About TGI Friday
TGI Friday is a casual dining American restaurant chain founded in 1965. The term “TGI” is an acronym for Thank God It's and together the name of the restaurant is often announced as Thank God It's Friday. Over the years of its existence, the TV commercials and other advertisement streams have also twisted the phrase a bit and used it as Thank Goodness It's Friday. The restaurant serves alcoholic beverages primarily. However, they are also known for their low-carbohydrate and low-fat menu items to promote a healthy lifestyle. Honestly, the service seemed a bit slow, then again I only see three wait staff for about 10 tables and a dozen or so chairs with bar seating, and at a peak lunch time. Get your order in when asked as the girls are pretty busy. When the order was placed the food came out pretty quickly, nice and hot. The fries are great, the hot sandwiches are good, the cold sandwiches are so-so. There isn't much vegetarian options other than a couple of salads. The beer selection has a lot of Alaskan beers, Hoodoo is on tap, which is worthy a star in its own right.

We stopped into Friar Tuck's to grab a steak and cheese and maybe something else that would grab our attention for dinner. We decided to get the 1/2 order of cheese fries and after quite a long wait, our fries arrived. We polished them off long before our meals arrived and left us wishing we'd gotten the full order. My partner got the steak and cheese with mushrooms. It was more bread than steak and was very, very dry, not to mention the lack of actual edible steak. It seemed like each bite I had was some sort of grizzly, tendony piece of yuck. My partner ordered a side of mayonnaise to help it out a bit but it just wasn't fixable. My chicken wings were pretty good though. It was weird that they were all dummies but I polished them off with 1/2 the order buffalo sauce and the other half bbq. The spicy sauce they advertised, they no longer have. With plenty of TVs around the dining room, it will probably serve as one of the place we go to to watch sports and indulge on more of the fries.

Great place! It's one of the hidden gems of Fairbanks. Although new to the scene (est. 2014), they are up and running smoothly. Have a glass of pineapple water or a brew of your choice while you wait. It's a small establishment but with a warm, local vibe nonetheless. The service is friendly and down to earth. Local beers from HooDoo are available as well as a wine variety. With 5 flat screens there are plenty of great views for your game. Prices are reasonable and the food is well worth it! Absolutely delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed the food, environment and service.

Well if we're going just by how the food tasted then I'd say it's an excellent place to grab a cheese steak. Although the service lacked a bit. I think it took them 15 min to come take our order and another 40 min for the food to get to us.

Won't go back....service was horrible. We were seated right away, but then left for 15 minutes with nothing. Shame on me for saying nothing.....I guess I just kept hoping they would get it right. I was terribly disappointed in Friar Tucks. I was told that they had good food. I went at a slow time before the dinner rush thinking I would get good service. Boy was I surprised! I was rushed to get my order by not one but two servers before I could even look over the menu? So I ordered a sandwich to go without even taking the time to finish looking over the menu completely. I was told that the sandwich would be ready in 2 minutes or less. 15 minutes later after watching my sandwich set on the counter for 5 minutes I was finally brought my sandwich. It was small and had very little meat and as far as I can tell less than a sliver of cheese you could read a book through! Subway has better for less than half the price. Save your time and money and go elsewhere.

We've been here every couple weeks since September and the food is fabulous! We moved here from Atlanta and it is the ONLY place worth eating at in Fairbanks! Food is consistently excellent and service is great! We've tried just about every hot sandwich they offer and they are all delicious!

The hoagie rolls are awesome. You can tell they are fresh. French onion soup is the worst I've ever had and I gave it two chances. You don't chew French onion soup, I'm just saying. Kind of disappointed with the wine selection but the beers are more than adequate. I always have to wait a really long time for my food and the apps are meager and overpriced. I keep coming back because at the very least the hoagies are worth it but it takes forever. I really really think the wait staff needs some training. Or replaced. Unless you're a guy you are treated rudely and the conversations they carry on behind the bar have made me very uncomfortable, I certainly would not feel comfortable discussing my sex life at my place of work for anyone to hear. 1. It's inappropriate. 2. People are eating. The things we tolerate for a mediocre meal experience out of the house...

I've had the restaurant get orders wrong, the Marinara that they serve with any of their Parmesan meals is not good and is super salty, and I've had to wait for servers to come back for 45 minutes.

Ordered up a half order of cheese fries and a Po Boy roll. Po Boy was not the typical po boy, but good. In this case a cheese steak style sandwich but made with chicken, ham, and sausage with hot cheese and spices in a roll. The fries were covered with a hot cheese with beer sauce, garlic spiced and fresh chopped green onions. Pretty good. The rest of the menu looked good and original. A good selection of a half dozen beers on tap were all from Alaskan breweries along with ten wines, which is different. As for service, for a light evening with two servers it was OK but could be better.

The hot hoagies are full of flavor! My husband and I like to take our time when we dine so the slow service doesn't really bother us, as long as our glasses never run dry! We love beer and enjoy the atmosphere at Friar Tucks! We have been coming at least once a month since they opened and every time the food has been great! The fries are out of this world and the fried pickles are THE BEST! They make their ranch dressing in house and it is the best I've ever had. The cheese fries are good - I'm not a fan of IPA beers so the tanginess of the cheese isn't my favorite - I actually prefer the cheese on my fried pickles over the fries! **There are only a few things that I would change: Add a sign that says "Seat Yourself", waiting 5 minutes for a waitress to seat you in a tiny cramped entry way isn't fun. We've learned to seat ourselves. I've seen multiple parties walk out after standing for a few minutes when there were open tables because there isn't a hostess or someone strictly stationed at the front. The bread is delicious but it would be nice if the outer crust was slightly crispy and less chewy. The bread falls apart and would be more enjoyable if it was slightly toasted(even for a minute). If I could have my sandwich on bread from Speedy's subs it would make it THE BEST hot sandwich I've ever had. Bread should be soft and airy on the inside with a slight crustiness on the outside. Add some newer beer selections. Add some new items to your menu or create a "Specials" board! I would LOVE to try something besides the same subs that have been on the menu since opening. The Tucks roll is our favorite but a variation that adds bacon or different cheeses, and a variety of toppings would be nice! ... Maybe add a create your own roll section where guests can pick 1 meat and x amount of items from each section of cheeses or veggies. On another note: The service is friendly except for 1 waitress with the funky styled hair. She is always short and looks pissed off while working. If you don't want to be there, don't come to work. Whenever an item has been cold or messed up, it has quickly been fixed without question and that is what makes or breaks customer service these days. I am BEYOND glad that Friar Tucks has good customer service. With a more extensive menu we would definitely visit more frequently!

Love Friar Tucks, whether it be the Po Boy or the French Dip, I can't get enough of this place. It has been a huge success with my co-workers. I would give the food a five any day of the week. My only concern is the service and getting a warm meal. The service staff disappears in to the Twilight Zone during the meal. The food usually comes out cold. The server forgets to bring out the check. Even after you request the check. This is not a big food joint. So the disappearing server blows my mind.

People in Fairbanks are simple people. Meat and potatoes folks. Salt of the Earth. Notice how i said Fairbanks, and not North Pole...those people are animals, and we should build a wall around our fair city, and defend that wall (as the Game of Thrones nerds would say). I don't know why this made me think of Friar Tuck's, but a review needs an intro, and whats better than trashing the little brother "city?" Yeah, nothing. I guess i used the simple analogy because that's what the food was. No frills, and fairly basic. Not that there's anything wrong with that. My pops and I went here one afternoon on our annual visit back to the motherland...a visit where i see which of my friends are still trying to be rap stars, which ones have gotten fat, and which ex-girlfriends ended up with a said man of the North Pole in a marriage that's crumbling. Its all very bitter sweet...just like a fine IPA. Anyways, we went during lunch, and the place isn't very big, and there were only about a dozen people in the joint. Its nice and clean though, and there are TVs on sports channels to look at. Tip though, maybe turn on the sound on the TVs, and turn off the teen, pop, techno that was blasting. We're old men looking to drink, and watch sports. The whole music selection is quite confusing. We seated ourselves, and a nice lady took our drink order. I got a local beer from silver gulch that was pretty good. I ordered the Po Boy sandwich, and I forgot what my dad got. Took a bit for the sandwiches to come out being that it wasn't that busy. I'm ok with that though, cause it gives you a chance at that key second beer. Real drinkers know what i'm talking about. My sandwich came out after said second beer, and it was OK. It was chicken, cajun spices, cheese, onions, in a hoagie roll. It was fairly decent sized. It reminded me of the cheese steaks at Jay Bird's Wing World. More of cheese chicken sandwich than Po Boy. No sides come with the sandwiches so if you want something like fries you have to order them separately. Kid next to our table had some cheese fries, and they look aight, but who knew you had to order them. How about a bag of chips and a pickle? So, its about $12 for a sandwich and nothing else. Place is ok. Not bad, but not great. Server was nice enough, and the place is clean. Just not anything I'm going to go out of my way to again when I come back into town to judge my old peers. Salute people!

Service is extremely slow and in inattentive. My husband had to refill my drink because the waitress hadn't been by our table in a very long time. Someone from the kitchen just informed us after 45 minutes after we arrived that they had skipped our ticket and our meal would be free. The food was good and it was nice that they comped our meal BUT we won't be going back on a lunch hour. I don't like telling my boss I'm going to be late :(

The only problem is it is high priced, $13 for a sandwich and an extra $2.50 for a handful of fries. If they were big a big sandwich it would be ok. I understand Alaska prices are higher and the food they make is better quality then subway or any other chain sandwich places. Good sandwich shops are hard to find but the prices here will keep me from going all the time. Don't get me wrong the food is amazing and I will be returning. Other people said the wait times were long I have been three different times and did not have the same experience. The French onion soup is superb, we have yet to get something there that isn't amazing, I'm afraid the prices may turn me into an every so often customer instead of a once a week customer.

So we went there this past weekend and our food was great the only thing that was disappointing was we got there at least 15-20 minuets before a couple who sat right next to us at the counter. They got their whole meal appetizers and sandwiches before us. Even though we ordered first and ordered the exact same sandwiches. I was kind of shocked and kind disappointed that someone after us would get their food and be nearly done by the time we got our-even though we were there first. Once they got their sandwiches I kept looking at the clock and it was another 10-15 minutes after we got ours. I posted my dissatisfaction on the Rants, Raves, and reviews Facebook page and Keri Roach (owner) reached out and apologized for the bad experience. She offered her number for me to call and explain, which I did and she offered compensation. Let me tell you I in NO way expect HANDOUTS OR FREEBIES. I called her and spoke to her briefly (I got the feeling she wasn't expecting me to call and I didn't get to really explain fully because it was such a quick conversation and I sensed nervousness in her voice). She offered to make it up and I was happy to take her offer (I wasn't going to throw myself at the chance at free stuff/food) but she said she would take my info and we would receive a coupon I guess from my understanding. I don't know how she expects me to get anything out of that because she didn't get my email, mailing address, didn't give me her address or tell me to come to the restaurant or anything. It was basically an idle offer...I only had a bad experience with food wait other than that everything was good. When there is a problem though and you're made an offer from the owners count on it being pointless. If I was re-offered the "offer" I wouldn't take it. Thanks for "trying" friar tucks. I am not upset, pissed, mad or even annoyed...just don't make an offer and its pointless-shows me you can stand to lose my business.

So I hemmed and hawed over whether to give this a five-star review or a four-star. If this place were not in Fairbanks, it would earn a four-star ... and that is saying something. I don't give out good reviews very often in this town of not-so-good food for a foodie like myself. The reason I hesitated on the additional star is based solely on price. $12 for a roll (I HIGHLY recommend the Tucks Roll) seems steep, but it is REALLY good. $2 for a side. I love the fried pickles (full order is $6) and the beer cheese dip with fries ($6 for a full order, $4 for half). Both my boys ordered Po Boys and declared them delicious. I know that they had issues when they first opened and they let the manager go and hired a new one. My water glass was never empty and I felt as if I had gotten excellent service. My food didn't take long at all. Maybe 15 minutes? To the one-star reviewer- were you smoking crack or did you maybe hear the guy wrong? I wouldn't WANT to eat at a place that said my food would be ready in TWO minutes. 30 minutes is about when I may start to get restless and watching out for my server. Not 15. Anyway, they slice the meat there and make the meatballs daily. The new manager told me he had some plans involving wing nights and being open for Monday night football he said something about a percent off for wearing pink on some night ... I don't remember what he said about that because I hadn't finished my roll and it was calling to me. Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend giving this place a shot. I've been here TWICE in one week :)

Tried to have lunch here but never got to eat. After waiting 45 minutes we asked about our order and told the waiter that we had to leave in 10 minutes. The waiter checked with the kitchen then came out and said our food will be out soon. Next I see the manager deliver food to a table that just sat down. After that we gave up and left. Also left to take my daughter to the restroom and when we returned to our seat my husband said they tried to clear drinks from our area at the bar without even asking if someone was sitting there. The boy who works at the front is completely useless. He ignores customers and takes his time cleaning tables and seating customers. The food is good (we have eaten there once begore) but the majority of the employees do not take the job seriously which really makes the experience there horrible. Better off just ordering food to go or going somewhere else.

If I could give this place ten stars, I'd give it 12. I have been there numerous times, and every time, the staff have always been happy, helpful, but also busy. People need to remember that good food doesn't just "appear" in front of you. Their melt in your mouth hoagies, along with the HooDoo beer on tap, keep me craving this place. By far one of the best restaurants in Fairbanks, and that's saying a lot compared to the options available. The 1 star reviews for Friar Tucks should not in any way prevent you from trying it, because you will miss out on an excellent place to eat. Give it shot and decide for yourself.

Great service and amazing food. Our meal came much quicker than expected. The fresh hoagie rolls were delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good hearty meal and great beer from HooDoo.

Starting off on a positive note, I did enjoy my sandwich and soup. I had the Loxley's Mushroom Steak Roll and with French Onion Soup. The bread was fantastic and very fresh. It was stuffed with plenty of meat and cheese with a delightful flavor. The soup was very tasty and not greasy at all. There were nice big chunks of onion along with a good portion of bread and cheese on top. Unfortunately the service and atmosphere need a great deal of work. First off, the music was so loud that I had difficulty talking with the people at my table. Management might be a bit confused on what this business is suppose to be: a hoagie shop or a sports bar. With sports running on the numerous TV's around the business, I was somewhat confused also. I wasn't aware Friar Tuck was such a sports fanatic. The service needs a great deal of work, too. I ordered two items and only received one. I had to remind our server that I had ordered soup with my sandwich. Apparently the order was not received by the cook because when it finally arrived I was nearly finished with my sandwich. After the soup was brought to me, we never saw our server again except for the bill being dropped off. Our dirty dishes stayed at our table for more than an hour as I visited with friends. We were never offered any water or drink refills as we chatted. The management has not properly trained their staff at this point and that needs to be rectified if this business plans to stay in business.
