Having lived in Mexico, the delicious food at Miguel's is the most authentic Mexican food I have had in the U.S. I highly recommend their restaurant.

We were a bit concerned when we entered Miquels on a Saturday night and saw only one table occupied but we were determined to give them a shot. We started with the cheese dip which was basically a Velveeta type sauce that wasn't too great. We snacked at it, alternating between the dip and the salsa which was equally not the greatest we'd ever had. But when our meals came, everything changed. My Chimichanga with the optional mole sauce on it was excellent. It was stuffed with ground beef and cheese and topped with lettuce, a red spicy sauce (the mole) and good amounts of sour cream and guacamole. My partner got the Pastor tacos and thought the meat was a bit tough. When I tried them, the taste was good but the meat was indeed tough from what appeared to be from the meat being quite a bit dried out. The flavor was good but could've been a bit juicier. The lots of cilantro helped but Miquels needs to work on their sauces (guacamole which was bland and practically tasteless, a real cheese dip and learning that salsa is more than tomatoes and onions). But don't get me wrong, we liked them more than the more popular Mexican restaurant in town.

This establishment may not be as "authentic" as they come but I order the a la carte pork on corn tortillas with pico de gayo every time and it's amazing every time. I also order my margarita's traditional. Meaning the only thing going into them is high quality Tequila, Triple Sec and lime. They're happy to make it that way at your request. The salsa was chunky and fresh which doesn't seem to come from a jar as suggested in previous reviews, so maybe they've changed that. My family has really enjoyed their quesadillas every time as well. The service has been good and the only thing that gets to me is the smell of smoke coming from the bar area. Other than that I will continue to enjoy my margaritas and a la carte's here.

Had not been here for years but when I did the food was really good and the service was friendly. So we went back again. The lady at the register literally ignored us for 10 minutes while we stared at her so we left. Miguel, you are not doing your business any favors with staff like this. We probably will be back in 6 months hoping this lady is gone

I love this place! It's the only place I go for Mexican in town, service is always great, food is always delicious. We eat here at least once a week!

We were here for a banquet style event in the little private room of the restaurant. Our dinner was actually a prime rib meal, and although it felt a little odd to be eating prime rib at a Mexican place among the sombreros and such it was quite excellent. All of the employees were very friendly, and the service was great for us.

In general, it was "literally ok". I mean, it's pretty decent Mexican food. I ate it and enjoyed it, so there is nothing to complain about. Except my water was never refilled even though I slathered chipotle sauce over my fajita and was basically left to die at my table. Other than RIP me, it gets a standard "literally basic Mexican food ok" rating from me.

For Fairbanks, this is certainly good Mexican food. It's more of American-Mexican fusion, but the food and service was great nonetheless. If you're looking for a place to hang out casually and have a decent meal, this is the place.

Best Mexican in Fairbanks! Large portions and somewhat decent prices, now when I say "best Mexican in Fairbanks" it should almost have an asterisk next to it because being the best when everything else sucks isn't saying much but this place really is good. It gets 5 stars because of the location. Probably a 4 star in the lower 48

It was really great. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly our food came because most places in Fairbanks can be pretty slow. Our waitress was really nice and attentive. The guacamole dip was good. I also ordered fajita quesadillas and a halibut taco a la carte. Both were good. My friend ordered steak fajitas and said the rice was fantastic. Fried cheesecake was great. Would go back again.

Great place. Servers are friendly and quick to serve. Chips are good....salsa is excellent. Make sure to have the Chimichanga. We love ordering off the ala cart menu. Excellent Tequila section and Alaskan Brewing company beers!

This place was nothing to brag about. Being Hispanic and growing up in Texas I know what home cooked Mexican food tastes like. This was not it. I had the fajitas al pastor. There were more onions than meat on my plate. The margaritas was only nothing to rave about. Unfortunately choices on Mexican are limited in Fairbanks.

I love Mexican. Ask any of my friends. I lived in New Mexico and California and Mexican was always at the top of my list. My parents told me Miguel's had opened and had said it was good, so we decided to go out there on my last night of my visit. I was looking forward to it, but unfortunately it did not live up to them at all. First, I love margaritas. When I get Mexican, I want a nice sweet and tart margarita to wash it down. The margarita was, well, unlike any margarita I've ever had. It was a clear green color. Clear. Green. And it just tasted not right. We got some chips, guacamole and salsa to start. The chips were actually pretty good. I make better guacamole. And the salsa, well, it looked like something you'd get in a jar and tasted like it as well. Sad. The chimichanga was nicely fried. The "mole" sauce was boring and flavorless. I love mole and this was not a mole sauce. I know it's a bad night when I have to cover the food with hot sauce to give it any flavor. The hot sauce selection was also uninspired: Tabasco, green Tabasco and chipotle Tabasco. Not authentic hot sauces that's for sure. So Miguel's was severely disappointing. Maybe it was a bad night, but I won't be coming back the next time in town.

upon walking in I was a bit confused as their special sign had enchiladas & turkey & swiss sandwich? I thought this was a Mexican restaurant... I was getting really worried cause of the bad reviews... but my girlfriend lives here and says they come here all the time w/ her work friends so I ignored the reviews and went along. I ordered the taco el pastor and my daughter ordered the burrito w/ shredded chicken. I was waiting for some complimentary chips & salsa but it never came! lol but our food did come, I was pleasantly surprised that it was actually not bad. the only thing that bothered me was that I could smell the smoke coming from the adjoining bar. yuck. but I would go back again for their Mexican food.

This is the best Mexican resturant in Fairbanks and one if not the cheapest, the ribs are one of my favorites but get there early for these as they only cook a small amount every day and when there gone that's it, my wife and I also like the taco el pastor, but there is more on the menu that we like, not as fancy as some resturants in town but the food is good.

Food was ok, i ordered the three tacos combo that came with refrained beans and rice. Chips were old and hard maybe stale. Salsa just plain sucked. The sign outside says authentic Mexican cuisine. The diet Coke was great! The service was fast and friendly.

I am sad to say, this is by far the worst place I have eaten at, since moving to Fairbanks. The chips were hard and tasted like a cheap, stale chip you get from a store and the salsas were bland. I was highly disappointed in the queso, it is by far the worst I have ever had at a restaurant. Even my four year old, who loves cheese dip (almost an addiction), wouldn't even eat it. My quesadilla was decent and my son's burger was just that, a child's plain burger. However, I will not be returning. I couldn't believe that the restaurant had half of their seats full. I do not like to be a pessimist, but do not waste your money here. Save yourself the trouble and money, and go to Gallo's or Taco King even.

Actually hot salsa, love that. The cook comes out to ask if ur doin alright every time I've been. Food is alright, I'll stop if I'm closest to there. somethin is missing, haven't pinned it down, but I will eat there again for sure. A little spendy tho

We had just arrived into Fairbanks from Denali. It was 20 minutes past closing, but the owner could not have been nicer. Seeing our party of 8 tired from the late drive, he asked the kitchen and staff to go ahead and serve us. In addition, because most of us were vegetarians, he personally oversaw all the orders taken by his waitress and made sure she wrote them down right. And luckily, margaritas are vegetarian because they were good! The food was also delicious. Even the one non-veg in our party really enjoyed the fish tacos. They do charge for chips and salsa, even just the salsa by itself, which I found nowhere else to be true in Alaska. One of these days, I'll be back to see the northern lights and I'll definitely be back at Miguels.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
