I had a salad and the shrimp so I can't attest for anything else on the menu. BUT the place was clean and the wait person was very nice and somewhat attentive to my needs. I say that because I ordered a soda and ask if it was bottomless which would indicate I would be needing a refill.. She never showed back up to offer a refill so I ended up having to drink some water also. It wasn't as bad as some city waters I've had so not a big deal. The salad was fresh and good and when they say the shrimp are a little spicy they are not joking. Cleaned out my sinuses but didn't make my eyes water. It's a very nice place and I would suggest you bring your best girlfriend here for dinner sometime.

Oh my goodness I love love LOVE this restaurant! The food is always served hot and is always delicious, the decor is the perfect amount of Italian clutter and makes it feel very homey. When ever I walk in the door I feel like family, I absolutely love this place!

Always good service and great food and a great selection of wine. One of my favorites!

This place is THE BEST I've been eating their food for 16 years, I now live out of state and every time I come to Anchorage I HAVE TO EAT HERE!!! It's the BEST Italian food in town hands down!!

I love this place! It's placed in a weird area - residential off of Spenard but it's family owned and the food is great. I would definitely recommend the sauteed mushrooms and involtini de pollo dish. They also have an extensive bar.

I heard about this place though a friend. So I thought id took my newly wed bride out to a nice Italian dinner. That was not the case. They brought out a glass of spoiled milk. I brought this to there attention and was scoffed at. The salad dressing also seemed rancid. The eggplant was so bad I told them I couldn't eat it. They were very rood and charged me for the nasty salads we didn't hardly touch and we left with out eating. Absolutely horrible.

I have patronized Fiore d'Italia since 1997 and it is my go to restaurant for Italian food. I think the food is amazing, especially the stuffed chicken with guapa sauce. My other favorite is the veggie calzone . Some of the entrées leave you hungry (ravioli) but most are very filling and you will bring home a doggie bag. I'm not fond of the pizza myself but my daughter likes it. They also have private party facilities but I don't think the food quality is as good as when they are serving one on one. The owners are also servers and the cooks and they believe in their restaurant. I would say the only downfall is they close for the entire month of August. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Love the pizza. Quiet, out of the way place, known to few. They are on vacation from August 2 thru September 3, 2014. The wine selection is good too. Current road work on Spenard Rd makes this a challenge to get to. Hopefully when they open back up, it will no longer be a problem. Make the effort, it is worth it.

Great hospitality and food !!! A real surprise for someone from San Francisco- the foodie mecca. Loved the owners and the way they made you feel welcome and like you were part of the family.

I was really hoping that after reading the reviews that this place was going to be a geode( rough looking on the outside but marvelous on the inside.) I only got food to go, but can share my experience either way. The outside looks like a run down saloon from the pioneer days. The inside is at least interesting with a bar the looks like it was designed for umpa loompas, as it is like 2' tall. I ordered the lasagna and it was hidden in cheese. Which was a good idea, because the rest of it really lacked in flavor. And I love cheese. They offered me a salad or soup with it and I chose the soup... Not good at all. The oil on top was a about a centimeter thick. And it was more like a gruel. It was edible but not great, not really even good. And it had Frozen vegetables in it. Anyway... I hope you have better luck then we did.

From the outside, its hard to tell if this is a restaurant or a strip club.I've never been in such a perfectly preserved piece of 70's history though. Well, maybe other than Gwennie's. The mirrors walls are disconcerting. I hate watching myself eat. But nostalgia is fun. I could imagine this being the hopping place back when. The fried mozzarella was good, freshly made and very filling. It's a plate for 3-4 people. the garlic bread was full of butter and delicious. The Fettuccine Carbonara was hot but the sauce was a little thin - not as cheesy as would have been ideal.Baklava was too sweet. We couldn't finish it. It wasn't bad, but not great either.

Food was just ok will never go there again. Don't waste your money pizza Olympia is much better. Service was horrible and the owner was one of the rudest people I've ever met. I tripped in their doorway and they blamed me for it and accused me of being drunk because when I arrived there I asked if this was a restaurant and because I asked the person outside who turned out to be the owner, well I only asked because it was in middle of a neighborhood. I asked if they should fill out an incident report or something the owner came out yelling at my mother and I calling us drunks when in fact we don't drink. Rude rude rude owner and chased and followed me out the door

Keeping it short. Wandered across town to try some place "new" (to me). Certainly off the beaten path. Had strange greeting, just was weird, but after that the service was very friendly and attentive. The food wasn't anything special but it wasn't bad. The interior, while possibly dated, was clean and welcoming. I'd come back if in the area or taking somebody else that hasn't been, and if you live in West or SW Anchorage it's worth at least a try.

Rude server that ruined our first time experience. Heard only good things about the place, only to experience rude service.

I was completely unsatisfied with the customer service here. I called in an order and was told it would take almost 2 hours. While this is ridiculous, I decided to plan for a late dinner and put in the order. After over two hours I called to check in and the owner yelled when he answered something indistinguishable. I asked if this was the restaurant and if there was an order being delivered. He screamed, I told you such and such time! I informed him I was actually told by his server it would take just under two hours. His estimated time was going to be almost three hours! He screamed he was too busy, which is confusing because he was telling me he didn't want to make the $100 on my family's order, and said he was too busy tonight. Then he told me I should just cancel the order. I did. He was rude, abrupt, and incredibly disappointing. I had heard such great things about this place, but that ruined it for me. I've worked in the service industry for years and this is just plain unacceptable! If you can't handle having a busy Friday in a small city, then you shouldn't run an establishment. This.place .sucks. Then I just called to make sure they voided my order because it was pending on my bank account and he literally screamed so loud at me all of this information about how wrong I was about the time I ordered, which I had a time on my call from my phone and he was wrong-his server did not ring the order in immediately through the credit card machine. Then he said, you come here now and see my slip because I am not an idiot! And continued to scream at me. I didn't even raise my voice-I gave him no reason to become so incredibly unacceptable and disrespectful. This is outrageous!!! I cannot even believe how someone would just yell at a customer, and I was very calm on the phone. He was insanely rude and hot tempered and kept yelling over me telling him to just void the transaction and screamed that I was an idiot. NEVER GO There! People like this should not be patronized. It's a shame they are in the Anchorage community where so many people pride themselves on treating each other kindly here. Disgusted.

Love this place. My partner and I are total foodies and when first going here we thought that this place may not be for us just because of outdoor appearance. To the contrary! The staff is SO nice! The drinks are good and the food is amazing! I find the atmosphere to be unique. It kind of reminds me of a haunted home which is kind of fun. Definitely our favorite Italian restaurant!

I rarely rate a place with two stars. But if I was craving Olive Garden over a local Italian restaurant afterwards...it had to happen. I really wanted to like this place. For years, I've wanted to go here not only for the reviews online, but from word of mouth from a cook that worked there and others. I finally had the chance to go yesterday a few minutes after they opened and was greeted my a nice lady that led a friend and I to a table. Then that's when the bad things started to happen. Our waiter seemed inattentive...as if we were bugging him. When we asked for lemon with our water, he did come back with some...but our thank you's didn't register to him- he simply walked away. I ordered the mellanzana rollatine (a stuffed eggplant dish) and my friend ordered the chicken Alfredo. When our meals came out, I noticed a plate covered in mozzarella placed in front of me...seriously? No "you're welcome" after my thank you..again! My friends plate looked nice and he liked his pasta, however, I tried hard to like my plate. The marinara sauce was nice, but was watery because of the seriously undercooked eggplant, the overcooked penne pasta that I wasn't aware that came with my meal and the thick layer of cheese that covered my entire plate. I MIGHT try this place again, but if I do, I'll get something basic...which doesn't make sense to do in all honesty. If you have an Italian restaurant with an Italian name and/or menu items in italian, it should be pretty authentic. Italians don't use THAT much cheese in their dishes.

I'm writing this after hearing my girlfriend's experience ordering delivery food from this establishment. Having re-heated the left overs I can attest one thing. Costco. Upon eating the cheese ravioli's I said, "Did these come from Costco? -- I've bought these before!" The calamri she had ordered was also a Costco brand. I have bought and made these myself at home. For the prices she paid, I feel she was cheated. Some of the Safeway Select frozen raviolis are quite good, and can be baked with canned/jarred sauce for a fraction of the price. They may have put their own cheese on top, but I'm pretty sure that was also bought at Costco.

Alaska already lacks good Italian restaurants and Fiori D'Italia is not making it any better. I got Seafood Calzone and they did not add any seafood to it. The portions are gigantic, cheesy, and not authentic. The staff seemed very arrogant. They think their place is the best in town. Well, they are wrong. Sorry :-/

We ordered food,Interior was "temperature" cold to point of uncomfortableness. We complained, unresponsive, We left. The manager-cook-owner came out to parking lot to scold us reminiscent of the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld. The restrooms are not handicapped accessible 20 stairs straight up. A most unpleasant experience overall.

It's been a few months since I've been here, but all in all, there are strong feelings about Fiori D'Italia. It was a hard restaurant to find, so that was a little annoying. But once inside, its dim lighting and wood-interior feels a little romantic. I ordered a glass of wine but was denied since I didn't have my ID on me (kudos for them, too bad for me). The scampi was a bit too salty for me but the bread & oil was of high quality.

This place is great. Service was the friendliest I've had in a long time. Food is fantastic. My only suggestion would be to update the decor.

We decided on short notice to go out for pizza the other night with visiting family. We called a couple places and stopped at one, but they turned out to be food court, or they couldn't accommodate us. I saw a blurb on Yelp about Fiori D'Italia, and gave them a call. Yes, they could take a party of 14, including three 4 year-olds, and would start putting the tables together while we drove over. It turned out to be a charming family restaurant, one of a kind, which I love, as opposed to chains, and a bit off the beaten track, which to me adds to the charm. The decor was warm and inviting without being foo foo. Subdued, but not dark. Our table was set and waiting for us. Nice! The staff were warm and gracious, and helped us enjoy our evening in every way they could. They made us feel comfortable, even with kids sitting on the ends of the table. We were going to make an exception and let the kids have soft drinks, but hesitated at $3.00 a can. The staff again made it work by offering Shirley Temples from the bar at $2.50 a kid, with free refills, including the spills. The pizza seemed to be about $20-$25 an extra large, and they were good. Thinner crust, crunchy on arrival. I ate a lot more than I should have. I think everyone did, which was why we were able to put away 4, with minimal leftovers. I am hesitant to pull the trigger on 5 stars because we had only pizza, so I can't say a lot about the rest of the food, though it looked inviting. But the service was great. We don't go out to eat a lot, in part because we cook pretty good food at home, and because of the hassle. When I do go out I look for places that make me feel as one of a kind as they are, and who understand what it takes to have a family night out. I thank Fiori D'Italia for giving us a pleasant last evening with our family from the Lower 48, and will keep them in mind. I will also give the veal parmigan a shot next time. :)

I had high hopes that the time it took me to find this place would pay off... but sadly that was not the case. Although the staff were friendly and the wine selection was good, the food was not. I ordered the Veal Parmesan. It was thick, overcooked, and had the consistency of pot roast. Veal parm is supposed to be thinly pounded and tender :/ Furthermore, the red sauce on top was extremely bland. I am sticking with my trusted Bummer...

I normally dont eat out Italian because your normally can cook it better yourself. But. Fiori's is excellent! The ingredients are fresh, the food Is always delivered hot. The one time I dined in I was a little confused as to the set up of the restaurant and what the style they were going for but the food speaks for itself. I'm not crazy about the Calimari o's with marinara sauce though.

This is one of my wife and I's favorite places to eat and have a drink , quiet and cozy with good service. As for the food, the "Wayne's" steak (Ny with grappa sauce and roasted potatoes) and the Involtini di pollo (chicken stuffed with proscuitto and cheese are up with the best dishes that we have had anywhere, great place!

Once again I have to update Fiori's. I am going to be honest. These folks are the nicest people/owners I have ever meet. They run the place as a Family. I have gone in and tried to find something wrong with the food so I could point it out to Jenn. I have news for you all, "It ain't happen'in", Period. If you are in town, and you want some of the best food you will ever try. This is the place. I do need to try try their pizza's, I will let you know, but something tells me....5 Stars ALWAYS!

OMG I died and went to Italian Heaven!! Perfetto! For starters my husband and I had The Cheese sticks which were hand made and about the size of hot dogs, they were paired with a delicious homemade red sauce which is like nothing Ive ever tasted before.. quite simply the best Mozzo sticks Ive ever had! Next we had Soup and Salad served with the freshest Garlic Bread.. A perfect Pairing of Butter and Garlic on homemade bread:-) For our main courses I had Fettuccine, with Olives, Prosciutto, and sauteed Mushrooms smothered with a white wine Alfredo. My Husband had A large chicken breast breaded and filled with prosciutto, spices and a mixture of melted cheese. All served atop a bed of rigatoni in a Garlic Alfredo sauce. The names I can not remember since the entire menu is in Italian.. To finish off our prefect meal we ordered the Chocolate Cake to go.. A VERY LARGE, moist Triple Chocolate cake tied together with a drizzle of a rich dark chocolate. I feel I may not need to eat for another week.. and my waistline may have expanded a few inches but Fiori D' Iatalia was well worth it! This place is AMAZING and will be a place we take friends and family whenever they are in town!!

I don't know how this place has stayed in business. As if the weird location wasn't enough, the food is bad too. I lived in Italy for a year and I visit annualy- this is not Itlian food. I had eggplant parmesan and it was basically a plate full of greesy cheese. My Venetian boyfriend ordered something. It was so forgettable I don't even remeber what it was, I just remember we were out $30 and we didn't even eat half of it.

Food was OK, I've tasted better in Anchorage. The wait time from ordering until eating was so long, I thought they flew back to Italy to get it and the place wasn't very busy. The bread they gave us while we waited was dry and the clam chowder I had was very thin. The prices certainly didn't match the quality...I was very disappointed!!!

Ate here for dinner recently with a friend. We ordered a bottle of wine, appetizers, entrees and dessert. Total bill was about $100. We had the calamari to start. Fairly boring. Friend had veal and I had eggplant as our entrees. These came with soup or salad. Both were good. My meal was gigantic. It was pretty greasy but ok tasting. I took home 1/2 as leftovers that reheated nicely. I enjoyed the cheesecake but friend wasn't impressed with her baklava. Service was friendly until we paid. We hung out a little bit. It was a weeknight and lots of tables available and we wanted to finish our wine. We had left a 20% tip but the waitress never checked on us again. Both of our water glasses were empty. Minor point but I found it irritating. The decor is interesting and the location provides loads of parking and is a little off the beaten path. It was an ok dinner but nothing I'll go out of the way to try again.

I still, to this day, cannot figure out why I did not come here earlier in my time in Anchorage. I will never order anything but the mozzarella & cream sauce stuffed and breaded chicken breast. OH MY GOD. (That's all I kept saying, for the entire visit and afterward. I probably sounded like Meg Ryan in "When Harry Met Sally".) The service was great, the decor is heavily Italian, and the drink selection is wonderful. My husband and I are very into our imported beer, and there were a number on their HUGE list that we hadn't tried yet.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
