We had dinner at the Harbor Grill with the four of us. We were a little hesitant due to previous reviews. However, it looked like a good place to go and there was a view of the harbor. We were very satisfied with both the service and food. Our waitress was excellent. She was very attentive but not intrusive to our dinner. I had the halibut cerviche and a house salad. In a previous review I saw that the person sent it back. Mine was excellent. It was fresh and was a generous portion. My wife had the chicken piccata. She thought it was great. The other couple both had fish tacos and were very satisfied with their meal. They had a good beer selection on tap. Overall we had a great experience. The manager also addressed us as we were leaving to see how everything was. We would recommend Harbor Grill as a great choice.

I think this would be good option for a large group or a tour, but not for a couple wanting to get some fresh seafood. The staff was very friendly and attentive; we were seated immediately by the host and the waiter saw us right away. The restaurant is clean and spacious. The waiter listed the beers on draft, we ordered, then he came back and told us they were out of our selection. When our salads came out my husband was told they were out of the Caesar dressing he had ordered. The food is mediocre, especially for the price. The scallops were bland. Husband's halibut was tough. Bread was hard with individual butter packets.

We were very pleasantly surprised. We almost didn't come here because of other reviews, but after checking out every other overpriced menu on the spit, we decided to roll the dice and we're glad we did. We came for lunch at the end of tourist season, so the place was pretty empty. Greeted warmly upon arrival, seated on the back sunny deck with an awesome view of the harbor. We each had a local beer and split the halibut - so delicious! Decent price compared to the other restaurants, and really great service. I'd come back and recommend it to others.

I didn't get my pickle. The children's Chicken is a little spicy. The place is done ok but it is still a little plain. Could use mandatory cleaning on the floors. It is also a bit cold in here. Are waiter was really nice and generous with kids.

Great restaurant to visit!! Very nice service, delicious food, generous portions, good views, convenient parking, etc. You can't go wrong here!! Texan visiting Alaska!

This restaurant is so disappointing. I give it 2 stars because the waiter was nice but the food doesn't even deserve 1 star. I was at Harbor Grill July 2015 for dinner with friends. We order oysters, halibut cerviche, and fish & chips. The oysters arrived looking like they were stabbed multiple times. Whoever is shucking the oysters in the kitchen needs a bit more training and practice. The halibut cerviche, which should have been fresh raw halibut with lime juice, looked and tasted like it has been prepared long ago, possibly even more than a day. The fish & chips arrived soggy and warm like it has been sitting in the kitchen for a while after it was fried. Poor quality food, super high prices Fish & Chips were $18, 6 Oysters for $16, I sent back the Halibut cerviche because I couldn't eat it. I don't recommend this restaurant at all.

Very slow and inattentive though oddly friendly service (strange!) and absurdly high prices ruined the experience. The two kids got chicken fingers, mom got fish and chips, dad got a mixed seafood plate that looked tiny to me (and I am a vegetarian). My Cesar salad was a mess of iceberg lettuce and what appeared to be mayo. Yuck. The portions were very small for the price. It took over 2.5 hours to get our food after ordering. All total we were literally there for 4 hours (from about 7:30 to 11:30pm)...the last hour was spent trying to get our check and then get our card back. The women's bathroom was not clean, and one of the two stalls had a disassembled toilet in it.

For a nice restaurant, it wasn't that nice. A toilet was broken with no "out of order sign", so that was really fun for a pregnant lady like me to find out after rushing to use it. The prices were pretty expensive and my Fish and Chips had virtually no flavor and were a little over done. Would have rather gone across the street but they were closed as it is still technically off season. Fiancé liked his salmon sandwich but he is new to Alaska and is used to eating gulf seafood not the northwest glory that this place could have been... But failed. Waiter did a good job but he just seemed bored and annoyed. Won't come back. Homer has too good of restaurants to attempt this place again.

I had the Catalan Stew which had a good broth, but the fish was overlooked. The crab claw was very good and the clams and mussels were fine. I should have accepted the offer for bread to soak up the broth, opting for rice which was just alright. The service was very attentive. And obviously you can't beat the view.

We came to the spit during off season and our choices were this or the happy face Chinese place. There was one other party that just left when we walked in. There were 4 of us eating and all the food was surprisingly good!! My parents got the halibut ceviche that was BOMB!! Probably one of the nest ceviche I had!! It was super fresh, well marinated and not too acidic. My mom also got a soup that was good. I forgot what else we got, but it was all pretty good. They have decent views of the harbor and the service was below average. He wasn't horrible, but I swear he was hung over and hoping there would be no guests. I won't go back, unless there are no other options

We arrived at this restaurant without any expectations and a big appetite. We were seated immediately upon arrival. Upon checking in I noticed all of these negative reviews so I thought "Aw man, I wish I would've seen this sooner" but I don't regret our decision to eat here at all! I mean I see that the menu is a bit pricy compared to other places, but it's Alaska. Pur waitress also said it was ok to ordered from the lunch menu (even though it was dinner time). I ordered the prawns with rice pilaf. It came with green beans, the choice of soup or salad, and some bread for the table. My meal was excellent. The tomato in my salad was not the freshest but everything else was simply delicious and tasted fresh. My husband enjoyed his clam chowder. I tried it and it was nice and creamy. His halibut and fries were also very delicious. The fries were very crunchy and I found myself eating not only my dinner, but some of his fries too. I am glad we came here. Hopefully others can have a good experience as we did today.

Felt like I walked into a cafe or diner, very clean.. After sitting down we had a huge sticker shock... Prices were pretty expensive for cafe dining and paper napkins.. Ordered a dozen oysters for $29... Actually pretty good...

My boyfriend and I, have been traveling all over Alaska for the past ten days and we decided to end our trip in the quaint fishing town of Homer. Without any pre-planning for this leg of the trip, we decided to eat at the Harbor Grill because it's location (on the harbor on the spit) and it was fairly late (8:30 pm) on a Tuesday night so the options were limited. In short, from Anchorage to Talkeetna to Denali to Seward to Soldotna to Homer, this was by far the worst place we have gone to. The service was terrible and not worth the amount of money you will spend since the prices were obviously inflated due to it being tourist season. When we first walked in, we stood at the door for ten minutes before a waiter (and, yes, a waiter, not even a hostess) finally asked if we had been helped yet. After we were seated, it took fifteen minutes before we were acknowledged by our waiter and were able to order our drinks. Upon ordering, the waiter could not remember all the beers on tap because he "had been away for the weekend." Looking over the menu was almost as frustrating as or waits to be seated and order drinks. Many of the prices were marked up $10 in handwriting, which made trying to actually read the prices difficult. Also worth mentioning is the fact that in their seafood stew, they have the "green leap muscle" listed but there is no such thing - it's actually the "green-lipped mussel." I think it's safe to say the menu needs to be updated. Upon ordering, the waiter did not share the specials with us until we had already placed our orders and he was unaware that both our dishes came with sides and bread. This was also reinforced when our meals came out and we had to ask for them several times (first the rice pilaf, then the vegetables, then the bread). Furthermore, as we waited for him to retrieve our sides, we had to listen to him set up a non-restaurant-related personal business venture with the table next to us, which gave the impression he was more concerned about how to get an extra buck than doing his job properly. I ended up using the bread tray to dump my crab shells in because he took so long to bring out another plate for them. Lastly, going into the bathroom was just disgusting. Again this is what seems to be a "high dollar" establishment based on the set up and high prices, but there were cleaning supplies scattered in the bathroom and the floor was filthy. The bathrooms in Denali National Park, which have no running water, were cleaner. With all that said, the food was actually pretty good, which is what saved us from asking for a manager.

I should know better than to go to the biggest restaurant with dated decor, but sometimes those places know what they're doing. Sadly, the Harbor Grill was a disappointment when it came to value and food quality. It wasn't bad, but far from what you'd expect from an establishment on the Homer spit.

Ok. Wow. This is one place I did not consult Yelp for before going. While I can tell off the bat, it is not a prime place to eat in Homer.. I won't lie, I came here because it was the cheapest crab I could find on the Spit at $69 for a pound. Granted, I got 3-4 juicy, meaty legs, whereas for north of $100 you can get a whole AK king crab at Patties. Maybe I should have gotten the crab at Patties. Thankfully, you don't really "cook crab" so I guess I can't say much about the food prep style.. I am scared to hear people got sick from the chicken here though! I would not meander away from seafood here. The mashed potatoes I got with my crab was chunky and good, though the string beans were a bit greasy. My mom got the halibut soft tacos which looked...not so good. We know the fish was fresh but there are better fish tacos out there. My Dad got the seafood chowder (looked a little wtery) with pan seared halibut. Didn't take a good look at what that looks like... I really would not venture from the fish and chips, perhaps the seafood pasta, and the crab. The service was fine- our waiter good with water refill, bread, and food came out fast... there are lots of tables here which is also a plus.

Spouse and a couple friends went here last Friday night. I had them bring me back some fresh oysters since it had changed from the mexican it used to be. Nothing else on the menu sounded good. They had a couple glasses of cheap (yeah right) wine, a couple buds and a couple redhooks. They only ordered Calmari and my oysters. The bill for that was around $130! Just for 6 cheap (most anywhere else that is) and 2 appetizers. What a rip off. The oysters tasted good but half were tiny while the other half were normal size Kachamak Bay oysters but what a rip off. I could get a dozen mos anywhere else in Homer for what a 1/2 dozen cost here. Even across the street at Captain Patties. Do not recommend. If you are looking for quality seafood this is not your place. I will not be going there.

We selected this restaurant prior to reading all the terrible reviews; we were already seated and had ordered 1/2 dozen oysters before we saw them. I've only had raw oysters on one other occasion, and I thought they were awful - reminiscent of ocean snot - but people insisted that they shouldn't be that way, and encouraged me to try them again. While I'm still not a fan, these were FAR superior to those I'd tried previously - not gross at all. The deep fried halibut was fine - not fabulous, but nothing wrong with it either. My husband had the scallops, which he said were only lukewarm. The rice pilaf and mashed potatoes we had as sides were only lukewarm as well. On the other hand, our server was extremely attentive and very friendly, which bumps this up to a 3-star in my book. Another server may have only garnered the place a 2-star.

Not sure what all those other people are talking abiut. We had 2 great, reasonably priced meals, fresh, tasty clean and great service. Excellent fish tacos and blackened halibut. Highly recommend. Ryan at the bar is very helpful and a great guy!

Harbor grill Wow. Head shaking ridiculous...wow. Almost speechless. I realize I am in Homer, Ak. I get that. It's not a big fancy city. But $80 for a glass of beer, overpriced cheap wine (although at least it was tasty), chicken finger looking calamari that were unseasoned with mayonnaise tarter, a Caesar salad that was dripping wet (at least an 1/8 inch of water was on my plate) without croutons and dusted with pizza cheese "Parmesan" and no croutons...mashed potatoes that were lumpy and skinned and green beans soaked with butter...yeah. Not good. At least the halibut tasted good. Denny's food for a kings budget. I would NOT recommend it nor go back. There is an expectation that goes with price and this place failed royally. I would have paid half and still been annoyed but not feel completely robbed.

Rolled onto the Spit and took my son here. First crappy meal while here. Expensive for the lousy seafood chowder. Not creamy or dreamy. Just cornstarch. My sons grilled fish tasted like gas. I guess they are just for steak, but who knows?
