Awesome restaurant! I was there for breakfast and had the Bavarian Apple Pancake with bacon. I ordered the small pancake (still a lot of food). The pancake was absolutely delicious and reminded me of Germany or Austria. The bacon was perfect. The best bacon I have had a breakfast place in a while. I sat at the counter and had a chance to talk with the owners and they were the nicest people. I will definitely be back and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to Anchorage.

This place is a hidden gem for Belgian beer lovers. Most Anchorage locals know of it, but I don't think it gets much foot traffic from visitors. It's a small, intimate cafe located on Benson in the Metro Mall, right across from the Sears Mall. Owned by Ken and Shauna Pajak. Ken was a brewer at the Regal Eagle Brewpub in Eagle River. He now offers some of the best Belgian and local beer selections in the city at Cafe Amsterdam. You enter into an area, reminiscent of a street cafe, with a few tables and chairs off in the corner near the window wall which, by the way, lets in tons of sunlight. That is especially appreciated during the winter months when sun is at a premium. If you arrive for dinner and there is a waiting line you can enjoy a great beverage at the bar or one of the cafe tables. The dining area is quaint, has an intimate feeling in the winter evening when it's dark outside and the lights of the restaurant are dimmed. It's nice to note that the full menu can be had at the bar in the cafe entry as well as in the dining room. The beer menu is usually heavy on bottled Belgians, with a few of them on tap along side some great local offerings. You won't find any Bud, Miller or Coors in this place. The wait staff is knowledgable with regards to the beer, but if you really want answers talk to Ken or Shauna. One of them is always there. They are quick to offer alternatives to those that come in and ask for a Bud. Doing their part to spread the word of good beer. There are usually 16 or so beers on tap (a few from Midnight Sun and Glacier Brewhouse, Unibroue, Chimay and others, I've seen meads and ciders on tap as well) and somewhere in the vacinity of 80 bottle selections. For example: Orval 11 oz. $8.50, Westmalle 11 oz. $7.50-8.00, Abbaye Des Rocs 11.2 oz. $6.00-$6.50, Duvel 11 oz. $4.50, Maredsous 10 750ml $13.50, Dupont Saison 750ml $11.50, Liefman's Gluhkriek 12oz. $9.00. A few French ales like Castelain Blond Biere de Garde 750ml $15.00 and a few English ales like Fullers 1845 16oz. for $6.00. There are some German ales and lagers like Einbecker Pils 11oz. $5.00. American and Canadian offerings are from Unibroue, Ommegang or local. The beers are always served in the appropriate glassware and at the appropriate temperature, a big plus. The beer menu changes depending on what's available. This list is just a partial. I want to remind anyone reading this that my take on assigning $$ value to this place is based on the fact that I live here and I find their prices to be reasonable as compared to other places in this area. Visitors from outside may find them expensive. The food menu is ever changing as well. Seasonal specials are common for the menu and I believe the menu is changed weekly or so with some items remaining the same for each menu. They serve breakfast all day, every day and have the best eggs benedict in town. Lunch offers many varieties of sandwiches, both hot and cold. Big salads are a staple on the lunch menu as well. There is a fantastic artisan cheese plate available also! The breakfast and lunch menu are served from 7a -9p. They used to have a night menu, but no longer....AND beginning May 3, 2009, they will be open on Sundays! For dessert maybe a burnt cream or brownie sundae ($5 each). They've also been known to throw beer dinners during the fall and winter months. This is a place that we enjoy visiting once a month or so. If you find yourself in Anchorage, stop by and check it out. Something I should mention; Cafe Amsterdam is the only place, that I know of, in town that does a slow-pour pilsner, when they have it on tap.

Wow. I only wanted egg, bacon, and potatoes. The bacon wasn't done enough for my taste, so I sent it back. They microwaved it. WHAT?!?! That's a crime! When the bill came, there was $1 more than expected. Asked what that was, the server said it was the English muffin. I mentioned that she didn't tell us it was going to cost more, so I said removing it would be the right thing. She argued with me! Do the right thing, and don't argue! Ugh!!! She went to the manager, who didn't even come over to apologize. The busser/actual server was AWESOME. He should work for a place that cares to do the right thing. Needless to say my sister (a local prominent realtor) and I will not be returning.

Great breakfast. Love Eggs Benedict, and Cafe Amsterdam as well as the Red Chair downtown have the two best in all of Anchorage. Both have a great (yet very different) atmosphere, but both serve a great Breakfast.

Had breakfast around 7:50am. Was greeted after a minute wait and given a glass of water immediately after. Ordered the Eggs Benedict; a very delicious and rich plate. The atmosphere and service was great. The only reason I gave this restaurant three stars was, because of the employee politics. When an employee does something wrong or if you are unhappy with someone, do not express your dissatisfaction in front of the costumers. Everything was perfect until I had to hear negative comments while trying to enjoy my first meal of the day. Please keep the politics behind closed doors. I am willing to go back, but if I have to hear more about the restaurant's internal affairs, then there won't be a next time.

This place is interesting. First you feel like you are walking into a bar, next you feel like you are in someone's living room. At the back of the room is an open kitchen lay out. My biggest turn off was the chef who wore shorts, a tee shirt, and ate bits of food while he cooked food. Food was mediocre at best. I will not be back.

Great breakfast. Good and fast service. Go there all the time for breakfast and end up ogling at the beer selection.

Forget about their omelette, which was pretty good. Forget about the salad dressing, which was super delicious. Remember the tall skinny bus boy, he was just so awesome, always there to fill up my cup of coffee or water, they're never empty, haven't been to a restaurant with such good refill service, it's always me looking at my empty glass wanting more H2O!! Yeah, love the bus boy, I remember him the most from the cafe hahaha...other than that, a little more expensive than Snow City Cafe, but pretty homey cozy feeling which I enjoyed.

The food and drinks are not the issue here - it's the time it takes to get them. We walked in and noticed the entire wait staff and the entire kitchen staff were all sitting around talking. I had to physically get up and find our waitress and give her our order. Then we ordered a drink from her, but she went to the bar and just talked to the bar tender for 10 min and forgot about my drink! We didn't have a lot of time so it was stressful. Mom (a restaurant owner) said she would come in here and fire everyone - ugh!!!!

Very unique place to have breakfast. Service was exceptional the two times I've been. The first time it was rocking busy. I expected like most breakfast places, the breakfast potatoes would be nothing but filler. They actually were seasoned well and ended up accompanying the eggs benedict. I like my red onions so that may sway my opinion of this place, since they include those with breakfast. My husband on the other hand doesn't and held off the onion and replaced the potatoes. I would challenge anyone to find a cleaner place in town. They are meticulous and this might have something to do with staff, but clean is hard to find anymore.

From the moment I walked in, the manager treated me with complete disrespect. I went to join my husband and friends for a drink while on my way back from work. I asked the manager if I could pull up a chair, and she frowned and turned away, annoyed. After waiting a while, I drank some water on the table and took a sip of my husbands beer to try it. The manager then comes over and said to me, "it's one thing to pull up a chair, but to drink a beer and not check your id is really effed up." Well, if she actually acknowledged my arrival, I would have been offered me a menu and my id checked after I sat down. Also, I'm almost 30. I will never go back here, and I feel bad for the servers and employees under her management. Not to mention, I would never treat a customer the way she did.

Tough call. On one hand, you want to go there for the great beer selection & vibe. On the other hand, you don't want to support a business that treats its employees as bad as the owners wife has been known to do. We've all seen (& heard) her belittle her employees in front of customers, its common knowledge & written about in many reviews. So, what do you do? Personally, I can't support them. I'd like to, but I just can't bring myself to go in anymore. I think Cafe Amsterdam & Table 6 are equal in that respect, which is why I'll pass from now on.

This is the perfect confluence of good food, good beer, and good people. We were visiting in and around the Anchorage area for a week before our cruise. Tourists, yes, but trying to avoid the usual tourist places. The great reviews on Yelp actually were what prompted me to come not to Cafe Amsterdam, but to La Bodega, the excellent beer/wine/booze shop a few doors down. I saw Cafe Amsterdam while there, looked up the reviews, and knew this was my next destination! We stopped by for a delicious dinner (homemade pierogi are a win in my book anytime!) , then wound up coming back the next day for breakfast when our original plans fell through. We stopped by just after they closed on a Sunday evening afterward and the owners remembered us and invited us in for a quick round. There followed an hour of great beer and great conversation about the craft beer circuit in Southeastern Alaska and in fact several places in the Lower 48! These folks know their beers and are happy to share their knowledge and chat over some excellent brews. They made us feel very welcome and were one of our best finds in Anchorage! (As a side note: check out the cocktails they make with local meads. I was doubtful, but they were delicious!)

Absolutely rude! The owner is such a mean person, and she does not care about her patrons. Sad because it has a good beer selection, but it is over priced.

  • Katie M.

Strange beginning to a disappointing meal. Our server was awesome-we were greeted quickly, sat fast and received our food very quickly as well. The problem was the manager (or owner?) who was unnecessarily rude about where my friend could place her sleeping baby in a carrier. It could be that she has terrible people skills but if that's the case, she should not be in the front of house. The food quality was low-chewy, dry turkey on my friend's melt and cheap, bag mix salad. For the amount I paid I would've expected salad that was a little fresher and house made. I haven't eaten here in years and probably won't revisit.

Very poor experience!!! I just wanted a coffee and I told the guy this when he offered me a menu. Apparently the training waitress feels no matter what I have to take the menu and was upset with me and the guy even though he tried to give me one and I kindly refused!!! Very rude experience!!!

I love this place! Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable. My mom and I were on vacation from Cali and wanted a place with good food and a unique ambiance. We found it here! The Ruben on fresh dark rye was delicious, unlike anything I ever had before. I asked for a side of seafood chowder (quite tasty) and cole slaw (crisp and fresh) - both were up to par with exactly what I was looking for. Sitting at the bar made us feel like we were in Europe. We posted a picture on Facebook and my cousins in Austria instantly recognized the impressive beer selection. Thanks Cafe Amsterdam!!

  • Jenny C.

I give it a 3.5. It's a pretty cute cafe. Sitting next to the window is nice, but it gets really cold (in the winter). Read the reviews about their diverse beer menu and I really wanted to try, but didn't get the change to :( Had their eggs benedict and it is really good. Almost to perfection. The potatoes that come with it are really good as well! I don't know what seasoning they use, but it's damn good. At first bite, it tasted like kimchi jjigae (korean stew) hahaha. Maybe it was just me....lol. Wanted to try their burgers, but will try it the next time I visit Alaska. Also had their coffee Amsterdam by recommendation, but it was ehh. Nothing special. Now I'm craving for their side potatoes...

Great local spot in mid-town. Laid back vibe. Breakfast! They serve breakfast all day. Vundarbar! What's even better, they have a insane collection of craft brew with emphasis on Belgians. Good choice for lunch and dinner. Cafe Amsterdam, I heart you guyz!

This is a great place to hang out and enjoy some great beers from around the world. Ken does a great job of bringing in some real gems. Although the menu is limited the beer list is exceptional. As I have mentioned in the past this is the place to go find a great beer and enjoy the afternoon or evening. The people are very knowledgeable of what they have so just let them know what you like and they will set you up with a couple of choices. Or order the flight of samples for $6 and try something new.

Nice slice of Americana. There is a very odd assortment of brunch places in Anchorage and this is one is good (and not overly strange). The place is decorated very old school, do-dads and nick-nacks everywhere. They have a more German vibe then a Dutch one despite the name. The Salmon Benedict was a typical diner showing. No too greasy, everything was edible, but nothing stood out. Waitstaff was fairly attentive, which for Anchorage is a blessing worthy of at least three stars.

Wow, i am going to try and be fair, their food looks great. Although extremely overpriced! Considering they were not busy the service was crap, came in and sat for about 10 minutes and was not acknowledged once. Got up and left. Not happy. If you are going to demand those prices then people need to demand equal or better service. All in all a big fail for mothers day! Boooo

The interior is slightly cheesy paintings, lanterns with wooden dutch slippers, and nice servers criss crossing the floor. The bathrooms are clean, though could use an air freshener as there isn't any circulating air. I used to come here all the time, or at least twice a month. I loved the croissant beatrix, which is a couple of poached eggs atop a croissant smothered in hollandaise sauce. The breakfast potatoes fried in herbs and spices divine. If lunch was on the mind I would have ordered the Thai Veggie Croissant, which is a bunch of veggies tossed in a peanut sauce on top of a croissant. Comes with a soup or salad. In the last four years the prices have increased with every year with the sauces less lovely than the last. I still love the breakfast, but have become disenchanted with the prices and the increasing blandness of the tastes.

Owner had a genuine melt-down when we pulled two small tables together...place was empty. Food was so-so and way over-priced. Decor is tired and the place looked grungy. Won't darken their doorway again!

  • John S.

The most impressive beer list in Anchorage. No doubt about it. I even got a rare treat to drink my favorite -- and largely unknown-- German beer, Reissdorf Koelsch. The food is wonderful. I've had both the German sausage plate, and the Reuben sandwich. The Reuben was one of the best I've ever had. If it wasn't such a calorie-monster I would have eaten two! The decor is so-so, and it's in a completely unimpressive shopping center. They get a D or C in design taste, but make up for it with their beer and solid food...

I must say that I came to Cafe Amersterdam with high expectations as a friend had introduced me to their beer menu online. The beer selection did not disappoint but I found the food menu both limited and over priced. We each had a $7.50 salad and split a $20 appetizer with sliced meats & some cheese. They did accommodate our request for an order of olives on the side, which was not on the menu. While the beer list was extensive, they had advertising/signage for a number of beers on the wall, many of which were mot offered, which was frustrating. If I'm in town again I'd stop in for a drink but probably eat somewhere else.

Second time here but I have to say their eggs benedict was so good for as busy as it was. Wide selection of beer, I tried the organic hard apple cider, very light and refreshing on a very hot day. The nice waiter helped choose that one:)

Avocado melt is delicious and the service is great. Quaint little restaurant, just like the ones I've been to in Europe. And a beautiful bar!!! Definitely come back again. Probably for some beer!! Three whole pages of beer and wine selections!! Great art adds for a relaxed family restaurant. Open and in a great location.

  • Emily M.

Mediocre at best. The service was good, but I hate leaving a restaurant feeling like I could have made the same meal at home, only better (and I'm not that great of a cook). I had the Amsterdammer and my boyfriend had the Chicken curry sandwich. Both were very basic, bland, and over-priced. I do like that they serve breakfast all day, so I may have to give it a second chance for breakfast, but I will not be going back for lunch.

    (2)
  • Herschel F.

The Thai Vegetarian was very good. I was worried that the curry might be too strong but it was mixed just right with the peanut sauce. Surprisingly good!

The food is good they use great harvest bread and have a huge beer selection , but, the owner is rude to her staff and clients. Don't break any of her unpublished rules.

Why did it take me so long to come into this place? From the outside it doesn't look too appealing. It's in a strip mall, and looks like a pretty small space. Quite unsuspecting.. (Maybe that's the point) Once inside, you are treated awesome decor and an endless bounty of craft and import beers. It seems they rotate the draft selection quite often, so it's never the same stuff, which I love. The Bartender seemed to know a fair bit about the products as well, which is a dealbreaker for me. I did not eat here, only drank a couple of ales in here while I was waiting out traffic, but i a paroused the menu and it looks great. Mostly breakfast.. which is fine with me. I love Beer and Breakfast! this place also has a pretty impressive selection of meads, which is hard to come by.

I had ordered the high protein breakfast. two eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. Also coffee and OJ. All very good and cooked just right. It was a simple breakfast cooked like how it should be done. I have no complaints, other than wishing the OJ was fresh.

Breakfast served all day? Automatic 4 stars! Alright, lets keep this short and simple. Cafe Amsterdam is rather small, but the wait was well worth it. After eating my fair share of eggs benedicts on my trip I felt obligated to try something new, and the Bavarian Apple Cake caught my attention. Pancakes filled and topped with sauteed apples and cinnamon in brown sugar cream sauce! Yes, the taste buds were having a party. Still having room left I ordered the Chicken Avocado Melt. Two slices of Great Harvest bread broiled with melted Havarti cheese over chicken breast, layered with cream cheese, fresh spinach, artichoke heart spread, and fresh avocado, that's something I can eat everyday and I heavily recommend it.

Bavarian Apple Pancake!!! Been living near Seattle for the past 5 years. Love it here, and miss Alaska, too. One thing I've learned about Anchorage is it's pretty easy to know about the yummy cafes and happenings to catch. Not to complain, but down here there's so much stuff- it's really hard to filter through it all. In FIVE years time, I have not found a match to the amazing Apple Bavarian Pancake at Cafe Amsterdam in Anchorage, Alaska down here! Seattle area has tons of cafes and culture, but that really says something about the yummies in Anchorage. We have friends in Portland area, and we all complain about how much we miss the Bear's Tooth food and movies... They have some conceptual spots like that here, but it does NOT compare. Be thankful, Anchoragians!

Nice cozy place and good beer. Also tried the special for dinner, which was some kind of German meat loaf. It was decent.

Finally stopped back in and had the Bavarian Apple Pancake. It was very large so you may want to order the 1/2 order versus the full one. The pancake was wrapped around the sliced apples was excellent! The apples were well cooked just enough that they were slightly firm/crunchy. The sauce was bathed over the apples inside the pancake and over it. My one comment would be instead of a brown sugar cinnamon sauce I would prefer a vanilla sauce with cinnamon over everything.

One of the most largest and diverse beer menus in Anchorage. A nice bar area separate from the dining portion. The food menu is not too expansive but what they have on it is awesome, especially for breakfast. Yes the food isn't overly complicated but I don't want to make eggs benedict at home, nor can I compare with their amazing hollandaise sauce. The only Dutch dining tradition that I wish they expanded on more is that of the pannekoeken. The apple bake is good, but we need far far more of a selection when it comes to pannekoekens.

My wife and I stopped in here for some breakfast as the restaurant was close to our hotel. No wait during the week for this smallish establishment. The menu had some healthy breakfast options, including egg whites and veggie selections, but minimal choices for vegans The food was fair, but the homefries seemed undercooked. Coffee was good and strong. Service was right up there. We must return to quaff some delicious brew, as it appears they had an excellent list of Belgians and more difficult to find beers.

This place is very pretty in the bar area but walking into the dining area is kind of disappointing. It is clean and the fiesta dishware is pretty but that's about it for interesting. The food is extremely expensive for the portion sizes and bland to boot. At over 13.00 per plate for everything including basic Ruben sandwiches sprinkled sparsly with beef and piled with sauce and sauerkraut, it was a big disappointment. The eggs Benedict on croissant sounded so wonderful and at 15.00, I figured it would be great to share with my toddler. It was tiny!!! The serving of potatoes with was less than half a cup and both the meal and sides were very very bland. No seasoning what so ever, a big watery cold tomato making it soggy and holindasie that should just be called egg cream sauce due to the lack of flavor. Service was mediocre at best considering there was only one other table to wait on when we were there. I may have just caught them on an off day and might give them another chance but in general, there are a million other places to get better food at cheaper prices with much better portions. For 4 adults and one toddler who just shared, the bill was almost 70 dollars. No appetizers or desserts. Only drinks, main dishes and 2 sides of bacon. Most expensive lunch ever. Next time, ill just pop by Jens or Roadhouse :)

Great beer selection, decent but unremarkable European-ish food to eat while drinking a fancy beer or six. The beer menu has a lot of big numbers on it, but that's because these are expensive beers rather than because markups are unreasonable. Humpy's has a better selection of American microbrews, but Cafe Amsterdam easily has the best variety of European beers in Alaska (and, to their credit, have more "out there" American microbrews than Humpy's). Leave the PBR-drinking friends and relatives at home. I prefer the egg-centric breakfast menu to the sandwiches lunch/dinner menu but breakfast does have the drawback of not traditionally being a beer-drinking meal. Then again, if there was ever a place to drink a beer for breakfast, Cafe Amsterdam is it (I have done this, and it was awesome). For dinner, the specials are much more interesting than the regular menu. Anyway, go forth and drink.

I was wholly unimpressed with their food, their prices, and some of their service. Also, as a former food industry employee, I have zero interest in patronizing a business that verbally abuses its staff.

Went here once, and actually wouldn't mind going back, but there are so many places I haven't been yet. The food was the better half of ok, and lots of beer on tap, but as a warning, sodas are NOT free refill. That's bad for me as I will drink a couple with a meal while relaxing.

With so many places to eat in Anchorage, it's hard to find some of the gems amongst all the bigger attractions. You may not hear about Café Amsterdam as "the place to go to get (insert food/drink here)" like you would some of the downtown places but that's a good thing. Sometimes these downtown places are hard to get parking, long wait times and others things that delay tasty things making their way to your palate. Located in the same plaza as Great Harvest Bread (across from Sears Mall), you've got lots of parking, easy wait times and the beer is fantastic. Did I say the beer is fantastic? I'll say it again because it merits saying again; fantastic. First of all they have an amazing selection of European beers, especially Belgian ones. There are some beers here that I haven't seen anywhere else. With a laid back, true café atmosphere, and new specials; you can expect to something new with every visit. My first trip in was primarily for beer but I had a late breakfast consisting of the Bavarian Apple Pancake I got the large pancake and it was most certainly that, large. I like a big plate of food so this was perfect, even though I couldn't finish all of it. The apples were fresh and the sauce was a perfect compliment; however it could have used some kind of caramelized nut of some kind, like pecans or walnuts. The other items on the menu that I saw others eating looked rather tasty as well, however most of what is on the menu gravitates towards the breakfast side of things (not complaining). The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about their menu, especially the beer. It makes me wonder if they only hire people that are beer drinkers. I am definitely looking forward to my next visit.

If it were about the beer selection alone, I would give Cafe Amsterdam five, nay, six stars! I haven't had breakfast there yet (sounds pretty delicious), but I'm of the mind that the quality of the dinners offered aren't quite worth the "CHA-CHING!" noise you hear in your head as you open the menu. FYI - sandwiches are on the back, and they are much cheaper than the entrees. I had the turkey avocado melt and was very pleased. Now, back to the beer. What a selection! On tap, you've got a wide variety of microbrews from all over the country (possibly the world), including some homegrown Alaskan beers. I believe that they rotate quite frequently. If you're feeling adventurous, the menu is full of bottle listings (much more beer in the menu than food). Their offerings are so wide-ranging that they actually organize their beers by country of origin. These are people that care about beer, and care about sharing it with others. Ask the waiter what he or she recommends, and you will probably find that they are engaged and interested. So, in short, if you really like beer, do yourself a favor and check out Cafe Amsterdam.

I wish they hadn't stopped serving dinner. The best Reuben you will find in Alaska and the German potato salad is without competition. Beer prices are a bit outrageous but they do carry quality beer so it's kindof hard to argue, although the same beers are found in other restaurants at less expensive prices. Please bring back dinner service and you'll get the fifth star from me! Highly recommended, Great Food, great staff....I miss dinner though.

Did I ever mention that I'm from Chicago? That one of the places I love best in Chicago is Germantown? In just one cafe I have the very best of Chicago's Germantown. The beer selection is always outstanding and it is served with breakfast, a Chicago tradition. This place even has German dinner specials after 5 pm. My Beloved and I first went here last year for a beer tasting hosted by the Anchorage beer brewers club. Wonderful group of people! My favorite dish is a variation of eggs benedict called Croissant Beatrix, which involves perfectly ripe avocadoes and a squiggle of sour cream. I usually order something Hefeweiss-y with this, light and fruity. Last week I went for a grilled sandwich and a Midnight Sun Coho, my favorite 'Sun' brew- very hoppy but with a strong grapefruit character. The staff is always right on top of what brew they have available. It is a delight to match beers with food under the guidance of people who 'get it'. my Beloved had the Reuben sandwich. He felt the corned beef was corned in-house, which does not surprise me. The cooking is European home-style in the good way. My Beloved and I have been here more times than any other place in the past year. I can't believe I forgot to review our favorite place. I was probably keeping it a secret as seating can get tight.

We ate here while visiting Alaska over the summer and it really is a hidden gem. Our hotel was nearby and we popped in looking for a quick dinner. The environment was cute and inviting and the food was fantastic! Our server recommended the blueberry dressing on the green salad and it was seriously out of this world delicious! The dressings are made in-house and the ranch was great too! The other item we tried was the Ruben and it was absolutely perfect! I left wishing this place were near my home so I could become a regular.

Heard really great things about this place but even as much as I wanted to like it, it fell short. It wasn't bad I just felt like I could have made the food myself and the decor was for sure an Amsterdam theme but a little to tacky for my taste.

Had breakfast there. The protein breakfast was awful. 2 small runny eggs, the ham was ok, nothing to rave about. Had yogurt instead of potatoes. That also was a mistake. A breakfast dissapointment.

Great service, great beer selection, and overall nice place. Eggs Benedict were awesome, dutch apple pancakes were huge and good. Potatoes could be better, coffee was also bitter. Overall a nice place with great service.

Awesome atmosphere, awesome beers, and good food. A burger was a bit pricey at $12-$13 dollars, but it was the best I'd had in Anchorage in a while. Check um out!

Great service, massive amount of drinks, wine, beers, ciders, and other, food selection is limited but good, albeit a bit on the pricey side. I took a date there, I had two drinks, she had one, and we had an appetizer with the meal and it came to about 75 dollars. Nice place to pop into for breakfast or lunch as well.

One of the best beer selections in Anchorage with a staff that knows their stuff. You know when you regularly find yourself sitting at the bar next to the brewmasters of some of the best breweries in town, you are in the right place. Can't comment of the food as we have never had more than a cheese plate and desert but look forward to trying the food soon.

Stopped in today, St. Patty's day to pick up some Corned beef and Cabbage for dinner. I knew I wasn't going out, and didn't want to cook, and I LOVE CB&C. It was about 1:30 pm and their lunch rush was over. There were maybe 5-6 tables occupied. They just didn't seem that busy. I first asked the bartender / order taker, if there was any way they could line my C/O container with foil, since I wasn't eating it for hours. "No". No explanation, just no. I then waited almost 25 minutes. C'mon, it is corned beef! Takes 3-4 hours to cook, so slice and package? Maybe they cooked the potatoes and carrots to order. Could be he case, as the potatoes were crunchy, and the carrots weren't pealed. The pealing was sliding off the carrot. The corned beef was so tough, well, were I not so hungry by the time I wanted my dinner, I would have tossed it. And no, I didn't reheat it in the microwave. 15 years in Anchorage and this was my very first visit to Cafe Amsterdam. I won't go back. Too many good places to waste my money on not so good.

great benedict florentine, the regular benedict and the Moluska (with lox!) are also really good. they all come with cottage potatoes that are yummy the cocoa comes with a dollop of home made whipped cream if it's warm out you must try the sparkling lemonade -so tangy! chicken avocado melt, grilled tuna and smoked turkey are all excellent the blueberry port vinaigrette is really good and the fruit crisp is the perfect end to a great lunch -if you have any room left

While my husband ran the Mayors marathon, I took myself out to breakfast! I have always seen this place, but have never been able to make it for breakfast When you first walk in there is a long bar with many beers on tap to choose from! To the left is the dining area! Since it was just me I set at the bar overlooking the kitchen! I ordered the eggs Benedict with cottage potatoes. The wait time for my food was very short and the eggs were amazing! The only reason why I didn't give this resultant 5 starts is because I felt like the food is a little overpriced. I will be back, but not as often as I would like because of the price

I have given this place so many chances- mainly because it's been here so long. Their service is good for the amount of people that come through, but it's not professional. The hosts, servers, and chefs are all wearing jeans and t-shirts. I've had nearly everything on the food menu and none of it is inspiring anymore. Every once in a while they will have an interesting special, but the prices for the meals don't match up with the taste. Everything has a very distinctive diner-taste to their dishes. Maybe I just don't like Belgian food? I appreciate that they have a wide menu for beer and wine with tasting notes, but that's it.

I have only been for the breakfast. The Croissant Beatrix: Two poached eggs on split warmed croissant with avocado, tomato, topped with hollandaise sauce and sour cream. Served with cottage potatoes IS THE BEST THING YOU WILL EAT! I love that think I have been over 10 times and think I have only ever had one other item. It was a drunken mistake ordering something else. The staff is friendly and they are busy most of the time. Parking is good a large lot. There is also a local bread place near by that's worth stopping into!

I came in once a couple of years ago and was shocked to have exactly the same experience today as two years ago where at least 10 tables were not being cleaned or bussed and the manager was yelling at staff to the point of using profanity in front of customers. I can say that I will not be going to Café Amsterdam again. Food over priced when you're paying $15 for a sandwich and all that negativity.

Avocado melt- hubby said it was "okay- he liked the sauce". I thought it was bland and boring Reuben- YUM YUM YUM- The bread was dark and yummy- good Reuben- may be the best I have had in Anchorage thus far. Lightly toasted so no issues cutting the roof of your mouth.... props for that!! Amazing and vast beer selection but we didn't partake in beer this trip.

Crappy, cluttered decor that makes it feel like you're dining in a flea market. Food was meh and WAY overpriced. if food was fabulous, the prices would be fine, or if it was 1/3 the price it would be acceptable under the banner of "ya get what you pay for." We had waffles and eggs benedict and finished neither. We DEFINITELY did not get what we paid for and will not be back.

My family and I went to brunch here on a recent Sunday and enjoyed our experience. We didn't have to wait at all and ended up eating the the atrium area. Our server was attentive and our food was very good. I had the moluska eggs benedict (traditional bendict with lox) and while I don't generally order benedicts I thought this was very good and there was a lot of lox. We also ordered an apply pancake for the table and we all enjoyed it. It was very thick and much more like a very fluffy cake than a pancake and the brown sugar cream sauce was very thick. The pancake definitely satisfied my sweet tooth for the day. I would suggest sitting in the atrium as the high ceilings and windows let in a lot of natural light in the morning while the plants and the table umbrellas make it feel more cozy. The main eating area struck me as rather drab in comparison.

Food was mediocre the staff was not pleasant. The waitstaff was being bossed around by a head waitress/manager who verbally abused her staff. They had several empty dirty tables sitting in the restaurant the entire time we were there. The head waitress would get extremely loud while complaining about staff in the open restaurant area. I will not come back.

Blah. Burger was wayyyyy over cooked and I'm hypothesizing that it was from frozen, it had that definite taste to it. My wife got the taco salad and the chicken was disgusting, seriously it's like when someone says "hey this is gross, try it," and then everyone's dinner is ruined. Had to toss it. Wanted to give more stars for the front of house staff and bartender, but the price we paid for inedible food was excessive...soooo disappointed!

Food was ok, but had to stop coming in because of staff/management problems resulting in very poor service. Who wants to hear a server being yelled (yes, yelled) at by manager for no good reason?

Had an hour for lunch, was in the area on business and thought we'd check it out.... 45 minutes after being seated we finally got our food. I had the Reuben. It was described to have some form of special kraut....it was no different then any kraut you'd find. Most notably there was very little kraut on the sandwich :-( there was however an enormous amount of cheese...too much cheese. I chose the oriental slaw for my side....another bad choice, nothing but shredded slaw veggies with vinegar.... Very very spendy I probably should have chosen one of their breakfasts.... The only positive net was the coffee was great and the rye the Reuben was made with was delicious. On a positive note.
