I really wanted this place to be good. I was going off the reviews and the pictures and it looked awesome...we got there and thought the place looked cool, sat down and we ordered potato skins as an appetizer,, then I got what I thought was a steak sandwich and my husband got some steak dinner. It was not good for either of us...my "sandwich" was a steak filet that was well done and ugly steamed vegetables that weren't fresh. My husbands steak was well done and it was awful. Just plain awful...the only pro was our server was nice and attentive. Ivory jacks isn't worth the drive or the food. The pictures are really deceiving....because the cooks cannot cook a steak...if you have to put steak sauce on a steak while you're eating it..the cook messed up. We won't be back or make the drive. Plus it was $70!!!!!! My husband has made better steaks at home!!

Updated. Went back cause I happened to be working in that area again and not much around there food wise. Got the chicken strips basket and a coke. Cost me 16 bucks with a tip but the service was still lacking. Food was much better the second time around but still pricey. Food was mediocre for the price. Soup and salad plus a coke, not even a beer and it cost me 20 bucks. For a salad I could have made myself at my hotel or got at Fred Meyer's salad bar for cheaper and the clam chowder was nasty. Like how it says smokers to the right non smoking to the left but there is no actual separation in the restaurant for it to matter. This is definitely a locals place and if you're not one, as I am here just for work for a while, feels a little awkward. Had a young lady who looked like she'd be drinking too long that day try to spark up conversation but only seemed to want to because no one else at the bar seemed to want to talk to her at the moment. For having to wait as long as I did for the soup to "be ready" as the bartender/waitress put it, was cold and not at all worth it. But when you don't know the area and need to eat what are you gonna do. Maybe had I ordered something else it wouldn't have been as bad, but wasn't about to drop over 20 bucks on lunch which I kinda ended up doing anyways after tipping. Cause despite the food being lackluster, the bartender was pleasant and mostly attentive to me even though a kind of large group of locals she was friends with came in as I was finishing up.

Ivory Jack's remains the heart of the Goldstream community. Great beer & drink selection, and good space for socializing or private conversations. Food is mostly standard frozen and fried bar&grill food, but it's prepared with love. Generally great, personable service. It's one of the remaining few Fairbanks' restaurants with indoor smoking. Several big TVs for sports. The BBQ chicken sandwich I had recently was cooked perfectly, tender & moist. Good sweet potato fries and onion rings. The large Hawaiian pizza was tasty, good crust, great flavorful sauce and good toppings...but a bit pricy at $29. However the dining area and bathrooms are pretty grungy, so I wonder about the kitchen. Also, they could take down half of the sports memorabilia and liquor signs and the walls would still be overcrowded!

One of the best bars/restaurants in town. The decor is fun -- sports memorabilia and all kinds of crazy things cover the walls. The beer is good. The food is excellent. Burgers and bar fare are very common in Fairbanks, but out of all the options, Ivory Jacks is the best. Definitely not to be missed.

Really liked the fried Halibut basket. Great selection of beers, and food. Liked how it ranged from fresh local seafood to a few angus beef burger selections. Forest scenery is a super plus.

Horrible service. The servers were joking with the kitchen staff while we sat at the bar waiting for drink, food or anything. Friday night in a place with the five working tables and no service is a fail. Not to worry, Ivory Jacks. I'm never coming back.

We weren't so sure about Ivory Jacks but decided to give them a shot after seeing some of the pics on Yelp. When we entered, we ended up sitting on the smoking side of the restaurant - not realizing that there was a smoking and non-smoking side. It's literally one side versus the other. But thankfully there weren't a bunch of puffers in there. I got the nachos for dinner and my partner got the ribs. I was surprised that the nachos were like big triangles of maybe pita or something similar, single stacked with cheese and hamburger (not taco meat) and other toppings. They were good but not the pile o chips I was expecting with loads of slop on them. My partners full rack of ribs was crazy big. We ate half of it and took the other half home. We were thinking a full rack would be like a few ribs left for leftovers but it's like a double portion of their ribs. Crazy, I tell ya! We weren't disappointed with our meal but weren't really impressed either. It seems like a locals place and if you're not a local, you're not overly welcomed.

Sorry guys, I just don't get it. First thing you'll notice: that familiar sting in your eyes. Apparently there are still places in 2014 America where you can smoke cigarettes! I haven't felt that in years (college)! I don't smoke, but I actually think it should be up to business owners, not governments, to decide if smoking is allowed in their establishments. I should first say that I went here hungry, and they weren't serving the full menu, only fried items. No biggie, I'd get some fried halibut. It was mostly a thick carapace of batter with puny halibut meat in the middle, and it didn't come with fries, and it was about $18, and I was still hungry afterwards. They do have pretty good beers on tap here, and they are open late. The bartenders are friendly, but really, really slow. It's not good when there are 7-10 people at the bar casually hanging out, and you're dry for a solid 10 minutes. I did see the Northern Lights as soon as I left though! #silverlining

Garlic bread over cooked. Waitress wasn't here for customers, she was here to socialize! So took 20 mins for us to get menu... Then cheese was over melted on cheese burger. Best thing was the crispy fries, we won't be back for a while.

The food was great, but it took over an hour from the time we sat down & ordered till we actually got our food. I had the prime rib w/baked potato & crab legs. The baked potato & crab was amazing, but I had ordered my prime rib medium well and it came out rare/medium rare. The restaurant itself is more on the loud side. There is a TON of NY Yankees, Yukon Quest, and Elvis memorabilia on the walls. As there is a liquor store attached, they have quite the selection of beer & spirits. If you're down for a good beverage & a bite to eat while you watch a game or kick back with your friends, this is a good place to do it.

Super Gluten free friendly!!! From outside looks like hole in the wall bar & inside isn't much better- but the food makes it so worth it. Had the Philly Cheese-stake with gluten free bread, could have had anything. Husband had the steak. Both were so delicious we just couldn't believe it.

On my travels I always document the cuisine as I am a Foodie. Nothing sets my heart wandering like Ivory Jacks in Fairbanks, Alaska. The atmosphere, with sports memorabilia, oddities, Elvis, local flair and Alaska history added a rustic flavor to the "log-cabin-esque" aura of the establishment. The place reeks of Alaska and the regulars who frequent are a nice bunch of folks. Starting with the sampler platter consisting of chicken strips, breaded mushrooms, fried zucchini sticks and fried shrimp, it was a precursor to the glory that was to come. I came to Ivory Jacks with crab legs on my mind. And crab legs did I feast upon. The finest, heartiest, meatiest crab legs I ever did have. The sea provided me a feast of meal that day. The Alaskan King Crab Legs, a whopping 1 1/2 pounds, came with a lemon crown, butter, bread and baked potato. My belly was full. My mind was at peace. I left Ivory Jacks with an even greater appreciation for Fairbanks, and, honestly, Alaska in general. I suggest you visit. You'll be glad you did.

Awesome atmosphere, the food was too greasy for my taste but we only ordered bar food, nothing off the dinner menu. I'm sure dinner is different. Bartender was really great; we'll definitely be back.

Cold food, over cooked fries, burnt chicken and not to mention the what would appear to be a pubic hair in my husbands mashed potatoes. We will never come back. Paid for the food (minus the hair plate) and stopped for fast food on the way home.

A fun place to grab a beer and a burger in the Goldstream Valley.

As an out of towner whose friends were intent on my having a very Alaskan visit, they took me here. Be sure to read the poem on your place mat for a chuckle. Service was somewhat spotty - while we were a fairly large party, the place wasn't all that busy. However, our waitress was a bit hard to get hold of when people wanted things and we had to be somewhere by a certain time. The stuffed mushrooms were zingy (I admit I'm a wuss about spicy foods), and the halibut was fresh, massive and the wild rice was excellent. If the Elusive Waitress had been on form, we might have sprung for dessert, but it was not to be.

This place is famous in Fairbanks for the atmosphere. The people are nice, friendly, and extremely Alaskan. There are regulars and new people who come in everyday. The things on the wall never get old, there are articles, posters, sports paraphernalia, and lots of Elvis. They have bands about once a weekend, but usually after they stop serving dinner. There is so some great gluten free pizza and gluten free burgers!
