Did not expect to find a place like this in Homer, but here it is. I had the scallop / chicken satay on basmati rice. The scallops were fresh and tender and the chicken was moist and delicious. Appetizer menu is nice, I had the calamari. Great wine selection, I had a beer. The ladies that run this place are so knowledgeable and informative. Best place in Homer.

Are here on 9/19/15 based on Yelp reviews and the fact that it's 200 feet from the Pioneer Hotel, where we're staying. I ordered the prime rib, while my wife ordered the scallops. Both were outstanding, as was the service. Had a very tasty Pinot Gris at a very reasonable price, and desert was a delicious cake called "Dave's Cake". Salads were crisp and tasty. All this goodness for only about $100 (plus tip). Impressive place.

BF and I went on a Saturday evening in late September. It was packed! We were seated at a tall table near the front window. The place is adorable both inside and out. Not fancy like you might expect when looking at the menu prices. The downside is that it is VERY loud. Was difficult to hear BF, who was right next to me. We both ended up getting a pasta/seafood special and it was good. The serving size was gigantic. I'd venture to guess this is as good as it gets in Homer, AK.

Amazing food the seafood was sooooooo fresh and tasty. The presentation was artful with a fresh flower on every plate. Bread was fresh. Overall an amazing place

Meh, just ok. Mussel appetizer was good, but everything else was just ok. Limited beer list. Green curry is not recommended. I've had lots of great really spicy curries and this one had no flavor (definitely not green curry) other than overwhelming spice.

I had the lamb shank special which admittedly, I didn't love. I had a hard time choosing and wish I would've went with something else bit it was still enjoyable. My wife absolutely loved her halibut and rockfish special that came with quinoa, barley and a cilantro lime sauce. I tried it and thought it was great as well. Oysters on the half shell for an app that had a great homemade cocktail sauce. We had a birch toffee ice cream for dessert that was good but left a fatty film in our mouths which was off putting. Wish we could've come back for a second meal.

I love this place, the chef is adventurous in food pairings and the duck was out of this world. The seafood pasta was delicious and the steamed clams were really tasty. We live here and this is our favorite place.

To the owner/ manager, waitress and bus girl of CUPS- NO, we did not steal your napkin rings. My sons watched the waitress take them off the table, and for you to accuse your customers (two adults and their children) of stealing four cheap ugly napkin rings is completely insane. We are just four tourists on a Backroads trip, and now of course I will tell Backroads never to send anyone to Cups. Do not go here. They are weird and crazy. (And the food is meh). Can I give negative stars?

We hade dinner there last night and the Seafood was all fresh. We had the steamer clam, mussels, and cooked oysters just to start off with.

Went in for oysters on the half shell. Wow. They were fantastic. Drank some great Homer brewed beer too. And staff was so friendly and helpful. Anyone in the area should visit.

Absolutely my favorite place to eat. I am a local and cannot get enough of this place. Fresh seafood and great service. Usually have the special.......desert rocks.......and they have awesome hoodies that say...DEMAND LOCAL SEAFOOD. That's cool and I appreciate that you can have a bomb cheeseburger to a filet........delicious

10pm. Most everywhere in town is closing or closed. We're starving. Have been turned away from 3 places. Hopes of a decent meal fading fast. We're staring down the barrel of a crappy gas station burrito with gastroenteritis for dessert. Enter Cafe Cups, a double-extra-overtime saviour! They were cray cray busy but made room for us anyway, and the food . . . dear lord, the food was off the planet. Fresh backed oysters, giant ones, summer ales, a heady, pungent clam stew - one of the best I've had, which ain't no mean feat (double negative notwithstanding) -and a Caesar salad that has to be seen to be believed. This thing was monstrous, and with some blackened halibut on top, well, I don't need to paint you a picture. I want to though. That's how good this meal was.

Love Cups! Amazing food with great atmosphere! You can't go wrong at this restaurant. Specials are always tasty, but don't forget to save room for one of the many desserts!

Great food, great service. I loved the king salmon & halibut filets special: it was to die for. My only regret is that I had no room for or of their homemade desserts.

Uh, yeah. Eat here. So good. Our last visit we started with fresh local oysters on the half shell and some grilled shrimp. The homemade sauces they brought with them were amazing, and I struggle to recall when I have had shrimp so perfectly grilled. As soon as we heard the specials I knew I was going to have the lamb chops. They were rubbed with Indian spices and served over an amazing curry sauce and rice. The combination of flavors was sublime, to say the least. My wife had "Dave's twisted fettuccine" which is tossed with a variety of fresh seafood. It looked and smelled as good as it tasted. Service was very attentive and everything was excellent. Yeah, it's not cheap, but Homer has a lot of expensive restaurants, most of which don't deliver bang for your buck. When you eat at Cups, you know where that money went. It went into fresh, high-quality ingredients. Worth it. Same room for desert, if you can. Actually we took ours to go and it was still good hours later when we were finally able to eat it.

One of the best restaurants in town. Lisa & Co. will take care of you. The seafood is fresh and local, and cooked perfectly. Tell them if you have a food allergy and they will work around it. They make their own salad dressing. The wine selection is good and they have the best beer on tap: Homer Brewing. Make a reservation, or sit at the bar with a drink and wait for a table.

We were in Homer for the Winter King tournament. 4 of us went to cups for dinner on Friday. We had a reservation but called and they happily postponed it for 1/2 hour. The oysters (both raw & baked) were awesome again. One person had the lamb special and it was cooked to perfection. We were all so full we couldn't order dessert. The only thing that could make cups better is mixed drinks! The food is delectable.

Once again, eating all over the country I am forced to rate based on my country wide rating, not local. This is a great local place, it is a five for homer, based on the menu variety, freshness of local seafood and product, and homey comfortable atmosphere. Yes, it is spendy for local food, but it is mo-fresh than average. The service was spotty, the three times we've been there, we go there when we get bored in the winter, and make a road trip to homer to see old friends, and check out the great local art. I figured out the spotty part of the service, We mildly commented on the stressed, out, running around, hectic, manic, behavior of our server to another server...the server mentioned....ahhh " that is the owner" I suspect the reviews mentioning service are related to her, at least she is trying, but she isn't my kind of person.. The food is good, it is a country wide three, and a homer five. I liked their lasagne, oysters, and my wife had a totally awesome soup there last we went. Whaddya expect for homer? I don't think the locals would patronize a place that spent the money to fly in daily fresh food from california, mexico, and omaha. Its a balance and I think the owner is doing her best.( thus the stressed out demeanor) Give it a shot, its worth it, and outsiders....did you really think that alaska has a corner on the market for food? you didn't come here for that, you came for that scenery out the window. If it ain't halibut, or oysters, we don't serve california style food, and quit expecting it unless you go to anchorage in the summer when they have the volume to support that.

The whimsical decor hints at the inspired, delicious, and eclectic offerings to be had at Cups. The dinning room was full and lively. The wait staff was helpful, competent, and timely. The food was as I stated earlier inspired and delicious. I plan on making Cups a regular destination when I visit Homer.

Made a reservation here for dinner on a trip to Homer...the food was pretty good. Service was horrendously slow - we waited almost 30min to get our card taken back for payment. Meanwhile, our server (which was really 3 different people because it kept changing) was making clearing tables a priority...but there was no one waiting to be seated? And that's not even mentioning our service during dinner. Wouldn't return.

My husband and I had an excellent meal last night. He had a coconut, seafood linguine dish, which he totally appreciated. I had the halibut grilled fish tacos and wasn't at all disappointed.... Especially good with the house hot sauce on top. There were diverse, interesting and reasonable wines by the glass. We sat at the bar and enjoyed chatting with the owner and other wait staff....all friendly, efficient and incredibly busy. We'd recommend trying Cups Cafe if you are in Homer.

Wow, we had a fantastic dinner here. We both had the fish special in which you pick up to 3 different fishes. I had salmon and halibut, and my dinner partner had rockfish. All were spectacular. The salads and dessert were great too. Great wine list and beer list. Weird that this place doesn't have better ratings on Yelp, given what we experienced.

One of Homer's best by far. My parents LOVE it and so do I. Great atmosphere you can't find anywhere else in Homer. The chef knows his stuff. The staff positions there are highly coveted by locals. The "diet" burger (double cheese, extra mayo, 1/2 lb. burger...suggested drink: diet coke) used to be my meal of choice before I became a pescetarian. Now it's the fish tacos. Great beer and wine.

We had an amazing meal here last night. The atmosphere is very homey and cute. The food was excellent, such creative combinations of flavors. Their specials are based on what ever fresh and local ingredients they can get that day. I ordered only off the specials menu and am still happy and glowing from this meal a day later. Oysters baked with blueberries and parmesan... wow! Pork tenderloin with pickled onion sweat relish stuff that was amazing! key-lime cheese cake... need i say more? My sister ordered ribs and steak fries, and we both agreed that their fries are the best we'd ever had. I highly recommend this slow food gem if you are in Homer and want to enjoy a full dinner experience. We had to wait a while for a table so I recommend you call ahead for reservations. This is a restaurant to enjoy slowly, each course building anticipation for the next. Our total meal (including our wait for a walk-in table) took 2.5 hours. We enjoyed every minute of it. If you want something cheap and quick, go somewhere else. If you want to have a meal to remember, reserve a table at Cups!

Don't listen to the detractors, there's a reason that we locals almost universally call Cups our favorite place to eat out in Homer. Get one of the specials, preferably fish, a bottle of wine, and don't skip desert.

  • Karen L.

Service here is very poor and the food is priced high and yet is only average. Be prepared to wait a long time to be seated, to have your order taken, to get drink refills and to pay your bill. Only the kitchen has fast service. Don't listen to the locals' recommendations - this is a "no go" place. Take a photo of the outside - but don't go inside.

I've been here a few times because all of the locals say it's "so good." I come from a big city with amazing food and this place disappoints every time. The shouting hostess and the mediocre food always leaves me frustrated. I am a foodie and the food here is just not good.

Food was tasty fresh and delicious. Especially the habanero vinaigrette salad dressing. Really liked the pico topping for my halibut that had fresh strawberries. The decor of the restaurant was adorable!!

You can choose anything you crave, from pasta with raspberry chipotle sauce, to fillet Mignon, to grilled salmon and halibut with fresh chile salsa, but please don't waste everybody's time by getting a burger. how boring. The atmosphere is quirky, cute and kind of feminine. Yes, of course the "cups" theme is a little in-your-face. Be prepared to shell out some money here. My salmon and shrimp were cooked perfectly and tossed with pasta in an eggplant cream sauce...heaven. Definitely don't skip dessert...Maybe take it to go...huge portion sizes!

We were trying to avoid the clip joints on the spit and wandered up into town looking for something casual but yummy. This certainly fit the bill. We had no reservations and even though it was a Friday, the (fairly harried) staff scoped out the floor and gave us a 5 minute estimate for a table. It took 8 minutes but they are not in command of a table full of guests so no biggie. It was more than we were planning to spend for dinner that evening, but the smells were enticing and I saw a guy at the bar receiving his "roast rack" which looked stupendous so we waited and listened to the specials and my wife and I split a prime rib and our nine year old daughter had the pasta special, (local, wild) mushroom sauce with salmon, clams and shrimp. Our guest also had the pasta and we brought in a bottle of wine as we were visiting from wine country. There was no corkage since they didn't have the wine on their list so they opened and poured for us for free. The food was excellent, my prime rib was tender and prepared just as I ordered it and the pasta sent my daughter into fits of ecstasy. The mashed potato side was a little peppery, but the steak fries (discs) were top notch. An afterthought piece of garnish-y squash on the plate was actually edible and tender. While the staff seemed a little overwhelmed by how busy the place was, they tried valiantly to provide good service, only slipping now and then as they did nine things at once. I highly recommend Cafe Cups to any and sundry, but remember, it ain't cheap.

Second time we have been there and that is the last. One of us had special pork roast which was dry and potatoes tasteless. Fish tacos unremarkable and ribs just average. Don't mind high prices if food is good but not. On the positive salad dressings were very good and the decor was nice.

I can't comment on the food because we decided we had been ignored long enough and went elsewhere. All the locals recommended this place, but maybe they aren't ignored. It's one thing for a restaurant staff to be busy and not get to you, but this place is small and there were several staff members coming and going close by, but no one seemed interested in letting us know when we could be seated. If you like snobbery, then this may be the place for you. We ended up at Fresh Catch Cafe on the Spit and enjoyed an excellent crab dinner.

When I have visitors come in from out of state, or when I have a special date to celebrate, or just a special guy I want to date ... THIS is where we go! The food is out of this world great gourmet, the wine list is perfect, the seating is a little bit squashed on busy nights but who notices when you are all having such fun? Something magic happens when you walk past the artistic exterior, decorated with ceramic mosaics, you find that there are no strangers inside! Everyone is having fun, tasting each other's specials, and chatting away about everything under the midnight sun. The wait staff has always been professional and courtious, but without that pretentious way that some places have of almost forcing you to up your tab to buy buy buy this special dish or that one ...The decor inside is not exactly trendy but bordering on Alaskan Trendy, if you know what that is! Colorful, tasteful, with a splash of kitsch here and there. I go back again and again, always happy they stay so busy, because it means when I want to go back AGAIN ... they'll be there!

Came in early for dinner w/o reservations on a Saturday night. We were promptly seated by the genial owner/hostess. She is a hoot, a no nonsense kinda gal who runs a very tight ship. The exterior decor of the cafe gives a hint of the wonderful color and whimsy on the inside. Surrounding the front door is a tile mosaic made up of found objects such as wine bottles in mid pour, beads of many colors and jaunty salmon in bright red vests for the spawn. We started the meal with succulent Kachemak oysters on the half shell. The oysters were artfully plated on frozen rounds of beach glass, beautiful to look at. The dish came with a home made cocktail sauce flavored with smokey ancho chili. The combination of complementary flavors was a knock out. The freshly baked bread made with rosemary and crusted with sea salt is made on site and is so delicious that one may find themselves full before the entrees arrive. The wine list is small but thoughtfully selected, with many good chardonnays and pinot noir to choose from, among other varietals. The local brews are also well represented. Since salmon is king 'round these parts, we chose a second appetizer to the oysters, a silver salmon sampler done three ways: salmon ceviche served on a bed of crisp pickled fresh vegetables--spicy bite & piquant vinegar-- home cured gravlax with crisp toast and richly smoked salmon chunks. Absolutely delicious. Next came the house salads. The choice of inventive dressings such as cilantro ancho vinaigrette and creamy chive-shallot, made the local greens snap with savoury goodness. When the entrees arrived we were glad to have taken the advice of locals who told us to bypass the regular menu and go straight to the specials. We enjoyed char grilled halibut and salmon served atop saffron rice, with a local blueberry/tomato salsa on the side. The fish was so fresh that it needed no adornment, although the salsa was a fine addition. The second entree featured a delicately roasted yellow rock fish fillet, lightly glazed with a thyme/tomato sauce. Fire roasted fennel, carrot, parsnip, and acorn squash provided an earthy counterpoint to the sweet white fish. The food was outstanding with ingenious combinations of texture and flavor--delectable from start to finish--a perfect end to a great day in Homer.

Just went to this place tonight and overall was satisfied. It seems like a lot is closed in Homer during this time of year but this was one of the few that remained open- and I can understand why. I had the pasta with the raspberry chipotle sauce (Dave's Twisted something?). The flavor of the sauce was a little on the bland side, but the fish that was in it (halibut and salmon) was just great. My friend had a pasta with salmon, clams and shrimp in a basil kind of sauce and I was jealous - the sauce was really good! Anyway, the service was good and refills were abundant (no extra charge). The salad and bread that came with the meal were yummy too! Word of advice - the place got hammered around 6:30/7pm so if you're coming in the summer I'd try to make reservations, since it seems super popular with the locals.

Great food! Pretty spendy. Attention parents: If your child orders a hamburger, the staff probably won't warn you that you will not receive a kid hamburger. My 5 yr old daughter did this and received a HUGE burger smothered in 2 kinds of cheese with bacon and a plate full of potato "discs". She only ate about 4 bites and wouldn't touch the 'taters as they didn't "look" like fries. Burger was about $14, tax not included. I'll share the blame as I didn't ask, but wish they had warned me.
