This place is not just a bar it is also a landmark, in fact it is place his is the gay bar at the most northernmost point in the world, yes you read it here and yes you read it right. Ok you might not find that cool, but I sure do. This place is a gem. While some people might like those loud thumping over crowed night club style places where one can barely move and barely get service. The Raven is like the Cheers of Alaska, when you enter the atmosphere is super friendly and literally everyone knows each other.. Once you become a usual, and that doesn't take long, the bartenders will soon greet you with your favorite drink. Drinks are extremely inexpensive for Alaskan standards (this is not New York City honey). The place isn't fancy, but then no bar here in Alaska truly is. There are a couple pool tables, and a dart circle and an air hockey table. There is also music on demand and several tvs around the establishment. I have been to the other gay pub in town and its definitively a different vibe, the thump thump to base vibe kinda place, also the "other's" outdoor deck cannot compare to the Raven's. For starters it is ridiculously small, I would say it was created so that the smokers would go outside and not leave. At the Raven the outdoor deck is probably as large as the indoor area, and there is patio sitting for tons of people, giving you a bit of a Floridian feel with sunny nights (totally Floridian) and cocktails on hands. There is also a huge gazebo that comes in handy during rainy days. If you are in town and you want to meet some true Alaskans that love to have a good time and are super friendly come up to the Raven and have an Alaskan beer on tap.
