Stopped into Arigato for a small bite before hitting the gym. I only ordered a couple of pair of Sushi - Maguro and Saba. Despite such a dinky order they still served me some complimentary hot tea which hit the spot on a cold Alaskan evening. The place is fairly small and there were no salmon sized carp swimming around in a fish tank but hey, this is Spenard. Got a bonus chunk of cantaloupe for dessert. I like Free Stuff. Will come here again and may bump up to five stars.

Dope as Eff. Tuna was so fresh. It was quick and awesome. I would recommend coming here on a weekly basis. Cheap sushi boats as well.

I have been dinning here for 10 years (both lunch and dinner) and am always amazed that you can eat so well for such a fair price. Add to that outstanding service and you have a real winning combination. So you would think the place would be packed right. Surprisingly not. If you like sushi you owe it to your self to give it a try.

On our quest to the best sushi in Anchorage we made a trip to this forsaken place. Mistake! I noticed how many wonderful reviews they had, higher than many other places, so I guess my expectations were high. We are big time sushi afficionados, connoisseur borderline sushi snobs. Our quest began when we moved to Alaska at the end of October 2013. Alaska, the land of fresh seafood, the land where we could find possibly some of the freshest sushi in America... So Arigato?? Where and how have you gone wrong? Two most important things make or break sushi... Rice and seafood (among the most important) The sushi appeared manufactured, as in too tightly cased. I know it could not have been, I saw a human make it. Next the seafood did not appear fresh.. The conch ( one of my favs) looked slightly brownish...the eel maybe too earthy ( the are bottom feeders I guess) my dinner partner liked it. The wasabi was nice and strong... My cup of tea. The tea was also rather delicious... But let's recall I did not come here for tea!! As far as service goes, the lady was just a jewel! But the sushi still remains a no on my dictionary. In fact I have no idea how on earth they have gotten such high grades in the past! I remain clueless. Ok so yeah it's a cute mom and pop type place... Still the sushi doesn't compete with 90% of what good sushi is out there in Anchorage... NEXT!!!

My family and I have been enjoying this great restaurant since 2005. I don't know why one person is giving them only 1 star. Perhaps, it's because they are new to town and have no clue as to the sushi selections in town! Lol! Whatever it may be....this restaurant is second to none in service and consistent food quality! This is a family operated establishment and I for one, rate on 3 things that will make my outing experience a superb one.... First is the quality of service...the owners take the time to remember their return customers and even remember what I ordered the last time. Second is Ambience... Tranquil, peaceful, and soothing. This establishment aims to please. Sushi snobs belong at the "Dish!" lol! Lastly, quality of food... I grew up in HI and a world traveler and tried the "Best" sushi that's boasted wherever I visit. Granted, you pay for the top grade sushi and the taste is a little more savory. But, Arigato has never boasted itself to be a fine dining establishment! They pride themselves on Service, Ambience, and Quality food! The sushi is mid grade. But, it is savory and consistently delicious every time I order it. So, if your looking for that restaurant to hang out with the other snobs....go elsewhere and leave the true aficionados to dine at this great local restaurant.

This is probably the only restaurant I enjoy reviewing. I have been coming to Arigato for over 10 years. Want to know why? Service. Atmosphere. Food. Everyone a restaurant could possible be rated on. I have probably tried everything on the menu and I am never failed to be amazed. Everything is cooked and prepared to perfection. I would think I am actually in Japan. The owners are amazing kind people and they basically know exactly what I'll order before I speak a word. A warm relaxing environment with faint music in the background makes for a great atmosphere. I could go on but why waste time reading this when you could go eat there. Hurry. You won't be disappointed!

Really good Saki. Sufficient miso and the side salad had a tangy dressing that was delicious. My friend had a spicy octopus salad that was different from anything I'd ever tasted, really good. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and shrimp/veggie tempura. The shrimp was really good, but I think the veggies lacked flavor. The chicken was good and was all dark meat. Only thing that was wierd was halfway through my salad, the lady lays down a pair of 'coordination' chopsticks...you know, the kind with a rubber band so that uncoordinated people have a chance at eating. Thing was, I've used chopsticks for years, and am quite dextrous....maybe I wasn't good enough in her eyes, lol.

I had the Katsu Don for lunch and it was pretty awesome. My wife had the sushi and said it was good as well. The Poki had mayo I'm the sauce which I wasn't a big fan of, but everything was delish!

this is located in a strategic location for some shopping and a night out at the tap root but the food is very bland and mediocre. we went early to beat the Sat night crowd and by the time we got our food there was quite a few table full and still only one waitress who also hosted and had to do the check out. We were not in a hurry but did want to squeeze in a shop at rei and it took so long to roll us after our meal we didn't have time. I had the pork shungaki and GF had tempura platter. These entrees come with the Japanese standard salad and miso soup. My biggest complaint was that my pork wasn't even fried it was like boiled and ill be damned if there was any ginger at all in it. we ordered one sushi roll a spider roll which was so loosely rolled that it instantly fell apart (we are not total sushi amateurs) when picking it up and was very small and only two the two end pieces had the tiniest bits of crab. Just so unsatisfying overall we have no desire or curiosity to return.

Great food selection, great tasting food. I wouldn't call it real authentic Japanese food, but it's close. The staff is friendly and good at what they do. I definitely eat here frequently. Sushi and maki rolls are well prepared, the udons are a hit or miss sometimes.

We got the family dinner C of salmon teriyaki, beef teriyaki, gyoza and tempura ($22/person). I was impressed that the food came out pretty quickly. The gyoza was too oily because it has been somewhat deep fried rather than pan fried. The tempura was pretty good but nothing terribly special. The batter was a little soft and not nearly as good as Sushi-ya over on Dimond. The salmon teriyaki and beef teriyaki sauce tasted different from each other. On the salmon they put a gravy-like sauce that I wasn't a fan of. The salmon didn't seem particularly fresh. The beef teriyaki was excellent. It was sliced beef marinaded in a teriyaki sauce. There wasn't excessive sauce on the beef but the flavor was robust. I would order that again, but none of the other items. Overall, for $22 a person, I just didn't think it was worth it.
