to be a little too much for the two tacos I received. One criticism is that they could have split the meat and filling into three tacos rather than two (to improve handling and minimize leakage from taco). The grilled onions were meager but I still enjoyed the few they gave me. Overall, I had a good experience and would prefer this to other options around town. It is nice to get away from the um-teen jewelry stores and have something that both locals and tourists can love: Mexican food!
(3)Darren H.
This is by far the best restaurant on the island. That I had a chance to visit anyway. Been here three times, and every time the food was great. Fish and chips were wonderful. Veal Parmesan. I could go on. Great atmosphere, busy. Try to get there before 6:00 pm.
(5)Danielle S.
Great place in little ol' K-town AK. This is my favorite place to eat when in town. Never had a bad meal here. Love it.
(4)Jonathan R.
I love Ocean View! It is this great little Mexican restaurant overlooking the Tongass Narrows. You can sit there and watch bald eagles fly by, maybe catch a glimpse of a killer whale swimming along and, oh yeah, the food is excellent! They give you some really delicious chips and some mighty fine salsa while you are waiting for your food. The price is very reasonable for what you get. Something kind of strange but makes this place even better is that if you aren't in the mood for Mexican food than you can order delicious Italian, Greek, and American food as well. I have had some outstanding homemade style lasagna and gyros and it is ALL good. Luis the owner is a good guy as well. The best restaurant in Ketchikan!
(5)Jeff B.
This place has wonderful Mexican and wonderful Italian food. My in-laws are locals and they eat there weekly. You may want to make reservations for the evening meal, as this place fills up fast. I had some of their pizza, but we also had enchiladas, flautas, and manicotti at our table. All of it was wonderful, the place was clean, and the staff friendly.
