Their scallops... Just get them and thank me later. Best I've ever had, the epitome of scallop perfection! I don't think I'll ever make another review because I'll never order anything but that dish again. We also had the gnocchi, which was tender and fabulous. Keep the leftover Gorgonzola sauce for the bread! My husband got the mushroom ravioli which was delicious, but didn't have anything on my scallops. The wait staff was attentive but let you eat in peace at the same time which is a fine balancing act. Our waiter was comfortable recommending menu items when I told him I was stuck between duck spring rolls and gnocchi for the appetizer and the filet mignon kebabs or scallops for dinner, I went with his recommendations and both were excellent!!! 10/10.

I have eaten at Haute Quarter Grill three times, once when it was in Eagle River. My last visit was July 8th, 2015 for an anniversary dinner. In short, I like the place and would not hesitate to visit again, for a special occasion. The prices put it a little above my normal budget for normal or casual dining. We have always had friendly and efficient service. The dining area is not exactly intimate, with tables and bench seating along a wall, with other tables in a divided dining room. Still it is adequate and does not have the bus-terminal feel like that of someplace like The Glacier Brewhouse. The menu selection allows a rather picky me to have multiple options, both of standard variety such as steak, prime rib, crab legs, or salmon, and more adventurous offerings such as jambalaya, lamb lollypops, or roasted duck. On this occasion, I opted for a special 16 oz. blackened prime rib topped with Cajun sausage and shrimp in a spicy cream sauce with crisp summer squash saute and mashed potatoes. It was very good. My husband and I also tried the duck spring rolls and the Maytag blue cheese salads with cocktails, prosecco, dessert, and after dinner drinks. Our bill with 20% tip just broke $200 with entree prices running on both sides of $30. I would not order the spring rolls again, not because they were not good, just expensive at $15 for two thin rolls. Our desserts were quite substantial portions of warm mixed berry cobbler with sweet biscuit and vanilla ice cream. I am a healthy eater but did not finish my prime rib or dessert because I was stuffed. Every dish was fresh, top quality, and innovative, something I appreciate, as I can get a slab of beef on a plate in virtually every restaurant in Anchorage. The details set the dishes apart even though I am usually dead set against having a steak when I go out because I crave something a little different without going totally out on a limb. Some fancy places just try too hard in this respect.

I love the ambiance here. I love the service here. I love the food here. They also have killer mini-patio in the summer, a great place to gawk at tourists or 4th street. At the end of the day though, I always leave here feeling a bit ripped off. The prices are too high and the portions are too small. There are many restaurants in town that offer extremely similar specials (particularly on Halibut) for $5-$10 less...with larger portions. Great place to go for a "date night" where cost is no object, and you'll be sharing appetizers and desserts. If you just want a fresh local meal for a fair price, I would look elsewhere. (Sack's, Spendard Roadhouse, Ginger for starters)

It is hard for me to give 5 stars, but I feel obligated to, as this is the best "fine dining" Anchorage has to offer. Better than Sullivan's, better than Simon and Seifort's, better than anything on 5th Ave. Quotation marks because you can roll up in a 5-piece suit or flannel and cut off cargo shorts and feel equally at ease. This is my go-to in Anchorage when I have an excuse to go somewhere shwanky. The joint itself is cool; deep and narrow with relatively high ceilings. It feels like it could have been transplanted out of NYC. High back seats create some privacy and an easy environment to spend some time at ordering drinks and appetizers before putting in entree orders. The menu itself has a nice variety, with consistently interesting specials. Everything I've tried has been great. If you've eaten in downtown Anchorage you know service is hit or miss, with a preponderance of big misses. Haute Quarter seems to have corralled all the good servers, making the dining experience itself much more enjoyable than at other restaurant options. If I had to pick one thing I would change it would be that they took the tiramisu off the menu. It was awesome and nothing else on the dessert menu gets me particularly excited ...And the out of place fish art over the kitchen entrance. I get it, Alaska... but can I go somewhere without seeing fish art?

This place has awesome drinks!! I love the vibe and atmosphere. It's a great place to meet up with friends and have a drink. If this review was based on food alone, i'd give them 3 stars. We ordered the mushroom ravioli, ribs and jambalaya. The mushroom ravioli was on point. The ribs and the jambalaya on the other hand...mehh. The jambalaya was too salty and the ribs were flavorless. It was quite disappointing considering lots of folks rave about how awesome the food here is. I think I might be the unpopular one and say the food isn't alllll that great! Make sure you make reservations. This place does get super packed.

The gnocchi, Steak kabobs and risotto were amazing. Too much dressing on blue cheese salad and Caesar salad. The ribeye was good but heavy on the salt. Great customer service and ambiance. For wine, we had the Paso Robles 2012 Cabernet - spectacular. Amazing new addition to Anchorage!!

Oh Haute Quarter Grill, our orders fell in behind a big table and it took over an hour and a half to get our food. AN HOUR AND A HALF!!! But I can't stay mad at you, it did give us the chance to order another bottle off your wonderful wine list, and when the food did arrive it was delicious! I enjoyed myself so thoroughly I even stayed for dessert while the rest of my party had their eyes on the door you and I enjoyed a glass of dessert wine and a perfectly crisped creamy creme brulee maybe not the most exciting dessert you had to offer but we both know there's nothing wrong with a classic.

great find in Anchorage! the menu is quite varied and everything we tasted was incredible! we decided to try 4 different things on the appetizer menu and have salads and call that dinner. I had the bread salad and it's now my new favorite!! I'm going to have to remember to make that at home when I'm getting tired of the usual salad. The duck confit was very tasty - loved all the jams and fruits and cheese to mix it with to make the perfect crustini! The spicy banana ketchup is no joke - it was too spicy for me. but the fries were yummy enough that I didn't need the sauce. I then got the berry cobbler for dessert - a la mode. it was amazing!!! not to sweet so it was just fabulous! service was great. my friend is newly gluten free and the waitress spent a lot of time talking through what options were available to her. And did so in such a nice manner and didn't act annoyed at all which I appreciate. sometimes everyone's food sensitivities just get annoying, so I appreciated her being so nice to my friend. fun decor - great place for a date night. they have cozy 2 seat tables. and the bar looks like it would be really fun for happy hour

Great place to celebrate special occasions, meet for drinks, or even a casual dinner. It is Alaska after all! They have excellent service and the owner really cares about the customers! All we have tried so far have been delicious except their calamari could be better. Please try their Herbaceous drink...refreshing & unique!

Everything from the drinks to the dresser were amazing. Portions were good sized and meat was cooked to perfection. The desert menu is large and all are delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone over any other restraint like this in Anchorage.

Gnocchi was to die for! Blackened Prime rib was amazing as well. We drank an exquisite red wine for a reasonable price (Stags Leap @ $13 a glass). Definitely recommend a visit if your in town

Pricey but great food. One of the best Prime Ribs I've ever had. Didn't even need a knife and cooked perfect. Gnocchi was excellent as well which is something that most restaurant's cannot accomplish. Wasn't a single complaint on any of the food we ordered. Only thing I didn't like was the automatic gratuity (we added more because she was great) While I understand the reasoning, I like to tip based off my service and not solely because we have 5 people to wait on.

Caught up with friends when we ran in to them! It's busy and service is excellent! Came after an event at Sullivan's Arena. Since we had eaten before the event we split an appetizer - Duck Spring Rolls and their Special was Cajun Blackened Prime Rib. Really enjoyed! It was also very happening for a weeknight! Good place to see and be seen! Enjoy!

Having heard some negative reviews, I didn't expect much from this restaurant, but it was amazing! One of my new favorite places to eat in Anchorage. The ambiance is fabulous (if loud--could use some better sound absorption), with a sleek yet playful and understated decor. The service was also excellent--our server was professional and knowledgable and attentive. As for the food, everything was delicious. We started with cocktails (the blood orange martini is wonderful)--they have a great selection and some original concoctions I look forward to trying. The calamari appetizer was perfect: fresh, flavorful, and I could drink the garlic aioli, it was so good. The rest of my party was pleased with the beer selection, though I can speak to that because I don't drink beer. They even seemed to note some unexpected options that aren't often available. But the great wine list made me happy--a nice range of wine varietals and prices. All of the entrees we had were perfect. I had the roasted duck, which was tender and tasty (and big enough for leftovers, which just meant one more day of deliciousness). The potatoes and veggies were also great. My partner and out friend had the filet special; it was perfectly cooked, and we were both happy with the flavor and the creative addition of a chèvre pistachio butter. Another friend had the deconstructed Niçoise salad, which was unique and which she enjoyed. The incredible desserts were the final joy. Our friends shared the bananas foster, and we had the mousse, which was creamy, not too rich, and a perfect chocolate/fresh raspberry mix. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for any occasion, from a casual bar dinner to a fancy night out. Can't wait to go back.

Five of us from work went on a Tuesday night. There was a fixed price beer dinner going on, and all six of the movable tables were committed to that event. The decor is very nice, but there are lots of four and two person booths. I think if you had more than four, you'd best make a reservation. We ended up putting two bar tables together, and that was fine. The menu was very impressive. Lots of choices in the fowl, seafood, and steak categories. We shared calmer and ahi apps, and both were good. I had the seafood pasta, and it had just the right level of richness for me. A couple of guys had the chicken cordon bleu, with another two having the halibut caesar salad. No complaints. Our server, Kim, did a great job of taking care of us...even our special needs billing. Good addition to downtown dining.

Cool vibe and scene, cool decor. Especially for Anchorage. Service is friendly, efficient-- overall really great. Menu and food quality are excellent. Moderate portions, "safe" favorites and a few more adventurous menu items, great value price-wise. Space is limited. Not great for l One of the best spots in Anchorage. Wish it were open earlier in the day, and later into the night!

Gorgonzola gnocchi was amazing as well as the seafood pasta, and the blood orange martini was one of the best cocktails I've ever had.

Open table friendly. Promptly seated and greeted by a wonderful server. Very knowledgeable about the items on the menu. Very interesting selection of cocktails and specialty wines. "Donkey dines out" is a twist on a Moscow mule. Great Italian selection if reds. But $$. Started with ahi app. Beautifully presented with ginger and wasabi. Perfectly seared outside and raw 99% the rest with a wasabi that will light you up. If you opt for a "specialty" wine by the glass, be warned. A machine measures out 2, 4, or 6 oz. I ordered 4 and you could barely see it in the glass for $12. Please! Stick with the house offerings and get a fair pour. They are good. Entree was sea scallops served with jasmine rice, arugula , romesco. Extremely tasty and well balanced. I must say that the lower 48 seems to get better quality of both salmon and shell fish. The scallops were previously frozen and thus shriveled up quite a bit after cooking. They were tasty, but savvy state-siders will notice a difference in both quality and size. It's as if there's no daily market for chefs to go to here in Alaska. I thought stuff came from here! This restaurant has the right idea about quality and service. I would definitely recommend this place.

sept 2014 Her gift certificate to apologize was way generous! Holy crap- I am coming back just for the level of consideration my disappointment received- Thank you Lynn- my re do was SO YUMMY!! Older man was our waiter and he was great!! --------------------------------------------------Â--------------------------------------------------Â------- OKAY- i will amend this- I got an email from the owner on Facebook. So... If you have a bad experience they DO try to win you back over... which is great customer service. The owner Lynn is addressing my complaint and is trying to make amends. This would help compensate for the loss of my fancy leftovers. As a customer that is very appreciated. --------------------------------------------------Â--------------------------------------------------Â-----------july 2014-New Anchorage location. SERVICE FAIL TRUMPS GOOD FOOD. Customers will not come when you fail to meet customer service expectations. The food was delicious- but they have just lost my business. Haute grill set the standard that they are "too good" to worry about impressing the guests. We splurged- 3 fufu drinks, 2 apps, soup, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts. We just grazed our entrees so we had plenty of room for our favorite: DESSERT. We packed up our 2/3 of our entrees- Crab stuffed prawns, blackened filet mignon topped with seafood hollandaise It was going to be a fabulous meal for later. On the way home we realized we had left it on the table. We turned around and went straight back to Haute Grill. Less than 20 min after departing- The door was locked and after knocking our waitress answered the door. She (Natalie) relayed they threw it away. It was obvious we forgot it... and we came right back. Really!!- that is what kind of customer service you get for 160$ tab?? Last week the preteen waitress at Applebee's ran out to the parking lot with a to-go box for my dining companion left left the box on the table. (maybe 30$ tab) I've worked as a waitress from casual to fine dining. So... I can say I am disappointed that consideration and courtesy to the guest ceases after the tip is collected.

The roast duck is absolutely incredible and it's what the entire family gets when we have reservations there. The gnocchi is also incredible and we've never had a less than great meal there. The only cons are they aren't in Palmer anymore and parking at their current location downtown is hideous. This is not a place where you eat and look at the prices, if you can't afford it, this is not the place for you. Is the price worth the food, yes, but it's costly so we don't come as often as we would like, maybe twice a year.

This is a cute modern day restaurant in downtown Anchorage, the wait time was what could be expected on a Friday night. Too bad the food wasn't so worth the wait, I got the seafood pasta and I have no complaints about the actually seafood (included scallops and shrimp only) however I was not pleased with the watery sauce. The service was okay, I might try again under different circumstances. The gnocchi appetizer was delicious, so maybe this is a good place for drinks before you go out.

Came here on a Friday evening and sat in bar table section. Had no problem getting a table. Ordered a few appetizers to share. The seared ahi tuna was a little spicy but yummy. The lamb meatballs are a must! The blue cheese sliders are the most amazing little hamburgers I've ever had. The daily pizza app was yummy (pep and sausage and other meats).

It's all about the food. Leaving there, my wife summed it up like this: It's like your a girl in high school, and enamored by a slick jock with a bulge in his pants goes out on a date with anticipation for a great performance. On the way home after experiencing a less than satisfactory sex romp, With a smaller than advertises member, thinks... THATS ALL! .........THATS ALL I GET? Service, good, 4 stars, nick was professional, but talked fast and had to repeat himself multiple times to us, between my mediocre hearing, the bad acoustics of the place, and his talking, I knew to never meet a group of friends here to talk, I'd have a hard time separating the background noise from my friends. The atmosphere, it seems to miss its identity, whatever that is, it's not fine dining, it's not a bar, it's not romantic....not sure what they were going for... I'm not reviewing based on atmosphere.....just noting the place. Food, 2 stars. One glass of wine. 14.95. It was real good Second glass, 13.95, also real good Chicken wings, 10.95. real good, fantastic actually, but they don't have any ranch in the building according to the server......half the people in the country like ranch with wings....I know blue cheese is traditional. But come on...it was a let down. Crab cakes, 13.95. Poor! Duck rolls, 13.95. Not good at all, not interesting, not flavorful, the favors didn't compliment each other....mush....it was muuuush in side. Mixed salad, 6.95. Descent, 4 stars, best deal we ordered at 6.95 74.70, plus 15.00 tip Total of 89.00 out the door. Usually when I spend that much money for a meal, or three orderves and a salad, I feel like I have been treated, NOT! The spouse said what I was thinking as we walked out, well, we will never go,there again. At half the price we'd give it a second chance, based on some elements of a great experience were there, the wine, the salad..... As you can see, the presentation Is great, But, then again, that's like the bulge in the the jocks pants that turns up,short!

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! Never have I ever been so insulted. My evening at Haute Quarter Grill started off alright, we had a party of ten people celebrating a friend's birthday. The original table provided was too small, so instead of pulling a table over that was not even a foot away, they requested that the entire party get up and move to another table. At the end of the meal we gave our credit card to the waitress to pay, after 20 minutes of waiting, she finally comes over and says that our card fell behind a table and they were unable to retrieve it. So the manager walked over and does not apologize at all, she just asked us to follow her so that she can show us where our card allegedly fell. They gave us some tools and a flash light so that we can try to fish it out ourselves, so we struggle for about another 20 to 30 minutes. I was uneasy because I could not see my card and had to take their word that it was actually down there... Then the manager said that she will pay for the drinks on our ticket, but expected one of the other guests at our party to pay the remainder of our ticket. At this point my husband steps up and says that neither we nor one of our guests will pay the ticket. How can you expect a guest to pay for our ticket when you are the ones that lost our card? Now we will have to go through the hassle of cancelling our cards and waiting the long delivery time for the cards to be replaced. Not to mention updating that information for all the bills that automatically gets paid by it. After waiting for 10 minutes once more we go sit at our table again with our guests. The manager then once again unapologetically walks over and says that she spoke to the owner, he will cover the ticket, but he wants us to leave NOW. She repeated that he wants us to leave, then left. So please tell me how I am in the wrong and getting kicked out of the restaurant when THEY are the ones responsible for loosing or potentially stealing my card? So if you are in the mood to be belittled and served by an unapologetic and snobby staff, and an owner that obviously does not know how to treat customers, then by all means this is the place for you.

Date night? Haute is perfect. Fresh & delicious boutique style restaurant. The food has high-end Italian flare with perfect portions. With out a reservation we were seated on a Friday night at 7pm in less than 20 minutes. Drinks were offered while we waited in the bar area (with out a bar table) very nice. It makes you feel acknowledged and keeps you from walking out the door to find a quicker table. You can usually get a seat at the bar but weekends are very busy. It is reasonably pricy but anything down town and this delicious will be. I will be a regular, parking downtown is always a problem but you can unusually sneak a spot on Fst if your lucky. Honestly .. go with one other person and not a large group because you can be here a while waiting for perfection on a plate, end up drinking your dinner and taking food home for later.

I love this place. Local food. Local beers. Trendy cuisine and friendly staff. I usually end up getting the giant alaska crab. The pieces are as big as a PVC pipe. In most seafood restaurants a 1 lb crab ends up being about 3oz of crab meat. At Haute Quarter grill, I think you end up with 1lb of actual crab meat with their meal. It's not cheap but worth the splurge if you are visiting. In addition to great crab, their steaks and raviolis are pretty good too. All in all, its a great place to sit down and have a nice meal. Haute Quarter does get pretty busy. Reservations are recommended.

The only reason this place didn't get five stars is that the kitchen is incredibly slow. Even our server told us he was trying to be patient with them. The food was awesome and the staff was friendly but plan on being there for a while. It took us two hours to have dinner for two.

For our visit, I had a glass of iced tea and the hamburger, my friend had the maytag salad. My burger was fine, though I'm not a fan of shoe string fries, they were cooked perfectly. The burger was slightly over done for my taste, but it was by no means ruined. My friend was super unhappy with her salad. She said the house made blue cheese dressing tasted like ranch (they don't have ranch), and the salad was on the small side with very little blue cheese crumbles on it nor the fruit. She left feeling very hungry. The service overall was pleasant. The server kept a cheery attitude even though she had a good amount of tables. This place was getting packed with tourists. Of course, the addition of all these people made the service for our table a bit slow. Overall, we weren't impressed with the food, but agreed that the service was pleasant and we wouldn't mind coming here for drinks, just not food.

Great experience. I have come here several times for happy hour, they have excellent specials and I really enjoy sitting out in the patio area in the summer. We had our first dinner here, and everything was perfect. The service was personable, friendly, and efficient. Our courses all came out in a timely manner. The owner made a point to come visit our table and talk to us about our meals and tell us a little bit about the move to Anchorage they made. I saw him doing this at several other tables, as well as running food and checking up on other customers throughout the evening. Good to see the ownership involved. Great atmosphere, great food, great service. If you like Glacier Brewhouse or Orso in downtown Anchorage, give Haute Quarter a shot, I found the experience similar if not better. Will be back.

Delicious! They have a great menu and their happy hour is fantastic! I had the gnocchi as an app. Blue cheese salad and the mushroom ravioli for dinner. Can't wait to go back! Great atmosphere!

Pretty good overall. NY steak was excellent, so was mushroom ravioli. Drinks were good too. Came on a Friday after work and had to eat at bar because of not having reservations. The reservations system here creates artificial demand: there was a line almost out the door and half the tables were empty waiting for reservations. But, we still got in for dinner at 5 on fri night. Not bad.

My mom and I went after a show at the Performing Arts Center, which is a short, direct walk from the restaurant. The decor is modern and fun. The ambience was wonderful. Mark was our server and he was very friendly and attentive. He was careful to make sure our steaks would be cooked to our preference and made substitutions to my mom's order very easily. Our food was delicious. We ordered the New York strip and the special filet. Both were flavorful and tender. I already have another reservation to go back with my husband!

I've heard a lot of good things about this restaurant so we thought we'd check it out. It's a small place and very cozy and warm. It's dimly lit and a nice place to unwind and enjoy a drink. It took a while for us to get menus so I was already getting a bit impatient. The food was very delicious and my Kamikaze was on point but I don't know, probably too fancy for my taste buds. I had the kabobs. The filet mignon was tender and juicy but the risotto was more like rice with sauce in top. The sauce or cheese was over-powering. For dessert we had the beignets but they were not the best I had. I feel like it was missing warm chocolate or something for dipping and they were a bit hard. I felt the check was a bit outrageous ($96 after tip) and I left still wanting to eat more so I wasn't fully satisfied. I wouldn't totally rule this place but I probably would just come here for drinks. It's still worth checking out :-) I also recommend making a reservation. We came as walk ins and ended up having to sit at the bar. Now I want some sweet potato fries and a sweet tea...good night fellow yelpers.

Overall this place was pretty good. Nice atmosphere and not too crowded. Also there is a wall running down the middle that essentially keeps the table from being next to other tables which adds a little more privacy, as opposed to feeling surrounded like you do at some places. The food was good. The octopus was an interesting try, but the lamb meatballs were disappointingly dry and bland. The gnocchi was excellent. I had the mushroom ravioli for the entree. Good flavor but it could have used a little more salt. Overall pretty good but for this price range there are better places around.

Great, great, GREAT place! We lived in Eagle River for two years and made it a point to visit this place at least once every couple weeks. The food is simply outstanding and Chef Alex is a great guy - very personable and he'll come visit with you and BS. His wife Lynn is also great - a wry sense of humor that made us howl. We miss it!

We easily got a seat at the bar just before 6 on Saturday night, but it filled up the placed filled up pretty quickly after 6:15. We had the ahi tuna appetizer, which was served with ponzu, some white sauce on the plate that had not much flavor, but a really delicious seaweed salad in the middle. The tuna was really fresh and perfectly cooked! For entrees I had the 16oz prime rib that was on their fresh menu and my husband had the 9oz filet special. He liked mine better, but mine had a really delicious heavy sauce that I wished I would have asked on the side. The filet came with a really good butter... Both were crusted with spices! It's a good place with a mellow atmosphere, they have about 10 beers on tap... Not too fancy, not super casual

This is the best restaurant in Anchorage. Great food, great drinks, great laid back and romantic atmosphere. If you are looking for good food, great desserts, great wine or spirits, and a place to wine and dine your lady, this is it! The prices are fair given the quality and presentation you get. We'll come back!

What a great addition to downtown. Love this place. The remodel of the old Downtown Deli is fabulous. Warm colors with a nice big window for a street view. Wish the bar area was a little bigger. Food is excellent but why shouldn't it be since they also own Table 6 (my other favorite spot) Service was quick and very friendly. The gal seating people in the dining room was awesome and quick with a sense of humor! A must place to visit if your downtown!

Seriously. Just seeing the image of the restaurant's sign and I start salivating. When the grill was out in Eagle River, I would still drive there from Anchorage to have the food coming out of their kitchen. I am beyond excited that they moved to Anchorage, especially so close to where I live! After they moved to Anchorage, my first experience was with a group of ten people on NYE. They were 30 minutes late getting us seated. I could give a flying hoot. I knew this meal was going to be to die for and I would have waited another 30. About 5 minutes after we got seated and drink orders taken, the kitchen came out with 2 free appetizers. Not expected or demanded, but gratuitously accepted and appreciated. I have previously ordered the cajun style prime rib, various seafood entrees and pastas in Eagle River and cherished every decadent bite. The grill makes their own pasta. I mean seriously...does any "Italian" restaurant in Anchorage always make their own pasta?! NYE I ordered the caesar to start. I am a total stickler on caesars. I don't want to taste mayo drenched romaine. I want a delicate and light blend of dressing, showcasing bright lemon, pungent anchovies and fresh garlic and I got exactly that in the grill's salad. For my main entree I had the mushroom ravioli's with a cream sauce, topped with a sprinkling of sun dried tomatoes and pancetta. It was ridiculously rich. My date had the surf n turf. He ordered rare on his filet and I swear, you could cut it with a fork and it melted on my tongue and lasted in my dreams for days after. One of the hallmarks of this place - it's richness. Where the grill may lose points with some foodies for being too heavy or perhaps not quite innovative enough, the flavors and portions will leave you over the moon (and in a food coma). The vodka martini I ordered was prepared perfectly and the other guests who had wine seemed to really enjoy the waiters suggested pairings. I literally thought about this place everyday since until I returned a week later for happy hour with my sister. We had every happy hour appetizer with the exception of two. Each were absolutely amazing and nicely portioned for being half off. We had the roasted garlic, gnocchi, ahi tuna, calamari and chicken wings. I adored them all - the roasted garlic was wonderfully straight-forward and tangy, gnocchi crazy rich and chewy, the ahi a fair portion and melt in your mouth, calamari tender and not too much "deep fried fluff" and the chicken wings were meaty with a wonderful spicy barbecue sauce. Sis had the happy hour red wine and I had the white. As a bit of a wine snob, I was genuinely impressed with the quality of the wine for the price. Waitstaff is friendly and helpful and the new decor warm and dimly lit; creating a romantic and cozy atmosphere. I will be back very soon.

I had high hopes. 6 of us were sat in a timely manner on Friday night. It went downhill from there. It took 1 hour to get our food (salads and appetizers), a hair was found in the crab cakes, and our waiter was extremely rude! He made a snide comment about us being "high maintenance"...sorry Charlie, we never complained about the slow service, just the hair!! The food was okay...not worth the high price though. There are too many competing restaurants to go back to this place again!

Yikes! I went back! Why? I had to, friends birthday party. Needless to say, zero improvement. The joint looks exactly like any of the other finer establishments in the downtown area - almost like they mirrored Crush. All the house specialty drinks had something sweet in them which seemed to over power the drink itself. X-Rated Liqueur on top of Ruby Red Vodka? Might as well put honey on that sugar. The Bojito reminded me of a similar drink to Bear's Tooth - are they not savvy enough to come up with their own ideas?? My salad, for the price, was tiny. The seafood was gross & didn't smell right. Seems lately restaurants are having an issue with seafood...in Alaska (then again, maybe it's just me)! Maybe I should start ordering steaks but my companions steak was well overdone (ordered medium rare). I refused to order any wine by the glass after reading the absurd charge for a 3 oz pour but the prices for a bottle aren't any better. The upcharge is insulting to anyone that may know something about wine or in the "industry". Next time someone mentions this place, I will walk myself over to F Street & wait in line if necessary. This place is a joke. Read the Google reviews! They are hysterical!!

I have been here a few times and each time has been wonderful. We took our sons here yesterday to celebrate the youngest's graduation. We all loved our meals and the boys loved the atmosphere.

It was a beautiful day so we grabbed a table outside. Our waiter was friendly and the food was very good. Best clam chowder I've had so far. If you're on a tour and don't have time and don't know where to eat I recommend this. Not pricey if you want something small.

Stopped in here because the food smelled great from the street, plus I needed to sober up after my booth to booth beer tasting experience at the Beer & Barley festival and...YUM!!! The food was awesome, went big girl style and got the ribeye, delicious. The atmosphere was great and the customer service was even better. Prices are moderate, wish there were more beer options but I was on a beer craze at that moment. If you haven't been here it's def worth checking out.

We have made it a thing to try calamari and crab cakes around anchorage. This is by far the best! My boyfriend had the kabobs...i don't eat red meat and I loved it..melt in urban mouth good. Excellent drink menu. The staff were very nice and the atmosphere is wonderful. It seems it's becoming a regular place now!

I made reservations online for 6 friends and it was easy! The day of, staff called to confirm the time. The atmosphere is lively and fun. My girlfriends and I all ordered a different plate so we can try each other's food. My two favorite dishes were the filet mignon and mushroom ravioli. We were so full from all the delicious food that we couldn't eat dessert! It gives us a reason to go back :)

Perfect for a Saturday night out! We'd been there a couple of times before, just for drinks and desserts, so this was our first full meal at HQG. The service was absolutely perfect; our waiter was polite without constantly demanding our attention (a regular issue I have with fine dining restaurants in Anchorage) and our courses came out at just the right times throughout the evening. Also, I love what they've done with the interior and lighting. We started with the fries, which had two very unusual dipping sauces, which we enjoyed as an alternative to boring old ketchup. Also, the roasted garlic which was a perfect appetizer for two and included toast points, chevre, and roasted peppers. Even though I usually don't like mushrooms, I took a chance on the mushroom ravioli, which was amazing. A delicious sauce, bits of sundried tomatoes, hazelnuts, and proscuitto. My boyfriend's jambalaya was far too spicy for me, but perfect if you're looking for a hot Cajun dish with a variety of seafood and sausage. Bravo to HQG for turning what was previously a dud of a location into a hopping downtown bistro with an atmosphere comparable to Ginger and Crush but with even better food and service. We need to go more often!

Had a very nice dinner. The atmosphere is casual with bar light and a combination of rustic Alaska and downtown cool. The staff was great and the food very nice. We ordered wine and a local craft beer and an appetizer of steamer clams. The clams were never delivered because the waitress forgot to put in the order but it was no big deal because the pepper steak I ordered was so huge there was no way I could have eaten it after appetizers. My wife had the kabobs served on a bed of rice with grilled veggies. Again very tasty. Raspberry and chocolate mousse topped off the meal. I plan to return to explore the menu further.

Came tonight with a large group. The server was attentive and food arrived hot and fresh. Tried duck spring rolls, ahi, and halibut appetizers and preparation and execution of each was perfect. Ive been dreaming of the blackened prime rib since I had it in Eagle River over 3 years ago. While the sauce and spice was what I remembered I ended up with a medium well portion instead of the medium rare I had envisioned. The result was a cut less tender, not the melt in your mouth bit of luxury that I was craving. Maybe next time, this place is great and my wife said her kebabs of filet were a perfect rare. Thanks for moving into town, we"ll be back.

This was hands down the finest dining in all of Eagle River. They shut the doors just like that and will now be reborn in Anchorage, where "fine dining" is a couple of notches higher. Bring that killer French onion soup and that delectable duck dish. And the rest of a killer menu and truly professional staff. High hopes. You can make it happen. P.S. Now I'll have to drive from the Valley clear to Anchorage.... still worth it. :-)

I'm not just being nice with 5 stars. Super friendly staff! Extremely good food! And the atmosphere was perfect for a date. Trendy, contemporary, yet cozy and personal. I would highly recommend the Seared Ahi Tuna, and the Mahi Mahi special was the best Mahi dish I've ever tasted. Go here tonight!

Great food and nice atmosphere! We just got a range of appetizers and did tapas style - all were delicious! Can recommend the halibut chunks, gnocchi, duck spring rolls, and ahi tuna! Service was good and we booked a reservation using opentable and we're sat within 2 min of arrival.

extremely friendly staff. great bartenders and waiters. the food was well cooked but some of the flavors were very rich with alot of flavor. not a bad thing but it takes time to finish a dish. all in all great experience.

There is not a better 4 or 5 star restaurant in town for the price. They have the premier wine collection in downtown Anchorage. Best bang for your $$$ weather you are in shorts or a suit & tie. Alex Perez the owner has all fresh organic produce brought in from the Mat-SU (Area approximately 40 miles outside of Anchorage for you out-of-towners) valley a large portion of what they serve to include beer is all from the local or the state of Alaska. Amazing cooks. If you are looking to do an awesome dinner with a large group of 6 to 8 they offer up a chef's table. Pretty nice bar area with a myriad mixed drink menu with staff creations and familiars. Excellent downtown location for those who love the downtown scene or are visiting but staying at one of the downtown hotels. (425 W. 4th ave.) Friday nights is usually a filet mignon special and whatever special Alex or the staff comes up with I haven't felt is was anything short of amazing! Good staff, awesome atmosphere and in my mind the best food I have had in almost twenty years of Anchorage!

Definitely worthy of 4 stars. Seated immediately, although a strange dude, the waiter did a good job. If you like salads the blue cheese pear salad is tasty. I had the blackened prime rib which was cooked to perfection. We'll be back for sure and I would highly recommend this place to visitors.

I have eaten here twice, with fairly large groups. The food is reasonably good although tends to be heavy (the slightly sweet bread dipping sauce is "interesting"). There is a nice variety of tasty appetizers. The specialty wine pours are ridiculously over priced. The desserts are all good. Where they could improve considerably is the service. Each time I was there we had to ask for water refills multiple times and then only the person asking for water had their glass filled; forks were removed after salads but not replaced until asked. Wait staff seemed to be tripping over each other but with little coordination. The worst and most insulting is when a particularly quiet member of our party asked on multiple occasions for butter for his bread and the waiter finally responded out of the blue with a very insulting comment about the guest's weight and whether he needed the butter. The remark was intended for one, but everyone at the table heard it. totally uncalled for.

the food is good, the prices are steep, the staff are very friendly, and the owner is THE worst person I've had to confront in an attempt to order a decent bottle of wine. She literally poisoned the atmosphere with her petty attempt to bully me into believing the wine i had ordered was a proper bottle. During the taste pour i noticed a defect with the cork allowing the wine to pool above the seal. the first pour tasted sour and not in accordance with previous bottles I had ordered in more reputable establishments. I decided that i would like a new bottle opened and that's when this she-devil decided to swoop in and attempt to embarrass me and my party into purchasing that particular bottle of sour wine. She claimed that she was the only one that knew what she was talking about and even when the clear message of "take this wine away from me" she insisted on shoving another glass and her innocuous presence in our faces. She can ruin a night out like herpes can ruin a night in.

(4)Nick W.
Everything from the drinks to the dresser were amazing. Portions were good sized and meat was cooked to perfection. The desert menu is large and all are delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone over any other restraint like this in Anchorage.
(5)Scott L.
Gnocchi was to die for! Blackened Prime rib was amazing as well. We drank an exquisite red wine for a reasonable price (Stags Leap @ $13 a glass). Definitely recommend a visit if your in town
(4)Chauncey H.
(5)Richard N.

(4)Brian W.
(4)Jennifer S.
Gorgonzola gnocchi was amazing as well as the seafood pasta, and the blood orange martini was one of the best cocktails I've ever had.
(5)Bill R.

(4)Jim C.
(5)Jennifer T.
(2)Jennifer M.
(5)Loren R.

(5)Jeff G.

Good design, clean interior and excellent service. I knew I was going to like the place, and I wasn't disappointed. From drinks to meals to dessert, it was a nice intimate experience for my girlfriend and I, in a beautiful open area. I enjoyed it all.

I think their tap lines are dirty. Been here more than once and the draft beer has a funk. Food is great and so is the staff.
(4)Geoff B.
the food is amazing it's comparable with Sach's pricing and every bit as good, they do have a patio and the front of the building opens on nice days. I have yet to have a dish here I did not like.
(5)Robert G.
Had a nice meal here tonight. Good food. Good service. Nice apps and entree selection. Nice decor. On par with Sullivan's or Simons.

Some of the best food in Anchorage.

Best food and service in Anchorage!

(5)Diana V.

Very good, especially for the area. Nice wine list, great atmosphere and fresh ingredients.

(5)Steve R.

(5)James S.
(5)Ben F.
extremely friendly staff. great bartenders and waiters. the food was well cooked but some of the flavors were very rich with alot of flavor. not a bad thing but it takes time to finish a dish. all in all great experience.
(4)Jeremiah L.
(5)Rob S.
