Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

This place is incredible. Even ignoring that it is out in "the sticks" its a solid 4 star. When I pulled up I was dubious, like most things in Alaska, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but as soon as I walked in, it was obvious that a great amount of effort went into the presentation. Menu is diverse, with an adequate selection of beer to keep me happy. Once the food came out is when I was amazed. This place is on par with my favorite Italian joints in Socal, which is quite a feat! Don't pass it up.

I really want to say this local institution is great, but I'm afraid I have to stop a bit short. The reason: inconsistency. I have had really fantastic pizza here. I have also had pizza that somehow manages to be dry and incredibly greasy at the same time. I don't even know how that is possible. Same deal with other menu items. The bruschetta used to one of out favorite things in the world to eat, then we ordered it without noticing they had changed it, and it was bland and uninteresting. The sandwiches and calzones are the same. Sometimes, they are fantastic. Perfectly proportioned, well cooked, not too bready. Other times the ingredients are sparse and/or uneven, the whole thing is more like eating a loaf of bread, and it's overcooked. I don't know what's going on, but it seems to me that every time I find something to really like here, the next time I come back for it it is either not nearly as good or no longer on the menu at all. On the plus side: great wine bar, good local beers, reasonably good service most of the time. I'm sorry Fatso's, I want to only say good things about you but the lack of consistency and what appears to me to be a move toward cheaper ingredients is extremely frustrating.

Loved it!! The pizza was great, the service was fast, and the atmosphere was comfortable. There was a bit of a wait on the Saturday we went, but well worth it. My dad ordered the salmon and said it was wonderful - even my toddler gobbled it up. We also enjoyed talking about the artwork on the walls.

We really enjoyed Fat Olives. Ironically enough we're not as big fans of their pizza as with the rest of their offerings. Their three cheese fondue is addictive - we had it multiple times. Their canneloni with basil pesto sauce is out of this world. Friendly staff and good service, too.
(4)Linda O.
The food here was so good. The cheesy bread with the pesto was incredible. There are no bad meals here!
(5)Kathleen R.
Food was great. Good wine selection. Service was good

LOVED this place. Food = amazing! Great ambience! It's off the spit which is great because it's more local, less touristy. Pizza was one of the best I've had. They have so many to choose from. We chose the green garden and it was delish. The soup of the day was to die for, it had a red pepper base. I actually wanted the red seafood chowder but they were already out and it was only 5pm. I can only imagine how good that soup was. The oysters tasted fresh but If you're not into eating raw, they have baked oysters as well and those were really good. The staff was super friendly and the food came quickly. I highly recommend this place, definitely one of the restaurants in Homer not to miss.

Well, you're in Homer and looking for a good place to eat that's not too spendy? This is it. You can get slices up front, or go inside and sit for a fun Italian meal. Fun decor, great salads (caesar was dee lish), great stromboli, great sandwiches. Good bruschetta (not the best I've ever had but good). Yum! It smells good in there too. Good service. Fair prices and easy parking (the easy parking I guess you would expect in Homer!) Downsides? No Dr. Pepper. No Mr. Pibb. What a crazy world we live in. Also I guess I wouldn't mind if I got my salad before my entree instead of having them on the same plate. A nit.

I need more stars. I am always deliriously happy to eat here. Its the whole reason I even venture to Homer. The name reminds you that this is the kind of food your voluptuous Italian grandmother serves to only her favorite family members. Go early or be seen drooling at the door, waiting for a table. Its that good. And dont forget dessert!
(5)Liv L.
I love this place! I'm absolutely addicted. The pizza is INCREDIBLE - probably the best I've ever had! The dough is perfect. They also have a great selection of other foods if you're not into pizza - salads, sandwiches, lots of specials (including fresh fish). I'm also a HUGE fan of the bruschetta, although all three times I've ordered it, it has either come simultaneously with my entrée or even AFTER it, so that's something to keep in mind! They also have an extensive wine and collection of Homer-brewed beers (which are great). Just a few small issues: They don't take reservations! It can be tough to get a table on a busy night. The wait is never too bad, though. It's also a tiny bit pricey... but I have to say it's worth it! The staff is also VERY friendly!

Fat Olive's catered our Homer wedding and the food was delicious! The halibut was perfectly cooked and everything tasted great! Thanks Fat Olive's!

Who would have thought that the best pizza in the world could be found in Homer, Alaska? The oven is imported from italy and the ingredients are high quality and fresh. The crust is perfection, and my personal favorite is the Olive's Special, which includes a bunch of stuff that sounds like it would be terrible on a pizza, but somehow works wonderfully. The sandwiches are also quite good, my favorite is the ABC turkey sandwich, which includes apples and bacon. The waiters/waitresses are so friendly and the service is good even though the food can take a while.
(5)KandS D.
We read the reviews and were worried about the service, but our experience was great. The service couldn't have been better. The hostess efficient and pleasant. The waitress outstanding. As for the food, Cesear salad was standard but the pizza was really good! Desserts looked good, but we were too full to try.
(4)Richard S.
I sure wish I'd eaten here sooner. Although they specialize in Italian and pizza, I tried their rib-eye because the glaze was brown sugar and 6 different peppers, and I was interested in how that would taste. I was not disappointed! The glaze was wonderful and didn't overpower the flavor of the meat. They cooked the meat to a PERFECT medium rare, so it was juicy and tender. Really one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. The side of pasta and cheese was nearly better than the steak!

caesar salad with fresh bright big leafy greens and garlicy yet subtle dressing...YUM. Just what I needed in addition to dude eating at the bar wearing a full on pirate hat.

Fat Olives left an impression on me. Situated on Homer's main drag, it's almost hard to miss on the way to the spit. Inside, its high ceilings and walls painted with Mediterranean tones give an image of authenticity. Open doorways divide dining areas to give a homey feel. Tables and chairs are iron wrought and come in the traditional and bar variety. The restroom, in case you were wondering, was clean during my visit. I had the game hen with risotto followed by some pie. The meal overall was satisfying but not spectacular. The bill was reasonable. It's a decent place to dine in Homer, maybe even the best.
(4)Benjamin H.
This is the place to eat in Homer. Great food all around, cozy atmosphere, great art, great wine bar. It's amazing how cool they made an old bus depot look. My wife always gets this amazing sandwich with thinly sliced green apple and cheese. The pizza is amazing. I recently had the seafood fettuccine with fresh clams from Kachemak Bay. The prices are a little high but you get such huge portions. It is very easy to over order and have tons to take home.

Classy looking joint, kind of artsy with the dim lights and the decor. Ordered the Chicken Torta and the Stromboli. Chicken Torta = really good, really tasty Stromboli = kinda overly greasy but it's ah like ah da pizza. I highly recommend this spot. I stopped by here for dinner and enjoyed it immensely.
(5)Jonathan C.
Great restaurant that features thin crust pizza, local beer and wine, and excellent service. This is a locals restaurant "off the spit" and has better good and more reasonable prices than the tourist traps on the peninsula. I had the extra garlic Caesar salad and a pizza rounded out by a fantastic piece of carrot cake. Give this place a try if you make it to Homer!

Fat olives. With a name with attitude like that you have something to live up to. And they did. It was busy, but the wait passed quickly while admiring the outside mural, something of an artform we noticed a lot in AK the last couple days (first time visitor to this US state, that itself often seems to refer to L48 as "the states"). Wine was inexpensive (though $2.5 corkage is charged to keep cheapos at bay) and wholesome. Food was good. Not crazy good, the time between order and service suggested that the microwave offered final touch. This was OK for the baked oyster, but not so good on the baked pasta of my partner. The pizza was delicious, though could have done with LESS cheese. All in all exceeding expectations, with charming and effective service. Thanks

The absolute best ABC sandwich if you love bacon! The pizza and fettuccine were delicious! Carrot cake was a great desert to end the day with!

We visited here with our family. Most of us ordered the Cod plate and the fish was great. The service was great as well...they refilled our drinks several times. The desserts were delicious.

Over the last 3 or 4 years, I have probably been to Fat Olives between 6-8 times. I'm usually coming off a hike or backpacking trip, sun burnt and mosquito bitten or reeking of fish guts. Hot, I know. Homer needed a place like fat olives to come along. A mid-range restaurant/bistro style place that serves good food in a artsy renovated bus garage. Hands down, I go here every single time I make it to my favorite Alaskan destination of Homer. Here's what these guys do well: BLACK HOLE CAESAR. You will be fully prepared to ward off any vampires with all the garlic these guys add to this caesar. You will probably scare off the general public, too. Their pizzas are pretty bitchin' too. I especially like the Mediterranean with a protein added, like pepperoni, chorizo, or sausage. The sandwiches are also excellent with fresh ingredients, side salad and very amply portioned (you very likely will take some home). The flat bread appetizer and oysters are amazing. The wine and beer selection is perfectly fine and affordable, though I wish they offered more beers on tap (especially IPA's!). The space has accommodated slightly larger groups for me (6+). The restaurant has tolerated my group bringing in 6 bottles of wine (what can I say, my Homer friends and I are lushes). They offer an affordable uncorking fee. What they don't do as well: seafood and pastas. Don't get me wrong, the entrees aren't awful, but they aren't nearly as good as the kitchen does the pizzas and sammies. I had the shrimp and scallop skewers and both were overcooked and dry; relying too heavily on the shallot butter sauce. My step father found the seafood pasta to be a bit bland and the baked penne tasted a little boring to me. One of the first times I went to fat olives, I had a roasted chicken dish with risotto that was to die for, but has since disappeared from the menu...such a pity. All in all, this place is fantastic. I absolutely love the smells you're greeted with as soon as you walk in and the warm ambiance. I am totally willing to give their entrees another try since I have to be craving pizza or just endured a long hike to justify getting a pie. oh! speaking of pie, they make a wonderful macadamia nut turtle pie. It is every bit luxurious as it sounds. time for a road trip!

I got a pizza with bacon, Canadian bacon, pineapple, jalapeños, cheese and pulled pork; it was delicious! The dough was doughey and addicting. I got a side salad with a honey mustard that was good. For dessert we got the carrot cake with cream cheese frosting decadent! Can't wait to go back. Huge menu and service was great. Not too pricey.

This was recommended to us as the "to go" best restaurant in Homer. His pizza was fantastic, but a bit greasy. I ordered the baked mac and cheese with a salad and it was amazing. Definitely try that if you're not getting a pizza. Our service was good. Ambiance was nice and I was enjoying watching the cooks hand toss the pizza dough. However it is a bit echo-y. It wasn't too busy when we were there, but they had a note on the menu asking crying children (and adults) to step outside to calm down because of the accoustics. Overall we greatly enjoyed it and will go again when we're in Homer.
(4)James T.
Food = 2 Price = 3 (in line) Experience = 2 (Homer lacks a lot of high end spots..) The place stinks... literally!!! Are the owners and servers missing the sense of smell? They must be. It needs attention in the smell area. pizza was very average... salad was okay.
(2)Matthew M.
I really wanted to like this place. After a long, windy day on the bay fishing for halibut, we came here looking for a decent wine list and because they had pretty good selection of seafood entrees. As you walk in, you're instantly hit by the warmth and aromas emanating from the wood fired pizza oven. Good start. The wait was 25 minutes (on a Tuesday night) so we chose to sit at the bar instead. No issues here. The beer selection was limited to local Homer brewed drafts and a several popular bottle selections. The wine selection was pretty good, and reasonably priced. For food we ordered an appetizer local oysters, baked with spinach, cheese and bacon (i never pass up baked or roasted oysters). Never. For entrees I chose Halibut skewers and my Fiance opted for linguini with shrimp and scallops. We requested the oysters come out first, and also asked if they had bread/olive oil while we waited for the food. 20 minutes later the entrees arrived with 2 slices of oiled bread. No sign of the oysters. We reminded them about our oysters appetizers. They said the kitchen was out of sync, do we still want them. Yes of course i want them. It's oysters with cheese and spinach and bacon. That would probably make the cut at my last meal on earth. Quick side note: what self respecting Italian restaurant serves bread with the meal, not before? And only two teenie baguette slices? Is there a bread shortage in Homer? Okay, onto the entrees. I received two skewers of halibut, less than 5 oz total, heavily peppered, over rice and broccoli. No sign of the tropical salsa the menu mentioned. Price - $27. The Halibut was overcooked. Way over cooked. It tasted like dried out chicken, and the blanketing of pepper was overpowering. I was really disappointed. For a town known for it's Halibut fishery, they should be embarrassed. My fiance really enjoyed her pasta. It was very simple with a white wine sauce, letting the seafood shine. The shrimp was a bit overcooked but the scallops were perfect. She gave it a solid 8/10. Finally the oysters arrived. They were small, but delicious. If you go there, order them. 10/10 and at $2.50/oyster they're a great value. If I ever return I'd probably get 3 orders of these and a bottle of wine and be totally satisfied. The service was friendly if not overly attentive. We ended up getting a beer comped without asking because of the oyster mixup, but neither of us was asked if we wanted a refill of our drinks even though we finished them halfway through the meal. Keep in mind we were sitting at the bar with only 5 other patrons. We should be sick of the bartender's attention, not fighting for it. If I return to Homer, you can bet I'd come back for the oysters but I'd probably try most other places in town before returning for a proper dinner.

The coffee shop has a great breakfast sandwich, open early for early day excursions, and a drive thru. They also have a wide coffee selection that is very good.

My family who lives here highly suggested this place so we gave it a try. Upon entering I was impressed with the decor and open kitchen style ambiance. You can see them flipping pizzas and it's an artsy/artisan establishment. I will not however, be returning to this place for two reasons: 1. The food ranges from just ok to bad. Our table ordered the shrimp chowder and three pizzas. One person had what looked like a crab claw in their soup that should have been removed, lodge in their throat and choke, and two of the pizzas came out overly greasy to the point of grossness. 2. The waitress was awful. When we told her about choking on the claw her response was "what do you want me to do about it" with attitude. We just stared at her and didn't say anything but when the nasty pizza got there we told her we didn't want it and to please send it back/cancel the order. She took it but came back with a re-fired pizza and we told her the order was cancelled. "Well what do you want me to do with this!" was her response. We asked her to take it back again and she reached behind someone's head knocking them to take it away. The bill was brought and SLAPPED on the table. We ended up talking to the manager who removed the soup that the one dude choked on and the obligatory 15% gratuity that is automatically added regardless of party size. The manager apologized which was cool on her part but I wouldn't eat here again. Seems like the waitstaff knows they're getting a tip that is already included on the bill regardless of their service so, this waitress at least, knew she didn't have to have a good attitude or perform her job well at all. The experience was ridiculous and no one eats out to be knocked in the head, choke on food, or be given attitude.

Amazing cauliflower red pepper aioli sandwich!! Great atmosphere and customer service, loved it!

Good brick oven pizza. The mile high chocolate cake is great. Small town local feel. Great quality and service.
(4)Emily E.
Well it's ok. Every time we go there we receive a pizza with too much sauce or not enough sauce. The ABC sandwhich is Definitly not my fav food. Who likes sandwiches with Apple bacon and cheese? If I could pick one restruant to eat at for all my life this wouldn't be on my list.
(3)Josh d.
Wow! Try the Spicy Chili whenever it's on the menu!! Pizza is amazing, and great local artist decor. If you're ever in Homer, eat here!
(5)Jenny D.
Delicous pizza! You must eat here. Get a speciality pizza or create your own. Half salads are perfect for splitting.

My wife and I drove to Homer for a few days to get out of Anchorage, a change of scenery, if that's truly possible in south central Alaska in early March. We've eaten at Fat Olives before, two years ago, and remembered it as an OK place to sit down for awhile, to eat and relax at the end of the day. We called ahead to see about reservations, but none were needed on a Monday night out of tourist season since it was the two of us. But a large group would need to call ahead by about an hour so the space is ready. The appetizer was a fondue of a three cheese blend with mushrooms. Like one reviewer commented, it's served in a small cast iron vessel surrounded by toasted white bread, garnished with olive oil and seasoning. Kind of bleh, but we were hungry and did our duty. Then the tomato parmesan soup arrived, and again, bleh. Nothing especially flavorful about it, but it was warm and went down readily, however the toasted white bread on the side was a pedestrian touch. The main courses were spaghetti with meatballs, and a cannelloni with chicken. Both were OK, but the spaghetti noodles were the 1/4" wide variety, what I see on a linguini or fettuccini dish. The chicken was in chunks, not shredded, a nice touch. The wine and beer list had a good mix of local offerings, US, and foreign choices. But this part of the experience is where I moved from 4 stars to 3 stars in the review. A second glass of wine was ordered, it was poured, then it sat at the bar while the staff busied themselves with the closing routine. Not providing punctual service to customers in the last 1/2 hour the restaurant is open, when only a handful of patrons are actually seated is more of the bleh, again.

A great place to go if you think of calories as delicious points :P cheese and cream aside everything was spectacular. I ordered the special

This is definitely a classy local restaurant compared to the divey (though lovable) places along the highway or boring chain restaurants. Fat Olives had lovely decor, smelled like yummy food, and had a spacious eating area. My family ended up getting a very large pizza (it was within our travel budget), which had very fresh veggies and quality meat toppings. Based on what I saw at other tables and what I could see going on behind the counter, the food was worth the price. (I thought it was well-priced, my family is just super cheap.) Our server was attentive, polite, and patient. I'm giving this 4/5 stars because the pizza was fairly somewhat soggy in the middle. I would come back again, and either get the seafood pasta or a baked calzone.

Nice little joint. It's a pizza place with a little bar. Kind of classy. Much better than average pizza. Reasonable prices when compared to area dinning.
(4)Michael C.
Enticed by great reviews, we ordered a great pizza from here to go and ate it in our cabin by the cliff. [See separate review for Alaska Suites Cabins]. Satisfying, with lots of cheese. Unexpectedly-good pizza for an out-of-the-way place like Homer. The restaurant was jam-packed with diners.
(4)Haley S.
The service is getting worse and the food is going downhill. I don't like spending an entire lunch hour for just a salad. Even the pizza I love varies. No consistency.

I was visiting Seward with my dad and we were pretty seafood-ed out and in search of some real food off the spit. I checked yelp for some places around and found "Fat Olives". The reviews were stellar so we hopped in the car and drove over. The place was hoppin'. We found seats at the bar and were immediately tended to by a friendly bartender/waitress. We ordered some drinks and food. They gave us some bread to start and we had our food shortly after. I ordered a massive salad and my dad has a pasta dish. Portions were huge and delicious. Everyone was super friendly at the place and I'd definitely go back if I was in the area. It looks like Alaska does have more than just seafood!
(5)Sea J.
Not a bad place to grab some food! I was slightly turned off by the seafood pasta I had the first time I went since it did not have much flavor and the noodles were slightly overcooked. They left the tails on the shrimp and I don't care for the extra glucosumine. The Second time I went (since the pasta wasn't too bad) I had the rib-eye steak. That was delicious and was cooked perfectly medium rare. I really enjoyed the palenta and house salad. I was impressed. However, the price is a little high. I walked out of there spending almost 50$ eating alone and only having one glass of moderately priced wine. I would not eat there if I was on a tight budget, but being a treat I felt it was well spent. I have to say the one thing that makes this place good or A-okay was the ambiance. The Music is low and really good (Florence and the Machine on Pandora) and the people that join you are amiable. Plus the waitresses were Beautiful and the beer is local; two of my favorite things to experience while out of town. I'll be going back!
(4)Jonathan C.
The restaurant smells great. Based on the aroma I was expecting big things. We ordered one pizza with two different topping combos, but I forget which ones. The crust was excellent, but the flavor was somewhat lacking. I had to use the Parmesan on the table, which for some reason complimented the pizza unusually well. The interior is modern and somewhat industrial with a cement floor and corrugated metal throughout. Nice selection of beers. The biggest con would be price. Pizzas are on the pricey side. I've only been one time but I would go back to try other things.

Fat Olives is a nice upscale Italian restaurant without the pretentious atmosphere. I stopped in for dinner one Monday night to find it very busy but not crowded. The parking lot was full but deceptive since within there were open tables without anybody waiting. I had the daily special which was a filet of sole wrapped around scallops and covered with a Cajun spice hollandaise sauce. It was accompanied by a very flavorful risotto pasta and vegetables. The food quality rivals that of Glacier Brew house and Orso in Anchorage. I also noticed another table that was served one of their pizzas which looked and smelled very good. They have a nice wine selection. Fat Olives is worth a try when you are visiting Homer.

Four of us came here on a Saturday night with no reservation. This place is small, so we had to wait 30 min for a table. Luckily the bar was available and they apparently give out free diet cokes. The menu is pretty extensive and I didn't know what to get since there were so many great sounding things - shrimp skewers, sausage skewers, calzone, etc. I eventually settled on their pork shank with apple relish and roasted potatoes. It was a HUGE portion of tender pork for $24. Well worth it. The apple relish was pretty good but the potatoes were unremarkable. The pork was great though. My friends seemed to enjoy their pizza but it wasn't as good as Anchorage places like Moose's Tooth. Service was pretty attentive but that's probably because we were the last to leave the restaurant since we were seated so late.
(4)Phil S.
Had a wonderful dinner tonight. A bit delayed but our server Amanda was attentive, kind and and generous. Highly recommend if you are in town
(4)Ishi M.
The atmosphere is comfortable and the flavor in the food is so delicious that words can hardly describe. Wholesome, clean, exciting and delightful. The prices are not bad and the service is excellent. We've eaten at some of the best restaurants around the world and the food here is world class. The Katchemak oysters are definitely the best in the world and Fat Olives serves them up right! The chef, Pavel, personally brought out my Catalan seafood stew. Unbelievable goodness! We also had the seafood pasta, halibut, the garden pizza and the rib eye steak. Since it was my birthday, they surprised me with carrot cake and some amazing cheesecake. I don't typically give five stars because I'm a difficult critic, but Fat Olives is a restaurant not to be missed and worth no less than five stars.

We were very surprised that this kind of restaurant actually exists in Homer, AK. We walked in and the decor is quite chic....and the menu was quite varied as well. But the service was just okay. My Husband and I had the Champagne fondue and while it was tasty it was nothing to scream about. We also had the Mediterranean salad an a four cheese pizza that was good. Again, nothing to scream about but tasty. I have to admit that the pizza we had at Seward's Apollo was much better. Would I come back? Only if in the area but since I don't live here I probably will never come back.

Worst restaurant experience of my life. Servers were rude! And then they brought us out the wrong food, then had to remake our food which they said would take 6-7 minutes, but which actually took more than 20 minutes. And they refused to give us our soup first. I will not be returning.
(1)Richard H.
Hmmmm, not so great. Expensive, pretty crappy atmosphere, tacky artwork on the wall. Should have gotten the pizza but went with the seafood skewers which were really good but maybe they should up their price to $$$ instead of $$. In the late July evening, the sun will pin you against the back wall so take your sunglasses. Oh yeah, and the bruscetta sucks!!! It needs to be crunchy!!!

This food uses fresh herbs. I have always had wonderful food. Everything taste so fresh from the pizza's to the lunch & dinner dishes.

We visited here with our family. Most of us ordered the Cod plate and the fish was great. The service was great as well...they refilled our drinks several times. The desserts were delicious.

Great Pizza!

This place came highly recommended to us so we were excited to give it a try. The food took very long and then when they did bring the pizza out, they only cut one side of it. The Mac and cheese was amazing so I do recommend that. The shrimp and scallop skewers are $24 and really should be $10. There was no sauce or glaze on them and the shrimp was over cooked. The customer service was poor so overall it was a disappointing experience.

Came here on a summer/Saturday night when everywhere in Homer was packed. We were greeted with a friendly smile and seated quickly. The caesar was fresh and delicious and the pizza was also quite delicious. Service was prompt and friendly. A laid back and tasty option if your hungry in Homer!

First time in Homer; first time at Fat Olives. As a native San Franciscan I've enjoyed plenty of experience with Italian/upscale pizza restaurants. I would definitely come back and eat here again. The menu is of a decent length, if run-of-the-mill: various pizzas, pasta dishes, appetizers...nothing that really stood out because it exists on every other standard menu if its ilk. We started with the spinach salad, which was well executed though a bit wet (spin those leaves! Nice to see that they wash their greens though...) The pizza was satisfyingly good. A neapolitan-esque pizza with a bit of a thicker crust typical of American pizzas that was crisp outside without being tough with a tender crumb that wasn't too sweet or dry. The service was a-okay - friendly, accommodating, and balanced in professionalism and personable casualness. The space is nice and well-kept too. The missing star was for the prices, which seemed a bit steep given that we were getting basic food (albeit well prepared) - higher prices everywhere in Homer and AK notwithstanding.

We enjoyed this meal thoroughly, meatball with marinara sauce is simple, but it makes the tomato sauce shine through. The meat is not overwhelmingly covered with binders and fillers. My wife enjoyed the Salmon patty as well, if u can add the meat and barley soup. It's hearty and really filling.

Great friendly service. Yummy fresh, organic food. Easy location to pull in with RV and kids.

We had dinner at Fat Olives on 7/15/15 at around 7pm. The food was excellent. Loved my meatball sandwich! The meatballs were generous in size and delicious, just the right amount of sauce and cheese. A delicious dinner and great leftovers today! Staff was friendly and attentive. My husband and in-laws had their pizza and all agreed it was excellent. Crust was on the thinner side and pieces were large and foldable.

Our first dinner in Homer and we were in the mood for Italian. I had a calzone dish (forget the name) with Chicken, spinach, tomatoes, onion, and feta cheese that was good. The dough was fantastic but the inside was still (slightly) cool. Side salad had a fantastic homemade garlic herb dressing. My wife had a portabello sandwich with a side salad as well. She seemed to enjoy it as she finished the entire plate. We went for the chocolate cake for dessert and it was rich and tasty. The prices were right here and after seeing some of the pizza come out, wish we would've ordered one.
(3)Tim L.
Good pizza. Big sizes. Friendly local wait staff. Take out easy or sit down works. Many locals suggested we eat here. Wasn't disappointed.
(4)Terry R.
It's been three years since my last review and I have to say: it's gotten better! The cake is still to die for, the pizza is still greasy enough to blot, and the wine list is the best in town! I still take my visitors out to eat here, and consider it a treat when the kids and i go! If they do not cater, then they SHOULD! :-D

Eh, this has been a hit-or-miss. Sometimes the service can be stellar with great food. Other times, you'll get an ambivalent, absent server who'll deliver you a cold and over-burnt sandwich. Their desserts are pretty tasty, and their salads are pretty hard to mess up. I won't put up a fight if my friends suggest going here, but I would offer patronizing another establishment that I know has been more consistent with their food and service.
(3)Grace H.
I'm a local, and when I'm not in the mood for sea food (available everywhere in Homer) I definitely go here. Great salads, sandwiches, pasta, and especially pizza. You can order a pizza in the restaurant or pick one up to go from the pizza kitchen right next door called Fat Rack. The staff is always friendly and fun.
(5)Trevor B.
I would say this is the best restaurant in Homer. Fresh oysters everyday. Good steaks. And excellent pizza.
(4)Petunia H.

(5)Kerry W.

(4)Chuck H.

Again, nothing to scream about but tasty. I have to admit that the pizza we had at Seward's Apollo was much better. Would I come back? Fat Olive's is definitely one of 'the' places to go when you find yourself in Homer, and with good reason. Solid Italian food in a pleasant atmosphere with good service. We ordered and shared a Caesar salad, a small pizza, and a pasta dish. All of them were really good. Better Italian than you'll find in most places. They serve the local Homer beer--I guess most of the business in Homer do--and that was nice as well. We even returned the next night and sat at the bar to get a drink and a couple of desserts. The desserts were excellent. If I lived in Homer (I could picture worse fates than that) this would definitely be a place I'd keep going back to. Not just for the tourists.
(4)David F.
The food was excellent here, the servers seemed a little overwhelmed at times but were super nice. The pizza was great and the entrees were better. They have a great homemade salad dressing selection and you can even get samwhiches to go. Overall awesome place!
(5)Jim H.
Ordered the Stromboli and the spinach salad with chicken for a late lunch. The Stromboli was loaded with meat and topped with a generous dose of tomato sauce. The salad was a nice portion and the chicken made it into a complete meal. The desserts looked inviting but we were too full to indulge in any of them.
(4)Kari T.
I ate hear twice during my one week stay, and both times the place was packed. I had soup and salad one night, and an appetizer the other. Service is top notch. I'm giving it four stars because the wine list is so-so and on both occasions the food too salty. (so three stars for food). But in all, a good atmosphere.
(4)Kati S.
While the food was good the service was disgustingly awful. The waitress had a rude, snarky attitude. We ended up giving her tip to another waitress who was actually kind and left her with .49 and a nice note explaining why. It was awful. Absolutely awful. Which is a shame because the food was good. The set up was odd, but overall it was the attitude on the area that really destroyed it.
(1)John Z.
Food has always been awesome although I must confess the only thing I keep ordering is pizza. And desserts. Mmm desserts.
(4)Burgess W.
Best two-fisted thrown pizza that i've had in decades-- we were there on a Tuesday evening and there was a constant flow of traffic. The dessert/pastries looked to be excellent. The whole experience was a pleasant surprise.
(5)S E.
Ate dinner here and really enjoyed it. There was one waitress handling 8 tables w/approximately 28 people. With the help of 2-3 other servers, the service was fantastic. We were seated in about 3 minutes and had no delays ordering food, receiving meal, getting check, or paying. The prices were good and the food was nicely portioned. I definitely recommend dinner here when you're in town.
(5)Mareike H.
Loved this place! Atmosphere, food selection, decoration - everything! We shared appetizers : Kachemak Oysters, Bruchetta. I have never had Oysters before, but these ones I did like. So, I may try Oysters one day again based on my experience at Fat Olives. The bruchetta was one of the best I have eaten in a long time, pesto on the bread with a slice of tomato and baked with mozarella. Yum! We shared a main: (mediterrainian?) Pizza and a salad with blue cheese crumbles and glazed peacans. Both very yummy! The pizza was very good and definitely something to be shared, unless you have a big bear hunger! All pizzas looked good on the menue. Definitely a great place to hang out! I ll return!

This was a great recommendation from a friend. I had the house calzone with pesto, spinach, mushrooms, artichoke hears and 3 kinds of cheese. YUMMY! Came with a salad too. Husband had the italian submarine on focaccia and enjoyed every bite. The only downer was the long wait. Service was good and so was the beer she recommended. Will return!

We had heard great things from a local about Fat Olives. So we set out to have lunch there. We were seated immediately. The restaurant was cozy, but loud. The acoustics of the place don't lend well to a quiet meal. We were visited by 2 different waitresses for drink orders. We placed our lunch order, but it took FOREVER for our oysters on a half shell to come out. Noticed 2 other tables that arrived after us being served with their lunches prior to our oysters. Pizza was ordered, baked and served before 12 oysters could be shucked and served?!?! The oysters were good. The soup/sandwich combo's followed within a reasonable amount of time. 1/2 of my son's sandwich was missing, we asked the waitress if that was expected, she failed to mention when she served it that it had fallen off the plate and the cook was preparing a new 1/2. They get coo-dos for not serving the dropped 1/2. The soup/sandwich combos were good. The food was good, but the wait was way too excessive. Note to self, order pizza or salad, it comes out much faster. Would I go back based on this experience, probably not for a while, bad service is just as disappointing as bad food.

A nit.
(5)Moira I.

(5)Banana B.
caesar salad with fresh bright big leafy greens and garlicy yet subtle dressing...YUM.

Awesome food, somtimes the only reason I make a trip down to homer. Fire wood oven, great thin crust pizza and Italian food.

The food here was so good. The cheesy bread with the pesto was incredible. There are no bad meals here!

Food was great. Good wine selection. Service was good

Good pizza. Big sizes. Friendly local wait staff. Take out easy or sit down works. Many locals suggested we eat here. Wasn't disappointed.
