what a funky, slightly dilapidated gem on the South side! Here's the thing - I probably wouldn't come here again mainly because I'm not a huge going out for breakfast person, it's on the south side of town, and there's bound to be a cramped waiting period on the weekend. But! I genuinely enjoyed my time here. The coffee is so so, but it's simply a local dive diner, so if you're looking for french press, go to the bears tooth grille. The wait to be seated was only about 10 minutes - the place as a whole probably only has about 10 tables. Service was fast and friendly enough (my dad is a regular and there appears to be a lot of those). I was quite happy with my meal - I had the corned beef and hash. Because the meal already comes with homestyle potatoes, I asked them to nix the hashbrowns for a couple dollar pancakes. The hashbrowns came with the pancakes anyway and I wasn't going to complain about that! The corned beef was lacking in quantity, but made up for in taste. The beef was tender and not too salty. The hashbrowns were not mushy, but a little dry and perfectly crisped on the outside - just the way I like em. The cakes were super moist and spongy - also just the way I like them! The eggs were cooked as requested. My boyfriend was very happy with his biscuits and gravy, noting that the biscuits were definitely scratch made, as was the gravy. He also ordered a side of bacon and it was generously portioned, medium thick bacon. all in all, a great divey-ish diner. As a side note, you can also get homemade pies and cookies here. They looked delicious.

Local diner, no credit cards, closes mid afternoon. The menu was mostly breakfast, and I'm sure it would be great for that. I got there just before closing and I was more interested in lunch. They had some sandwiches on the menu for that, and I had a turkey, cheese, tomato thing. Just meh, but the people were nice.

I love eating a big breakfast before heading out of town. Judy's is my favorite spot for that. Service is great, food comes out within minutes and my eggs and bacon are always cooked the way I like them. Coffee is the burnt diner style, lots of locals and construction workers, so nothing fancy here. Just come on in for good food! Cash or check only, but they do have an atm machine inside.

I have been here a few times with friends that live on the Hill Side. Breakfast is always pretty good and I had a club sandwich today that was very tasty. The wait staff is always very friendly and pretty efficient. A very small dining area and you may have to wait for seating to become available.

Really good breakfast. There's one grumpy meth-head waitress (you'll know her when you see her) so try to avoid her (just don't make eye contact - she might be tweaking). But otherwise, the staff is pleasant and the food is really reliable. Our go-to breakfast.

Decent breakfast food, I had a waffle and bacon which was good the coffee was gross which was a little disappointing but that's to be expected. My boyfriend had biscuits and gravy and we loved it.

Had breakfast here again on Saturday morning and I gotta say, the breakfast is pretty damn good. Fast, eggs were fresh (Yay!), grits were thick like I like them and the bacon was thick and crunchy, just how I like it! I would say the only downside to Judy's is the small space. If you want to eat breakfast without having to wait in line, get there early.

So this was my second time. I had heard great things about Judy's and I recall thinking to myself "What's so special about this place?" my first time there. I think I was expecting something different and after some thought, I've only heard that it's some great homestyle cooked meals. Well that is probably the best description you can give. Had the Chicken fried steaks and eggs with a side of grits. I LOVE grits! A tad lumpy but nothing a bunch of butter and a little stirring didn't fix. Eggs were perfect. Sunny side up. I hate when the whites aren't cooked, but they were done perfectly. The chicken fried steak was a bit odd. The texture was different than anything I have had before. I kept picking at it to see if it was some processed slab of meat but it wasn't. So I guess a positive comment would be it was very "tender". Once I got over the "uniqueness" in my opinion, it was gone in a flash. The gravy is a touch bland but nothing a little salt and pepper didn't fix, so it's probably healthier that way. For many other folks, the most negative thing was probably the coffee. it was the old style Folgers or something along those ones. I don't mind that one bit. It reminds me of my younger days working in the fish processors where we would drink gallons at a time so it holds a little nostalgia for me since any more, at home or at the office I seem to be drinking the so called "premium" stuff. Nice healthy portions. Great prompt service. Reasonably priced but I wouldn't call it cheap. $13 and change for the whole shebang. They only take cash or checks...but they do have an ATM there. Its close enough to home that I can certainly se going back there more often.

I went to Judy's with my girlfriend for the first time today because we had heard that the food was really good. We walked inside and noticed a sign at the front counter that said they didn't accept debit cards, neither of us had a credit card or cash with us so we talked about it for a second and decided to leave. Right after we mentioned that we didn't have a credit card one of the servers looked at us, rolled her eyes and said "whatever". I feel like that was extremely rude and I will never go to Judy's again. That is a horrible way to talk to customers, and a great way to lose business.

Do not come here to make me wait longer for the delicious breakfast I come here for every week!

Judy's Cafe is another old-skool Anchorage establishment that has stood the test of time. As I walked in, I could sense the stares from the local Carhartt sporting bearded men getting their morning grub on -- giving me the "'you aint from these parts, is ya boy?" look. Nevertheless, I grabbed a seat at the counter and ordered a Denver Omelette. Judy's is as Americana as you can get. Probably built in the 1970's, they offer up your standard greasy spoon fare at standard Alaskan prices. The food comes out quick, hot, good portion sized, and greasy. You'll definitely feel the breakfast sittin in your stomach for hours on end. Just like Harley's Old Thyme Cafe, I'm sure this place has a loyal following. Personally, if I'm having breakfast in Anchorage, I'm going to Middle Way or Snow City because I like upbeat, fresh, and new-school.

Great local diner for breakfast. The omelet's are very good and huge. The reindeer sausage is flavorful. Hash browns are crispy. Biscuits are light and fluffy and the gravy is perfect. Service is fantastic.

There's a funny thing about Alaskan culture. While there are plenty of folks who will generally go for the all-organic uber-healthy vegetable-laden self-imposed-eating-disorder diet, you will only rarely find someone who'll say no to the occasional sausage omelet with properly crispy hash browns. It's almost certainly due to the weather; something about it being freezing cold and windy outside just makes you crave fat and salt and sugar. Anchorage has made great strides over the past couple decades; it used to be very much a wilderness town, and now it's really blooming into a city in its own right. But I'm glad there are still places like this around, holdouts from an earlier time when it was barely more than an outpost of civilization. Simple, sodium-filled, fat-laden but unquestionably tasty food - the reindeer sausage alone always makes me feel like I'm home again, no matter how many years I spend living in the rest of the United States. Great food, friendly service, clean and neat and cheap (especially by Alaska standards - watch out, though, as it's cash only). Absolutely recommended to anyone looking for an authentic Alaskan experience.

I love small greasy spoons that get it right, and this is one of them. The food always comes out ridiculously fast, it's some of the cheapest but decent breakfast you can get in town. Love this place.

Judy's Cafe is a long time favourite of mine, it may be a small, packed, greasy spoon, but thats exactly the kind of dinner I'd like to eat at. The hot chocolate comes in mugs decorated by children on one of the local schools, and the cinnamon rolls are a meal unto themselves. I always order the breakfast special (some kind of omelet usually) which ensures I can get in and out under $10. Enjoy and remember to tip if you like the food and service!

Good breakfasts. Average service. Small dining area, gets packed quickly on weekends. Doesn't open until 9am on Sundays.

I love little breakfast joints like this. They serve very original and homely breakfast foods. This is the place to go! And they are cheap, the only issue is that they are cash only.
