Every time I go here I get the gyro plate. For lunch, dinner, snack, whatever. It's a gyro but it's served open-face so you can regulate the amount of bread you want to eat. Super, super good. Interestingly enough, the iced tea is extremely excellent too! I have no idea why. It's just great. I really like the staff. Visiting with them is always part of the experience. They're very friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed and great for kids and families. The food arrives quickly, I never have any attention on waiting. The chicken Marsala is also a great dish, but I just can't bring myself to order it when I have a chance to do the gyro plate, with fries. Mmmmm. :)

Bethel is a weird place. It's like North Dakota...if it were a swamp. Yet it has more taxi drivers per capita than Manhattan. It's definitely "off the grid". Luckily, there is a family living here cooking up really great Greek/Italian food. (a local told me they were from...Crete, I think?) Everything here tastes surprisingly fresh and and very tasty, the family that runs it exudes great warmth and friendliness. If you are in Bethel, you MUST eat here. I was in Bethel for a week and dined here twice. Once I got chicken, the other time a pizza. I left happy both times. Food is quality and the portions are large, great way to take the damp chill off. The only downside is that it's pretty expensive. That's to be expected though. All the food had to come in on dogsleds, so I supposed it's relatively cheap in the grand scheme of things. I've heard they close up shop for the winter and go back to the sunny Mediterranean. If you're going to Bethel after labor day (poor you), definitely do your research and/or don't get your hopes up!

CASH ONLY!!! Wish someone would have told me before I got there as I don't tend to carry much cash. Had the spaghetti and homemade meat sauce. Wanted something warm and filling. The portion was huge and came with salad and bread. I ended up taking 1/2 of it back to the hotel with me for a snack later. The sauce had great flavor and was a nice change of pace from the other food options in town. It was nice to have friendly service and see a family working together.

In the unlikely event that you find yourself in Bethel, go here. The menu has the typical pan-cultural fare for rural Alaska (Greek, Italian, American, etc), but all of it is legit. I expected steakums on the steak sandwich and Chef Boyardee in the baked ravioli, but we got picture perfect bubbling cheese and a whole steak on a sandwich. Bonus: the food is made by a sweet Greek grandmother who pokes out from time to time. Thanks for a good meal!

Four other co-workers and I went to this place on a Friday night. We ordered the White Pizza as well as the Vegetarian Pizza. These large servings were huge! I repeat HUGE! Our party of five couldn't even eat a whole pizza. I also ordered the ice tea and it was cool and refreshing. I hear this is one of the happening restaurants in town. Overall, the service was nice and the pizza definitely was better than the canned foods I've been eating daily. My co-workers and I are coming back for the other types of food!

I love this place. It's a childhood favorite and I have been ordering from them for years. Though I don't live in Bethel anymore I still wanted to write about Dimitri's. Their t-bone steaks and gyros are best in Alaska!

Dimitri's is your Bethel staple. They now close during most of the winter. The building is old and in dire need of maintenance. Dimitri's is a staple for a number of reasons. The gyros are probably the best you can get in Alaska. Wednesdays are lemon soup day and the place is packed to the gills because the soup is so good. The restaurant is owned an operated by a family from Cyprus that has been around for decades. On the menu my personal favorite is the Greek Sub, which is a vegetarian sub made with feta and tomatoes on a light toasted roll. I have them put bacon on mine and it is a BLT taken up a notch. I like the bread they use for their subs in general. Their soups are also always spectacular. I know the lemon soup it all the rage but I am in love with both the bean and beef vegetable soups as well. The dinner entres are homemade and it is the only place in Bethel you can get veal, pork chops, picatta, or pasta with homemade pasta sauces and meat balls. The Pizza is the BEST and is highly underrated. I am a fickle stinker and would put it up against any pizza I have had in Alaska. I have not had its equal since I worked for Sicilians on the east coast. The crust is crisp and chewy and it is not excessively coated in low grade mozzarella like so many pizzas these days.

The Dimitri sub is the best. I get this every time.

My favorite place to go when I'm too lazy to cook. The Dimitri's sub is my go-to item on the menu. The turkey pita is pretty good--a little lighter than the sub. Great lasagna, and pretty good pizza. Prices are about average for this town. And it's walking distance from home.

Their Pizzas are good, the owner/servers are really nice. What's not to like?

Greek Cuisine

Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.

Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.

For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
