Living in Vegas, I have been turned off by eating crab mostly due to the crap that is served at the casino buffet lines; soggy water-logged, salt licks. Being in Alaska, the quality should be better right especially since the Wizard and the Crew are so close by... This place is a tourist trap to the fullest. The price for crab was astronomical!! Luckily we had some cruise ship winnings to stimulate the economy with. Short on time, we ordered a trio of crab legs: King Crab, Snow Crab and Dungeness Crab. The Dungeness was nothing great; tastes like the same quality that you would get at a Chinese restaurant in the lower 48. The King Crab did not have much to offer was we get 2 huge arms with hardly any meat.... The star of the trio was the Snow Crab. It was sweet flaky goodness!. So good that we ordered another pound after the trio. They had a decent beer selection and of course like a tourist, I had an Alaskan Seasonal.. Service was decent. They were very expeditious with service as I am sure that they understand that time is limited in port and they want to get as many people as they can in the short time. Once we got done cracking claws we quickly made our way out and about town as time was limited at this port. It was a good pit stop for lunch and a much better excursion than that stupid Lumberjack show down the street.

It is a tourist killer We tried the King Crab there. Food is very expensive. $40/lb of king crab. vs. $18/lb in Costco. As tourists, I didn't have much choice. Another restaurant facing it had a much longer line. We should had tried that one, and could save us some money. Service was ok. We gave it a C+. We waited for 30 mins for a table. 18% service fee added to the bill. ouch! I didn't see that in the menu. cost us $22 for the tips. charged to my credit card as a subtotal and leaving the tip column blank. Wanted me to pay double service fee? No way for me, not this time. I am sure many tourists got cheated. I wrote down tip is included in the subtotal. Do not eat King Crab in Ketchikan if you are not too crazy about it, and can wait for another day. Go to Juneau of Alaska, and go to Tracy's King Crab Shack. This place has much better King Crab. $30/LB. plus free bread. Don't need to pay tips.

No. Just no. Should have checked yelp first. We left before ordering because we were never given the opportunity in fifteen min of waiting. It's good to offer good service to mere tourists even though they might not be back next wee or even next year. Know why? 1. Because a bunch of them come from tourist areas in CA and elsewhere in the Lower forty eight and are very jaded. If they feel they are being "handled," they'll walk and you'll lose covers. 2. Because they'll tell others that you act as if you give a damn about your custom rather than just worrying about fleecing as many as possible. That means you staff up on the days you know three ships and 10000 people hit town simultaneously. You don't just park people at tables and then ignore them. the Fish House next door had a line out the front. This place did not. Probably can guess why

    (1)
  • D Q.

Feel the tables here? Its like glue. To wife a table down with a nasty dirty rag hardly constitutes clean. Our menus were stuck to the tables. $24 for fish and chips? The fish came from the co-packer down the street. Serious price gouging going on here. We stayed a week here and found that they prey on these tour ship tourists. Locals will tell you. The margins are crazy on food. They ask these prices because they can get it. And don't think they haven't talked because each restaurant has an agreement on asking price. Btw, many of these businesses in town are owned by the cruise ship companies. Only a handful of these stores are locally owned. You can tell which ones, they are priced better and have better value, buyer beware. Food here was decent, not worth the $100 for for to eat.

So I was craving some Alaskan king crab legs and my phone didn't have service in Ketchikan. So I wasn't able to read some reviews on Yelp which really sucked. I was next door at a lumber jack show which was pretty fun. So after the show I was pretty hungry and did some shopping in the building that Crab Cracker was in that has several tourist stores. So once I was done I went to the Crab Cracker and there was no hostess to seat me so I waited a good 5 minutes. Finally the hostess seated me and I ordered the half pound of crab legs for 20 bucks. The crab came out hot with butter and tasted really good I was so happy. Ok so I thought the prices could have been little bit better but it is what it is. If I come back to Ketchikan I will definitely come back to the Crab Cracker because the legs are really good, it's close to shopping and it has a nice view of the harbor.

I walked up and talked to A lady and she was completely rude said she just got there with her nose in the air I was shocked, then somehow I I got shuffled back into going to that place for lunch walked in and she looked like a bitch and just laughed went next-door extremely overpriced but that's OK @Least people were nice over there they all seem to charge the same price a monopoly oh well

    (1)
  • Chloe J.

OK food. Expensive, even for lunch. Can be very crowded. Tourist trap - only open in the summer. Soon as the ships leave town, they close their doors.

  • Adam B.

Got seated and sat for 15 minutes. Nobody came to wait on us. Place wasn't even packed. I'd give them zero stars if I could. Ended up next door at the Alaskan Fish House. Much friendlier staff and service.

  • April S.

We ordered a fish taco and calm chowder at this restaurant before heading back to the ship. It was just ok. Service is average but the location is great. If you can find a seat next to the window, you can see a very good view.

  • Curtis C.

The crab looked great, but the prices drove me towards the halibut. Partner had fish and chips, and I had the fish tacos. Fish tacos were in no way authentic, but man were they tasty. There was a mayo based sauce, cabbage, and their salsa on top. Chips on the side were not made in house, but it was Alaska, towards the end of the tourist season so I wasn't expecting that. The fish and chips were really good, and were some of the best we had while in Alaska. This place in Skagway gave us four TINY pieces of fish, about a bite or two per piece, for $20. Partner got 3 good sized pieces here for $16, and the service was much better as well. Tasty food, decent view of the port and some good cold beer to wash it down with!

  • Don B.

Had one pound of king and one pound snow crab with a bowl of clam chowder. Everything was excellent. Service was real good considering the cruise ships were in and the place was hopping. They also had the best price in Alaska on king crab (that we found anyways) $39.00 for a pound.

We ended up here on a whim after reading so-so reviews on Alaskan Fish House which is right next door. ATMOSPHERE: We shot past the inside as we wanted to sit outside, so I can't really comment on it. The outdoor seating area is at the front of the restaurant with simple wire mesh tables & chairs and no umbrellas. Great views for people watching. It was very relaxing, but the winds cool down your food in a jiffy. FOOD: Clam Chowder - It was full of potatoes, onions, and clams. The soup texture was thick and it was pretty creamy, but not as yummy as Pike Place Chowder in Seattle. A bit pricey at $8 for a small bowl. Fish & Chips - I opted for halibut, and it was really good. 3 big pieces, beer battered, deep fried, and not oily. The overly-generous amount of fries were a thick shoestring cut, slightly seasoned, and crispy. Pricey at $18 but worth it. King Crab Legs - A half pound netted us 2 legs, but according to our server the chef put a third leg on the plate which brought it close to a pound. It was very fresh. $23 not bad. SERVICE: We walked in without a reservation and got seated immediately. The place wasn't too busy at around 1pm. Our female server was professional, pretty friendly, and checked on us throughout our meal. OVERALL: Great place to get your seafood fix on! I'm surprised that this place doesn't have more and higher ratings.

Had the soup bread bowl and halibut fish tacos, not very good. Halibut in the tacos were dry and the bread bowl was unspectacular. Not recommended and expensive.

Very delicious King crab and snow crab. I am glad that I order the crab feast to try it out. However server is slow, not I expected. Since I am tourist, I expected to pay for high price.

Crab was excellent. Don't go for the breaded chicken, it was raw and cold. The waitress replaced it and was apologetic, but we got charged for it.

I took away a star for the price of the food here...holy $#!+! Like everyone else, we came here via cruise ship. We have free food on the ship, so when we ate off of the ship, we wanted authentic, fresh food. We split the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl between the three of us and there was still some bread left over. It was truly delicious. The clams weren't rubbery and the bread bowl was actually good enough to eat, lol. Trust me...for $13, you can split it and you'll have plenty to eat.

I don't want to sound snobby, but I would consider myself a connoisseur of Maryland style crab cakes. If Maryland crabs are the style of crab cakes you are used to, then don't bother with the Alaskan style crab cakes offered here.. You will be very disappointed. There will be 3 silver dollar pancake size cakes for $18.00. The sauce is delicious, and they are made from fresh crabs. Otherwise they are just OK. Quantity wise, it seems like an appetizer. Considering everything, I could NOT recommend this menu item from this restaurant. Incidentally, when I asked the host about them, I was told "they sell a lot of them." I am guessing the buyers are uninformed customers like me. :)

We got off our cruise to explore the quaint little town of Ketchikan and after an hour or two of walking we were famished. We stumbled into the Crab Cracker Seafood Bar and decided to give it a try. After ordering a bowl of clam chowder and some crab cakes, I can honestly say it's some of the best seafood I've ever had...and I love and know my seafood. I would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling through the area. It's definitely the spot to go to for tasty seafood cuisine. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because the portion sizes were pretty small but not that big of a deal. I could stand to lose some weight anyways ;) Eat at this place and you won't be sorry!

Yum!! A little on the pricey side but that is to be expected for the area. The chowder in a bread bowl is wonderful and very filling. We tried the Dungeness crab after the waitress suggested it and it was very fresh and goes perfect with Alaskan Amber.

the food here is good, just way over-priced. definitely a tourist trap, and being a tourist, i ordered the fried fish tacos for $17. the tacos were good, but there were only two, and that plus some tortilla chips just didn't cut it for me for the price. others at the table ordered the fish and chips ($18-19 for three good-sized pieces) and the fisherman's catch ($17-18 for fried fish, shrimp, and clams). the clam chowder was just average, nothing special. everything was brought out hot and well-seasoned -- it's up to you if you're willing to shell out the $$!

Sitting outside on a mild Alaskan day while eating clam chowder and fish and chips seemed like a great idea. It was not. Well, not here. The clam chowder was runny and bland. It had a couple of things in it that might have been clams or might have been potatoes or might have been.. something (I don't know, without a taste or a smell an object becomes very hard to identify when you're chewing on it). They really should have called it 'heated up cream with a hint of infused fish'. That at least sounds fancy. The halibut fish and chips tasted like any run-of-the mill fish and chips I've ever had. They weren't terrible, but far from great. Actually, the fries were pretty good, however, when you say the best thing about your lunch was the fries, something is awry. Service was fine. Our server was prompt, polite and checked on our touristy party of 5 quite often. If you are from the South East, the ambiance was nice as well. No water view, but the sound and smell of water nearby while looking at amazing tree covered mountains is pretty damn great. Two last things that really make me wish Yelp had a 0 star rating. 1) I felt quite sick after eating here. Granted not throwing-up-in-the-bushes sick, but physically ill. 2) We were a party of 5. One of those was a child. The cost for 3 halibut F&C, 2 cod F&C, one glass of low-level wine, 3 beers and 2 waters? Over $200. Two hundred f&^%(ng US dollars. Avoid.

3.5 stars, really. Service is really nice, beer is good (maybe a bit on the small side) crab was tasty. My husband ordered Halibut and Chips and they came out raw in the middle. Server sent them back for replacement but she said the replacement was undercooked as well. She ended up giving him a grilled halibut sandwich on the house and he liked it. Most of the 4 stars are for our awesome server and my tasty crab.

Worst tourist trap EVER. Let's begin at the beginning. It took us 10 minutes to get seated. This wasn't because our table wasn't ready, it's because there was a coat and camera in one of the chairs. This blew the "host's" mind (the host being a 20-something burnout who was either really, really high or his mommy and daddy are brother and sister). He just stood there with his hands on his cheeks "Home Alone" style as the circuits in his brain failed to fire. Eventually the dude at the next table -- the obvious owner of the coat and camera -- saw what was going on and moved his shit. Once we got seated we told the waitress that an intervention was probably in order. She told us the host was originally the barrista, but that job proved too daunting. At any rate, I'm not sure moving him to the front of the house was the best plan. The menu was what you'd expect from a place in a part of town that seemed to have been built exclusively to deal with cruise ships and tourists. Horrendously overpriced crab bits, fish & chips, etc. After what seemed like forever, the food was delivered to the table. Silverware was not. It took 3 requests and 10 minutes to rectify this situation. I had the chowder and the crab "melt." I've put melt in quotes, because the term implies the existence of cheese. There wasn't enough present to bait a doll house mouse trap. The chowder and my wife's fish and chips were OK. Nothing special and not worth the price. Not sure exactly how much weed would be required to make this food seem delicious, but I'm sure the host (or any of the folks who gave this place 4 or 5 stars) can tell us. Avoid at all costs.

We found this place from the tour pamphlet that was passed out when we boarded the cruise ship. On the ad, it said this place had the best clam chowder. So when our ship stopped by Ketchikan, we stopped by. Out of all the clam chowder I had in the past, this had to be the creamiest, rich, flavorful clam chowder out of all. The chowder was thick but it wasn't pasty at all. I seriously wanted to lick the bowl... Now that I'm back in California, I really miss their clam chowder. I still dream about it. /sigh

Tourist trap; should have checked Yelp before. So bad, that I'm wiring this from the cruise ship. We wanted some crab, quickly because the cruise was leaving shortly, so we ordered the crab salad to-go. For $20+, and the 20 min it took to make it when the place was completely empty at 3:30pm, I expected a mountain of crab. Instead, when we got to the room and opened it up, there were only a couple strands of crab atop a mountain of lettuce and a couple straggling bell-pepper and onion trimmings. We finished eating it 7 min ago, and I had to draft this. Avoid.

Delicious chowder and amber beer! My husband and I aren't big beer drinkers, however it was suggested to us to try the amber beer once we got to Alaska. It paired nicely with their chowder. The service was mediocre and lacked excitement. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, nothing fancy or over the top.

    * * * * * FIVE STARS * * * * *. as good as it gets, Nothing is fresher. Nothing is made with more love & care. our group tried several dishes plus the chowders and not only were happy we were full. Reasonable prices considering your in Alaska and on a cruise. Fantastic dining room ambiance. Spotlessly clean well stocked bathrooms. The Host Mr. Dee Walker was very gracious and helped us order fresh seafood and have it shipped to our Arizona homes, awaiting for us when we got home.. Perfect service and the perfect end to a wonderful experience.

Hands down the best clam chowder I have ever had, love it! Tourist trap and ridiculously over priced is all true, but what did you expect for a seafood joint right next to the cruise ships' port? When you're on vacation, loosen the purse strings a little. That aside, the clam chowder was truly awesome. So creamy and decadent, like white velvet caressing your tongue, huge chunks of super fresh and tender clam. The crab was only ok.

FANTASTIC clam chowder, nice and thick and FULL of clams!!!!!
