When our two foodie friends came to town I knew exactly where we were going to take them to dinner. Chena's was amazing. We made reservations just in case because if there was a big tour in town I wanted to make sure we had a table. When we got there I realized we didn't need reservations this night. We were seated right away, ordered their nightly drink specials and then were given bread with their homemade fresh pesto, so yummy. We decided on a appetizer, the salmon crème fraîche dip. It was served with pita chips and blue corn chips. I loved it with the blue corn chips. A great balance of sweet, salty and tangy. We asked the waitress a few questions about the three different halibut dishes which she explained well. This helped our friends decide to get the lavender halibut and the halibut special which they said were cooked perfectly and the flavors went together so well. My husband got the salmon special which was one of the best pieces of salmon he has ever eaten and he's from Alaska. I got the bacon wrapped scallops and they melted in my mouth. We will be returning soon.

Great food, great service, quality wine list, affordable price. We had the halibut very fresh, not overdone 5 star. I had the bone in rib eye very good, not at Morton's level but best of Fairbanks. Lasagna excellent. Blackberry lime aid was unique and outstanding. Employees were great Liz outstanding. If you are at a close proximity to the Fairbanks International airport this is the best place to go.

We decided to end our Alaska vacation with a bang and eat at Chena's, and we were not disappointed! It's right along the Chena River, has a huge deck for outdoor eating, but also spacious indoor seating for those hot days. It's both upscale and casual: nice cloth napkins & set ups, yet they have plastic tables & chairs on the deck; the wait staff dresses very professionally, yet there is no dress code for the customers. My favorite part about this restaurant was that they had wine pairing suggestions for almost all of the entrees. Our waitress Cassondra was fantastic as well. She was very personable & knowledgeable. We started with a cup of the Alaskan chowder, ordered the two specialty items for the day for our main dishes, the chimichurri sockeye salmon and the sweet & sour halibut, paired it with the Kung Fu Girl Reisling at the suggestion of our waitress Cassondra, and finished off with the wild berry ice cream & shortcake. They do start you off with half a loaf of sliced bread and olive oil. Their version of Alaskan chowder wasn't bad, but it wasn't my favorite that I've had. Both the halibut & the salmon were phenomenal. Neither one of us had had our entrees prepared in those styles before and the chef/cooks did immaculate jobs at making sure the flavors in the entrees was well-balanced. These entrees didn't have wine pairing suggestions (since they were specials), but Cassondra's suggestion of the Kung Fu Girl Reisling was on point. I was too full to eat an entire dessert by myself, but the few bites of the wild berry ice cream & shortcake were delicious.

I am staying at the hotel next door with my grandma for a cruise tour. I had a blackberry limeade as my drink and it was amazing! We both got the Alaskan seafood chowder to start and that was amazing! I got the special which was a sweet and smokey ribeye with a fantastic Demi glacé and garlic mashed potatoes! For dessert I got apple crisp which was also amazing. The bread that they provide is a fantastic 9 grain with a house made pesto that is to die for. The service was great if I didn't live in California I would definitely go again.

My wife and I arrived in Fairbanks today and were looking forward to a nice meal. We went on Yelp and found the highest rated restaurant, Cheena's Fine Dining and Deck. I called to make a reservation but instead of talking with a live person I had to leave our request for a reservation on an answering machine with the promise my call would be returned. It wasn't. We decided to go to the restaurant and try our luck as a walk in. We were seated promptly and our waiter, William, introduced himself. So far, so good. We both ordered one of the featured entrees, the fresh wild white king salmon. Our house salad came very quickly along with some nice fresh bread. And that is when our troubles began. We waited for over 20 minutes after we finished our salad for our entrees to be brought to us. They were brought to our table by someone other than William. Imagine our surprise when we looked at our dinners and they were very different. Mine was the fresh white king salmon but my wife was presented with a very different salmon dish - which was overcooked and dry. We asked William why we had two different fish when we had ordered the same. He acknowledged a mistake had been made and that my wife had gotten the wrong fish. He did not apologize for the mistake. Rather he blamed it on "the Mexican" working in the kitchen who doesn't "understand my hand signals." We were flabbergasted by the blatant racist comment and even more surprised by not even a hint of an apology. We were then told that there was no more salmon to be had as they had run out (at 7:15 p.m.). William asked if my wife would like to see the menu to order something else. She declined saying she would have the spring rolls that were the featured appetizer on the menu we had seen earlier. She asked William how long it would take to get them since by that time we had been there for over an hour. He said 7 to 10 minutes without so much as an "I will ask them to put a rush on your order." He then returned with the news they had run out of them too - again with no apology for the inconvenience we were experiencing. With that my wife said she just wanted out of the restaurant and we asked for our check. When William brought our check he asked if we would like a complimentary dessert. We said no - just wanting out of there. After taking my credit card and returning there again was not a word of apology or anything else. Even as we walked out obviously very dissatisfied the only "explanation" offered was "the Mexican." I asked the the women greeting people if a manager was on duty. She said she was and that she was working behind the bar. I said I would like to talk to her. The manager then came over and I observed the greeter motioning to us as people who wanted to talk to her. She busied herself for a couple of minutes and then returned to her duties behind the bar without so much as even nodding to us. With that we left never to return again. It was obvious that the restaurant had no interest in listening to our tale of woe. And why should it? The place was packed and it appeared to us that they couldn't care less about customer satisfaction - and especially about customer dissatisfaction. While my fresh salmon was excellent, our overall experience was grossly unsatisfactory. I guess it was all the fault of "the Mexican." Despicable.

Best food and service in Fairbanks!

While the service was friendly and prompt and the view quite nice, the kitchen fell considerably short of "fine dining". "Serviceable" is the best I can offer and "serviceable" would have been just fine if the name had not set other expectations. A nice piece of fresh halibut was so shamefully and obviously overcooked that an expediter, if there was one, should have never sent it to table. While it could have been and should have been sent back, at the later end of a long outdoor day with a small party of friends, it would have set everything off kilter; better to persevere. So if your expectation is of a place to eat supper, you'll be ok at Chena's. If it is for fine dining, you won't.

Wonderful casual elegance. Fresh wild caught Alaskan salmon and halibut. Check out their wine list. Very good wine prices. Don't miss this place while in Fairbanks.

This place was the quality meal we had been longing for in Fairbanks. Nothing over the top or out of the ordinary, but a decently priced, quality tasting meal accompanied by great service and a great atmosphere on the water. Both our meals (citrus garlic prawns and stuffed pork chop) were delicious and very generously portioned. Our table on the deck up against the water was just the atmosphere we were hoping for. Our server Liz was friendly, efficient, and attentive, as were all of the servers and bus boys around us. We would certainly return here.

Salty, salty, salty. We ordered from the "Lighter Fare" menu. Two itty bitty crab cakes and the chowder was in a large bowl, but a half inch deep at most. Did I mention the food was salty? Service was good, nice looking place, but.......

I ordered the fresh halibut and it was excellent. Very fresh and not over seasoned. The only downside was no locals. It would have been nice to have a beer with local Alaskans next to us.

Best pork tenderloin I've ever had. The multigrain bread and pesto they bring you before the meal is really good too. Best food we've had in Alaska yet!
