We just spent 2 nights at the hotel. It was mixed at best. The room was fine; most rooms are tiny and crowded with furnishings. They lacked screens on the window or AC. This is generally fine except when it's hot and you have to open the window and deal with mosquitos. One of the major problems is the lack of service from the airport - no shuttle. When we booked, we told that there would be taxis at the airport and it would be no problem. Not TRUE. There were exactly 2 taxis at the airport and the taxi company could not respond to our request for a ride. We were stuck until a kind driver from another hotel gave us a ride. Otherwise, we could have waited for hours; it's inconceivable that the hotel has no service. The hotel is elderly and it shows it age. It seems Juneau has no really nice hotels just scruffy ones at expensive prices. The location is good, away from the worst of the cruise ship area in the old downtown area. Lots of restaurants. The service is both good and back. If you ask, the staff will help out. But our room was not well cleaned - the sheets and towels were changed but the bathroom wasn't cleaned. In sum, don't go to Juneau unless you can put up with mediocre hotels.

Great location in the city of Juneau. Old classic place. Has been updated throughout the years. Good view of the water. Nice restaurant and breakfast cafe. Also there is now a Starbucks located inside.

This was at least my 6th time staying here. The great thing about the Baranof is the location. Easy walk to downtown shops and the capital. The Bubble Room (bar) is always hopping with legislators and staffers during the session. This time I was on the 3rd floor. The room was small but clean. I had no problem with noise. The tub could be the smallest tub I've ever seen. The temperature was somewhere between hell and the sun. Thank god the window opened and I could let January's cold air in. The catering staff were great and very helpful as were the front desk folks. Prices in the bar seem extraordinarily high. A glass of Rodney Strong Pinot is $14.25! One night I had an appetizer and 2 glasses of wine and the total was $74 with tip. Whoa. Depending on the rate, it's an ok option in Juneau. I paid $119 for a single queen-sized room. It's not fancy. Kinda funky.

The Baranof is a joke in all aspects. It is old and gloomy with average food. What drug this review down for me was the fact that the fitness room had no AC and half the equipment was broken. Next, the rooms have no AC as well. The only way to get cool air in is to open your window and when you do that, you have to listen to the nightlife until 2:00am. The staff are gloomy like the old decor. Getting help or a smile is a stretch from this team.

This is my second stay here within 3 months. We have had wonderful care from the desk staff both times. We arrived late, and We were greeted at the front desk by the bar staff who handed out menus to a line of us who had just arrived. That was a wonderful idea which allowed us to peruse the menu and order meals while we waited in line to check in to our room. Kudos to the bar staff! Our sandwiches were made promptly and we were given the option of eating in our room or at the bar. We chose the bar and enjoyed chatting with the bar staff as they readied the bar for closing. We were never made to feel that we were in the way or an imposition. Our room is on the street side this time and the view is breathtaking. As we thought, there is quite a bit of street noise, even in the winter and from the 8th floor. Its not enough to disturb our sleep and I like this view better than the other side of the hotel. Next time we will request a larger bed, if there are any. My husband is 6'3 and we were a bit crowded. I would give 5 stars if our bed were larger. I ate breakfast in the hotel cafe this morning. I ate the Popeye. The spinach in my eggs was fresh, and it was seasoned just right. The only thing missing (for my taste) was a side of jalapeños and that was provided upon request. The sourdough toast was just right, not too crunchy to eat. The cantaloupe slice was just too small! The hash browns were just a tad greasy, but crispy. The view from my table was nice. I enjoy looking at the old architecture. The waitress was pleasant and very helpful. I'll go back tomorrow for breakfast! Yes, this hotel is old, but then, so are we! I love the historical feeling and the location is perfect for business or sightseeing.

Older hotel just off Main. Thin walls and floors, fairly small rooms. Pretty clean with basic amenities. Chipped sink and shower basins. Has hair dryer and iron/ironing board. No refrigerator. One side faces parking lot and one side faces quiet (in wintertime) street. Restaurant can be skipped but bar faire later at night was okay, if you can get a server to notice you.

Slow service, especially in the bubble room. Over priced menu. And food isn't that great. The wine selection isn't impressive. Always left there unimpressed and disappointed.

Decent hotel in Juneau. It is centrally located and nearby many bars, and restaurants. The hotel is a short hike to the State capitol which makes it convenient. The building is an old historic building.

Skip it! Rooms are so small that you have to step out to change your mind. Staff is indifferent. Housekeeping failed to lock our door on 2 days. Waitstaff cannot hear. Very dark, gloomy. Otherwise a nice place.

Do yourself a favor. Don't. Stay. Here. What a miserable hotel. I thought since it was a Westmark, the standards would be on par with other Westmarks I have stayed at. I was very wrong. I was in Juneau on business and wanted to stay downtown. When I managed to find the hotel finally (there are no signs indicating that it's a hotel until you get to the door) I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out where to park. When I got inside, the desk clerks were arguing among themselves because somebody said something about somebody else.... blah blah blah. I got their attention and got my keys. When I opened the door to my room, the carpet was dirty and it was approximately 132 degrees. Or that's what it felt like. I went straight to the heater panel in the corner and it was in the off position and still blowing hot air. Fine, I will just open the window because I am exhausted and want to crash. Well, the window slides open but wont stay open so I prop it own with the ice bucket. No screen on the window so it's a good thing I didn't have kids or a death wish. The desk clerk said he'd send somebody up to fix it. When I got back from dinner, still hot but the window stayed open on it's own so I just left it open. I was too tired to complain and figured that would make it cool enough to sleep. It was... except for the car alarms, street lights, street sweepers, drunks, and various other downtown noises that conspired against me. I finally fell asleep around 2 and BAM! Window slammed shut. Gave up on sleep at got in the shower at 4 am. There was no ventilation in the bathroom, the wallpaper was peeling off the wall, the back of the door was filthy with grunge, and there were tiles missing in the shower. Yes, it is an old hotel. But old is fine if it is still clean and in good repair. I left this place more tired than when I got there.

Giving two stars instead of one only because we received a good price and the hotel is in a handy location, but poor quality will keep us from returning to this hotel. The Westmark Baranof is in an old historical building so it is okay that the room was very small. That is to be expected in historical buildings unless the owners do a major remodel. An "upgrade" got us a King size bed, but the bed was old and uncomfortable so we woke up each morning with aching backs. There wasn't even a nice plush mattress pad on the bed to help counteract the too old mattress. The pillows also were old and flat. The carpet needed vacuuming and as soon as we entered our room we found a large toe nail laying on the floor between the bed and the TV, right at the foot of the bed. The corners, moulding, and fixtures need a good dusting, and splatters of gunk on the wall at the bathroom sink should be wiped away between guests. A light bulb was out in the bathroom light fixture. The bathtub was a miniature. I've never seen such a small tub! It was too small to bother trying to soak in because one couldn't even lay back but would have to sit straight up. The window in the bedroom opened but it had no screen so even though the small room was stuffy and too warm, we couldn't keep the window open without bugs entering the room. The drapes were missing sheer panels behind the heavier drapes so we couldn't open the drapes and still have some privacy from the houses and the parking lot outside our room. There also was no air system to turn on to cool the room or circulate the air, only a heater that we didn't need. At least there was a clean, portable fan that worked well we could turn on when we went to sleep. It was relatively loud but it helped. Small, old fashioned TV, but it worked and we weren't in Juneau to watch TV anyway. A reservation for two put us in a room with only two towels (what woman doesn't use an extra towel for her hair?), and one black tea bag instead of two. The breakfast in the cafe was good if a little pricey, but pricey is normal for Juneau's historical district. Despite the good price for the room, we won't stay at this hotel again. It is better to pay a little more to be comfortable.

Westmark Baranof is an older hotel, it's room we stayed in was quite small, visited another room was a decent sized room, depends on which room is assigned. Had a Thanksgiving Dinner at their restaurant and didn't want turkey or ham, chose Duck L'Orange Leg Dinner for USD 25, quite tasty. There's a cafe at the front of the building that tried and gave up doing a Sunday buffet. The meat in their Eggs Benedict was sliced so thin, I asked what kind of meat is this, Canadian bacon was used, but they were trying to economize, I couldn't really taste nor really identify it.

Best hotel in Juneau! I stayed in a corner room junior suite (bedroom and separate living area). Room was comfortable, furnishings were average with two flat screen tv's. Think of a Holiday Inn, in a historic hotel setting. Great location, close to all downtown stores and restauants.

Not sure if this is what all hotels in Juneau are like but i don't think I'd be staying here again if i had the chance. The room was very small, the bed was horrible, the toilet needed to be fixed my last day there (chain came off the lever inside the tank) and the shower curtain didn't hold back the water so when i get out there was a mini flood even though i had the curtain completely closed. The only thing saving them from 1 star was the fact that the room was clean and the old TV did have a good choice of cable channels. I think from now on my trips to Juneau will be down and back the same day.

Take a pass on this place! No courtesy van so spent an hour getting a cab at airport (got sent straight to voice mail at the two cab companies I called) no cabs come to airport cause they want to get a run to the glacier. I realize that this lack of cabs is not the hotel's problem, but, the hotel has a listing on the touch screen in the terminal. I guess it is for reservations ONLY???? OBTW the Super 8 motel had their van there twice in that time! I won't even consider staying there but they had a courtesy van, at least. The room was large OLD and really stale decorations. the kitchen looked like it hadn't been cleaned in some time (crumbs in cabinets and the cabinets looked like they came from the "Honeymooners" apartment). They have no complimentary breakfast (did I mention that I was charged $286.00 for ONE night?), no concierge, no nothing. The coffee shop is being converted to a Starbucks (just what they need). In all, a very miserable hotel. OLD DIRTY GLOOMY STAFF IS RUDE. I will skip Juneau in future as well. Just a real miserable place.

Love this place in old downtown Juneau! If you're looking for a typical 5 Star in the lower 48, this isn't it. But, and a big but, it's a cool older place with grace, dignity, and an old time feeling and flavor that I love. For one, I don't need modern, and two, sometimes it's even better when it's not modern. I'm a native of the NW born and raised in the Puget Sound area, Seattle/Renton. This reminds me of elegance now past. Service here is wonderful, great staff. Love the Gold Room, a great comfortable old time bar, and my room was very comfortable with all the TV and WiFi necessaries. Enjoyed my stay here very much!

Great service, capitol cafe in lobby is amazing, within walking distance of all the tourist traps, nice fitness center. Now for the bad, the smell...omg, horrible. The parking is complete junk, dont stay here if you have a large truck, you will have no where to park it. Very small rooms, very small bathtubs. We were on the 2nd floor so we had no view. Stayed over the weekend so heard all the drunks from the bars allll night long. There was a fight right outside the hotel at 4am, cops were called, we heard every word spoken. The walls between the rooms are so thin when they talk you could swear they are in your room. I will not stay here again, and i come to juneau via the ferry every couple of months. I booked the room on a whim and fully regret that decision.

The mind boggles how this hotel has maintained anything more than a 1 star, and as far as hotels are concerned we are not a high maintenance couple. Service was just plain rude. The "suite" was unimpressive and a 4/10 on cleanliness. All of which I could tolerate if I wasn't paying a PREMIUM. Location was only redeeming factor. For a corporate chain hotel, this place needs to be shut down and totally revamped.

I love this hotel. It is older, so be ready for an older look, but I think they are slowly renovating because the bed I had was new, bathroom updated and the furniture looked new. The restaurant is really good and they offer room service. The location can't be beat right in the middle of downtown. I usually get a basic room, but today I got a room that had a separate kitchen and inning room!

Room was expensive and extremely tiny. Had a very Euro feel....ie: no air conditioning. Beds were literally kid-sized..we were hanging off the ends with our feet! Needs and upgrade. Breakfast in the restaurant there was delicious....hearty and worth the money.

Very good old hotel with great service. The room was clean, but small as is typical of older hotels. Bed was very comfortable so we got a good nights sleep. Breakfast was included for our AAA rate and it was really good. The waitstaff in the Cafe was really attentive. Try the reindeer sausage and sourdough pancakes. We stayed on the 9th floor so noise was not a problem.

We had to stay here for a night because of a mess-up with out cruise liner. The people were quite helpful and nice and warm when we showed up exhausted from a stressful day. The rooms were very nice and the kitchen is a great touch! The hotel staff were all friendly and made you feel welcome. If I find myself back in Juneau for any reason, I will definitely pick to stay here again!
