This restaurant was recently sold. We loved the previous owners. They were polite, professional, and made sure everything was clean and tidy. The new ones, not so much! The main door on the corner is locked so you have to walk around. The service is just flat poor. When I gave my order, she replied, "that it?" It used to be, "anything else we can get for you?" Some things have gone up in price or down in size. My co-worker was asked if she wanted a napkin. Really? My salad had several pieces of dark slimy rotten lettuce. My sandwich that I used to love I couldn't finish because it tasted rancid. Food had been dropped into the prep area among the salt and pepper packets and the napkins. The cook scratched his backside with his spatula. The end of a really nice lunch spot. Very sad.

Bought by new owners. Used to love the place, now it's terrible. Raised prices, food isn't half as good, new staff is rude and trashy, and it's the worst now. Used to be my favorite little lunch spot downtown :(

When the wait at Snow City Cafe is too long this is a good alternative. The food is good enough but the coffee is not great.

Anchorage seems to be low on affordable places to grab a meal. We ate here twice while staying a Captain Cook and were happy with the food and prices both times. For breakfast we got reindeer sausage, egg, and cheese sandwiches to go... awesome! Another day we got various lunch sandwiches and fries... also very good. People are friendly and have lots of sandwich choices. Reminds me somewhat of a deli in NYC. Not fancy, by any means. Order at the counter and pick your table.

This is a review for a diner. The sand which deck is a diner. Let me say that one more time.... it is a diner. Therefor... When you go in and are looking for vegetarian options or expensive-fruiffy-waste-my-money type of food; then go elsewhere. If you are looking for a good diner with some cheap no frills food and good customer service: come here! My wife and I walked in and within one minute we had looked at the menu and ordered the Alaska Omelette a coffee and a hot tea. We promptly found a booth and sat down. The waitress came over and refilled my coffee at least 4 times during our meal. The hash browns were excellent and the Omelette was amazing. My wife and I left stuffed and with a wallet that stilled had some bills in it. For that you get 5 stars. Thanks for some real food in a highly touristy area!

Very quick service and friendly staff. The burgers are definitely their best quality offering. It's a basic sand which and fries joint, and does it fairly well. It's not gourmet cooking, but it's inexpensive and great for a down to earth lunch that's easy on the wallet. Especially if you work downtown and don't want to go far to eat.

REINDEER SAUSAGE, scrambled eggs, SOURDOUGH bread, and hash browns with coffee made for an absolutely excellent First Alaskan Breakfast for the visiting New Yorker. I'n just the right amount of stuffed.

What an unorganized mess. The guy at the counter didn't seem to know too much nor did he seem to care to know. I paid $1.50 for toast and it was one piece of bread lightly toasted and dry. This was way too confusing of a breakfast experience for a person who is not a morning person. My suggestion, plan a little extra breakfast time and head over to Snow City Cafe.

Pretty bad. My veggie omelette was stuffed with barely cooked onions, mushrooms, and peppers and my hashbrowns were cold and raw...they graciously brought me new ones. Still, I won't return.

This place is good, classic diner with your options of breakfast plates, sandwiches, and burgers. I got the pastrami that was really good, but took a little extra time and my husband got the bacon cheeseburger that he said was good, it seems to be pretty poplar among the other customers. The interior is a little old, but comfortable and fruited for its surrounding in that cook inlet area. I recommend ordering ahead if you're going around lunch if you're in a rush

We had breakfast here after being told there was 1.5 hr wait at the Snow City Cafe. We have little ones so a wait that long for breakfast was not going to do. The restaurant is a bit of a dive, but the food is satisfying and the only waitress was trying to be very attentive to the needs of all the diners. Nothing special about the food, but it will fill you up before a day out in anchorage.

No line. Quick and friendly service. Nice menu with reasonable prices. Above all, quiet. Even as busy as it was, I could enjoy a calm, relaxed meal. I loved it. I came here after waiting, unsuccessfully, for a counter seat at the breakfast place up the road. So glad I left there and came to the Sandwich Deck.

I work very close to this place and I stop by when I'm in the mood for something a bit greasy. The people that work here are super nice. You can call in an order or go sit in one of the slightly uncomfortable well worn booths. Service is fast and its relatively clean. I've had the fish burger several times and today I tried the patty melt. It was excellent. It was also dripping grease but like I said, it was really good! I don't eat here that often but if you're into diner food and you don't mind slightly greasy, you should try this place. Plus I think the prices are reasonable. The patty melt with fries was $7.50 and it was a lot of food.

It was ok...nothing about the food WoW'd me.... Came in for Breakfast and the place was packed. We saw a table open up, however, we couldn't sit in it. Yoou have to stand in line , place your order and if there is a booth open, then you sit down. Odd process for a tourist spot...but ok. We stood in line for about 20 mins. By the time we ordered our food, a table opened up. Then it was another 30 mins for our food to arrive. While waiting for our food, we ordered coffee and Tea and it was self serve.... By the time we got our food, like I said, it didn't wow me...typical breakfast food and OH, even though they advertised sandwich, you couldn't order it during breakfast hour....so i got breakfast, although the halibut sandwich was very enticing.... Closed on Sunday! 2 omellete and 2 drinks $24.00

The Sandwich Deck is a nice little greasy spoon diner. I had an internship in the area, and when I was in the mood for that type of food, I would hit them up for lunch. Their burgers are surprisingly tasty, as are their sandwiches. As long as you don't expect much and you don't mind a little grease, you won't be disappointed.

A great, "greasy-spoon" diner in Anchorage. Came here after the tourist-filled place down the block told us it was a 45-minute wait. Glad we did. Crowd felt more local. Learned the operating procedure here: order at counter; pay; get soft-drinks from self-serve station (if needed); sit at any open table and display plastic sign with a number on it that indicates your order; wait for food to be delivered by waitress. Had a great breakfast for a very fair price. Nice, large windows give it great light and views of the street scene. The restrooms are outside, down the block, with a combination code listed on the door, and are also frequented by bums and other randoms, so that's a bit of a downer, but otherwise this place is fab to grab a hearty meal.

I wish Yelp offered 2.5 stars. This place has nothing remarkable about it, but serves its purpose of satisfying hunger in a pinch. Plusses: Free wifi Decent prices Good location 80s music in the background Food delivered to table quickly Minusses: French toast was served room temperature Self service, yet a tip jar where you order your food at. Huh? Coffee served in a generic plastic cup

Non traditional place to eat. I came here as a back up with my uncle when the place we were going to frequent turned out to be way too busy. Passed by a few times and thought why not? We came and seated ourselves and waited for service. The waitress said we had to order at the counter. Okay, can we have some coffee? You order that at the counter. Oh, well can you get us some coffee and we'll order our food soon? Sighh... Went up to the counter and ordered our food, paid, and sat back down. Prices were pretty reasonable, standards like breakfast meat, eggs, potatoes with variations. Food came, and we ate, asked for coffee three times, and left. What was the waitress for? She sat in the corner looking out the window the whole time while people came out of the kitchen and dropped off the food. I guess the 2 stars are for my not getting used to not being served at a typical restaurant and feeling like a pest for asking for more coffee. A table got up and left soon after seating, I think they desired a little more too.

Very convenient downtown location, right next to the Captain Cook, and a short walk if you find the lines too long at Snow City. The food is simple but filling, maybe a bit greasy. It just has this wierd 70s vibe to it; the decor is pretty dated.

Got in town in the late afternoon and our hotels restaurant was closed for renovations. (Shame on them). Walked out to the street and saw this place so we went for it. Ordered burgers through the order window and got them pretty quick. I don't know if the food was that good or that I was very hungry. Either way it was enjoyable and the owners were very friendly. Would go back if in a rush...

Let me begin by saying, bravo for thinking to make all the seating booths. Seriously, who wants to sit at a table in a restaurant when i have one in my house? Perhaps my experience with this place's food wasn't too spectacular on account of my straying away from their namesake and getting a french toast breakfast. However, they lose some points for bringing out my Girlfriends food LONG before mine, and from what i noticed they did that to some of the other tables around me. Decently priced, but in another part of town would probably be significantly cheaper. as a side note, i wish yelp had a "sort-of" option under Waiter Service because saying just yes or no doesn't seem to cut it in this instance.

When a restaurant has the word "sandwich" in its name, it's advisable to order a sandwich - which is what I did. My spouse, on the other hand, ordered the halibut and chips, which I tasted and found overly greasy. My sandwich was comprised of a pre-formed, deep-fried patty of ground halibut meat which, by comparison, was delectable. Just be forewarned that in neither case is fresh halibut used.

If you're a vegetarian or health-conscious, pretty much don't bother, go around the corner to Snow City Cafe. That is, unless you are content to make a meal out of ice berg lettuce and bottled salad dressing with a side of fries. As for the price, in my universe, $11.20 plus tip for a self-serve soda, a sad side salad and a basket of fries is outrageous. If the dressing was house-made, *maybe*. The people I had lunch with, happy with their seafood platters and french dips, pretty much asked me to never call them for lunch again. I was grumpy. And here's where I explore the depths of my obsessive pickiness ~ the restaurant doesn't have a bathroom, so you have to get a code, walk outside and use the bathroom attached to the parking garage. Make it harder for restaurant patrons to wash their hands ... awesome. (The fact that people don't wash their hands isn't the fault of the restaurant by any means, but I'm just saying, it added to the "this place is a bit dirty" factor for me.) On the plus side, it does have a charming greasy-spoon/diner vibe which I can totally appreciate, and the french fries were tasty, so points for that. The service was incredibly friendly and upbeat, so much so that it makes me wish I wanted to give them a great review and more of my business. Instead, they get a second star.

When I called my SO after lunch at this place, my first day in Anchorage (Snow City was just too long a wait), I referred to it as "one of those places that water down their ketchup." I mean, the salmon burger was pretty good, and the fries were OK, but the price seemed pretty steep for the kind of place it seemed to be, if you know what I mean. And, seriously, I think they add water to their ketchup.

Conveniently located next to the upscale Captain Cook Hotel, and around the corner from the trendy and popular Snow City Cafe, the Sandwich Deck is a bit of a disappointment. The food is diner-style short order fare, but the service is considerably slower than one should expect. The food quality was average, and the prices were average as well. When my wife and I were there on a Friday mid-morning, we were hoping to get some quick brunch and be on our way for a busy day. Unfortunately, the wait to receive our food left us wondering if they were having to special order a pig from the lower 48 in order to make some bacon for our breakfasts. So for a place that is connected to the upscale Captain Cook hotel, where business travelers may be seeking a quick and easy bite to eat, this is quite a disappointment. Also, their sign advertises that they are open for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, but they close at 4pm. Unless you're expecting to enjoy your dinner really REALLY early, that's not something to plan on for an evening repast.

Little place on the corner of 4th and K. Great spot to hit up from the office to grab a quick bite. VERY nice owners. I usually grab their Breakfast sandwich a couple days a week to help me start my day off right.

I just tried their salmon burger today and it is really, really good. I figured it would be a salmon patty with all kinds of fillers in it but it appears to be a preformed hunk of pink salmon. I know that description doesn't sound good, but it is. It's a hunk of flaked salmon that appears to be crispy, pan-fried with a really thin crust. It has a flawless smoky flavor too. It's served on a toasted bun with tomato, onion, lettuce and pickles. I wanted to jump up and run to the counter and ask them, "what the heck is this ? how did you cook it ?" so I could do it at home but the place was crowded. The cost of it with fries and med. drink was $11 and I agree with Taughnee, that's expensive too but sometimes you just don't want to deal with wait staff and stuff...and you will pay for convenience. That sandwich was delicious though. How did they do it....
